  1. I see the PM has ordered the registration of the poor so assistance can be directed to the right places (source BKK Post). Does this mean he will start paying the dole? Doubt it Maybe to list those that can be exploited easily? I hope not. Political points scoring is my thoughts. Great idea but actions speak louder than words and I will wait without much confidence that anything will be done to help the poor.

  2. Im interested in the Thai style buddhist tattoos that can be done at some temples.

Does anyone know specifically where I can enquire about this. Ive asked people but have not got a knowledgeable answer.

    thanks in advance

I'm presuming what you are after is Sak Yant. You need to find a master tattoist and may or may not be at a temple. They will have previously trained under another master. Usually they will choose the tattoo for you and the first tattoo they did is the start of a relationship that is like becoming a member of their family. Be careful who you choose as not all that do this style are masters. If you do not know about this subject it is worth reading up on. These tattoos are for protection or strength usually. A good master I know is Au at Army Freedom tattoos at Karon Beach Phuket. You can find him on Facebook. He is also a great tattoo artist with tattoo machine I know he trained under a master here in Thailand and does great work

  3. friend of mine want retired at 47yo in Thailand, he asked me if it s possible and what he is going to do all day long in LOS.

so guys, what you do in Thailand? when you are supposed to work hard in farangland and pay tax and wife.

The perfect age for a girl for a man is subtract 7 from age then half so tell him to do 20 year olds

  4. For me I don't like being called a farang but some here like it .it is not a word to call a person a farang I just look on google it was made up to call people from the west farang .

Like back home did not like being called a <deleted> growing up and now the word <deleted> is not use so maybe one day thais could stop using the word .

Get over it. I've been called a pakeha all my life back home. Just a name, I know I'm not a flea of the rat

  5. All what you have replied is true. I have not arrived at a hotel and found no room but have booked through Agoda and been given a not so good room and have both found better prices and more excessive prices when I've extended my stay at different places that id booked with Agoda. I lost my visa card and can't get it replaced until I return where it was issued so for now can't book online. A real hassle for hotels and air travel.

  6. Thanks. Funny thing is I found one in Nee Zealand before I returned to Thailand for about 14000b with international warranty. When it was delivered it was all in Thai language. Presume it was grey market but as I'd never mentioned Thailand to the seller was amused. BTW the Nokia 930 is fantastic once I got my head around the OS and will not be going back to iPhone

  7. Thanks just the sort of info I am after. I want to do the Mae Hong Son loop but as I'm carrying a large camera kit I want something a little more secure than bikes plus my gf is a shocking rider plus di not have to worry about weather though she assures me we are not going to get rain because I am such a lucky person. 5555. If we can drop it off in Chiang Rai even better as we are heading there for Songkran to spend it with her family. If we can drop it in Chiang Rai I will keep it about 4 weeks and explore and photograph Nan province extensively. I've been told the roads are mainly sealed? Is that correct? I'm a location scout for tv commercials when in NZ so spend much of my time on unsealed mountain roads so not worried about my driving but more with others. Thanks again.

  8. Thanks. I have travel insurance which covers $6000 (I think) excess for rental vehicles but of course that is only if my license is valid here. I know most countries I visit it is valid for up to 12 months but never checked thoroughly in Thailand but never had a problem renting with it.

  10. Where can I rent a car cheap in Chiang Mai? Doesn't need to be nee just reliable. If I can drop it off in Chiang Rai even better. Also I've just always driven on my New Zealand license in Thailand. Never been a problem but is it allowed.

  11. Yes I know about the cane getting burnt off. A Thai friend whose rubber plantation borders a sugarcane field just got burnt to the ground. I'm going to Myanmar first then to spend time a little out of Chiang Rai near Laos border with gf's fmaily for Songkran. I work in the movie industry when not in Thailand where we make smoke for special effects so I guess I will try and work with it. We will be up in the hills so might not be so bad and think around Chiang Maiis worse. As for haze from high humidity I will just have to live with that. More worried about how hard the humidity is on my gear. Thanks for the reply. Are you up that way and do you do photography? Be great to meet someone up there who shoots.

  12. I'm on a New Zealand passport and my gf on a Thai one. Do we need visas before we arrive at the Myanmar border or can we get them when we arrive. What is the best way into the country? We are in BKK but don't mind catching train north or south. Will fly if need be but being a photographer I prefer slower means of travel. We want to get to Mandalay and do the multi day river cruise then we after Myanmar head to see family in Chiang Rai so advice getting there appreciated also.

  13. Bit of a shock finding out I boom boomed the brothers wife 6 months before I met my partner took my wife to New Zealand and the jealous sisterinlaw phoned her to tell all. I said I had never and showed her a photo of the only gurl id been with. Guess what. I had no idea and never thought this gurl would be seen again Was a bit of a shock. Very careful with rest of the family now.
