  1.

I'm perfectly aware of the "many" issues that start wars.

Anyone that uses the bible as a pretext now should be ashamed of themselves.

So pretty girl or oil reserves is an honorable reason?

By the way, do you know what Arabs scream when they kill someone, going to kill someone, want to kill someone or celebrate the death of someone?

Yes I do,  so they are equally at fault.

Does that make you feel better?

Now, the point is, these Europeans invaded the country under a false pretence.

Anyone using biblical justification for this invasion is a clown.

  2.

These people who have no territorial claim.

Beyond a fairy story written three thousand years ago,

That and the fact that they have been living there for more than 3,700 years, that the international community granted political sovereignty in Palestine to the Jewish people and that the Jewish people settled and developed the land - as well as winning 4 or 5 wars against overwhelming odds.

    3,700 years ago? 4 'OR' 5 wars?
And, Jesus was a carpenter, or at least that's what I'm told. Alibaba and the 30 thieves is a good read too.

It's fantastical that people in this day and age are still using the bible as justification for land grabs and war.

  3.

    The usual dribble about Palestinians.

Forged on the rock of certitude.

That they had no territorial rights in the first place.

    It's a terrible delusion.

That five million Europeans thought they could descend like locusts.

And evict the indigenous population, at the point of a gun.

And not be content with the land they first had handed to them.

    They grabbed more, ever more.

These people who have no territorial claim.

Beyond a fairy story written three thousand years ago,

    Nice story.

Only in 1947, the population (both Arab and Jewish) amounted to about 2 millions (perhaps a bit more).

Them said "locusts" (nice hate imagery there) did not reach the 5 million mark for quite some time after that.

The ones who were not satisfied with the original UN resolution were the Arabs, who started the war and were defeated.

    That's marvelous -

You have just skewed the reality of the massive pre and post war influx of  white Europeans into the country.

It's estimated that European settlement numbered 1 million in the late 30's alone.

But you pick out the year of 1947 for comparison? Why?

To win an argument? Where the vast majority of European settlers had been in the country ten years or less?

So much there is wrong but to start ...

Arabs immediately waged war upon the U.N. action to create Israel ... you expected the Jews to just cave?

Jews of Israel are VERY diverse origin.

    Western Europe

    Eastern Europe

    Latin America

    North America

THE MIDDLE EAST and North Africa! (many were expelled from there forcefully)

    Africa (ETHIOPIA)

    Yes, even some from China

The vast majority of the original settlers were European,

To argue otherwise is to lie to oneself.

Are you amazed that the Arabs objected?

To the imposition of white foreign settlers?

    Due to a fairy tale?

  6. I'm only suggesting the Mae Hong Son flight via Kan Airways as it will reduce the time/risk on the road.

This I really don't get, Tak to Mae Hong Son is like 500km in small roads, near Myanmat border. Many checkpoints. Tak to Chiang Mai is big highway, never seen buses stopped for passport checking and it is just over 250km.

If he's closer to CM then of course go direct there - also there wouldn't be any harm in flying to DM with Nok Air and exiting there.

ps - I did say I wasn't sure of the geography - we have only been given a province by the OP, not a town. It's possible he's betwixt and between

  7. There are several international flights a day from CNX - several different carriers. I'm only suggesting the Mae Hong Son flight via Kan Airways as it will reduce the time/risk on the road. Check-in at the international desks- go upstairs, pay your fine at immigration, and you're gone.

You'll probably be familiar with AirAsia and the other well known carriers - a couple of lesser known carriers are Air Bagan that can take you to Yangon - and Lao Airlines which takes you direct to Luang Prabang.

I'm not up to speed with the visa situation in Yangon, if you go to LP, you can either take a bus down to Vientiane or fly down again with Lao Airlines.

Obviously you could fly to KL and connect to Penang - I suppose whatever happens you would be (or your friend would be) looking to first of all get a flight directly out of the country - and to secondly get to the most benign embassy or consulate.

AirAsia also flies direct to Hong Kong - I don't know what the visa situ is there?

  8. Can you clarify exactly where Tak is please.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tak_Province

Thanks for that - I have been in the vicinity a few times but not to Tak itself - not being 100% up on the geography I suggest he gets to Mae Hong Son, and takes a Kan Airways flight to Chiang Mai - then takes an international flight with AA to KL. He'll be able to pay the fine there and be out the country quicly, while minimizing the risk of being caught in transit at a checkpoint.

When I was in Mae Sot, Mae Hong Son area the checkpoints tended to wave vehicles through that had farangs in them - the only time I have ever been checked was on a VIP bus on the road to Mae Sai - and that was the third check that day. The first two the police and army spoke to every Asian on the bus and left the foreigners alone.

So - quickest way out - Kan Airways - MHS, CNX and then exit the country.

KL to Penang is easy - KL to Vientiane is easy by flight too - the guy can pick which consulate is best and get on with it.

  9. People on a Non O visa will be able to go,enter freely without any hindrance whatsoever. Why because if you are married they cannot refuse you to visit family..... by law this is.

It's about time they are cracking down on border runners with just a single tourist visa. Who knows, maybe we will see better teachers. clap2.gif

Bit naive and insensitive, not to mention very smug was your last paragragh. If this crackdown really does get enforced like they are saying it is not just the wrong un's and people working here illegally tha it will affect. It will/could also affect decent honest people like offshore workers who visit here say every 2 or 3 months for holiday or family reasons. This could go way beyond affecting just the border runners/cheap charlies., etc.

I doubt it will affect oil workers or anyother kind of workers who are outside the country(making their money) for more than 180 days a year as they are not tax liable. I dont think they have any problem with these guys.

They'll have a problem with them trying to access Thailand six times a year on visa-exempt.

There's going to be a lot of explaining to do at the airport for a lot of these guys.

  10. I have ideal reply for this.

As a young guy (23) I moved to Thailand.

For young educated people the opportunities are endless.

Many older people especially whose who don't live in the uk/eu have not realised the jobs market for graduates has completely failed to epic proportions.

I was offered a job paying three times as much as back in the UK.

For young people unemployment is like 25% or something and graduates who do have jobs are in menial work.

I can't begin to explain how dire the situation is most of my friends after graduation (guys with masters degrees) earn less the a £1000 a month doing whatever they can. It's a complete waste of potential.

They will new be able to afford a house or a nice car.

If your educated in Thailand then it's like the job market in the Uk was 50 years ago (or so I have heard) because of the growth In Asia this will play out massively over the next few decades.

Sadly expect to see an influx of graduates coming to Asia.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

45% of graduates in the UK won't earn enough money per annum to repay their student loans.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-26688018

They fell for the western lie - "Get a degree, you'll be set for life."

Someone forgot to tell them that the law of supply and demand applies.

There's people getting degrees today that would be better off driving taxis.

I don't blame youngsters for going out and having a go - I totally agree with your post.

    .................................................................

Setting that to the side, I know plenty of "digital nomads" in Thailand that are making great money.

  11. Sometime ago that Russia lady was in the news here on Thaivisa. She was refused entry at the Phuket airport and chose to fly to Kuala Lumpur. I am sure immigration will let you book your flight out to anywhere you want, of course at your expense.

In the case of the Russian lady, she had also flown in from KL - maybe she had no choice but to return there?

    @Lazygourmet - very interesting.

  12. »Has anyone dealt with such an issue before?«
Reading OP and answers with great interest. I have a similar experience with a long time friend, and about same level of debt. A friend-to-friend loan – not business – so he could start up a restaurant here in Thailand, offered to pay me same interest as I loosed from my deposit; didn’t work that well for him and he perhaps didn’t care enough for it (worked to little, relaxed too much); however paid back as agreed for a while; then less, but still paid some now-and-then; then had to close and give up the restaurant, saying that it would be cheaper for him to do so and just pay my money back; after that money flow stopped completely, now for several years – even he has job and at least some income, just like saying »I won’t pay«. whistling.gif
Court is not really a possibility, because if there is no values or property to take, then a court case will only be additional loos of fees and expenses for lawyer…
One problem is “friend”, so cannot go hard or sell debt, and if the is no money or values, then what...?
Another problem is the disappointment, the feelings, because the friend knew very well that I had saved the money for my living expenses later and therefore need them back – yes, I can survive, but about 900k balance plus 7-8 years interest loss is also some kind of money… sad.png
Okay, he has promised, that if he one day becomes rich, he will think of me…! blink.png
Understand OP’s frustration very well, but what can one do…?
Write off the loss and move on…?

Ask him to give you ten thousand baht for your birthday and Christmas every year. If he won't do that, he's no friend of yours.

  13. This thread has got me thinking - how to tax a dead man.

I was in Laos last July when one of my best pals died.

A guy raised an invoice for £22,000 against him.

Went to the funeral, and presented the invoice to widow and asked -

"How much equity is in your house?"

There was no bill - it was a scam.

    How low can you go?

Someone else fixed it - honestly, it's unbelievable what some people will do.

  14. In the UK, me

Offer it up for sale at 50% and see if you get any offers. If you fon't - I know a man.

Offer it first because the man I know I will split the next time I see him.

and if this man doesnt come thru. I know another man...........................lol.

Grist to the mill sir - last one my pals did was 25 pence in the £ - they collected £8000 for an hours work.

Rarely does it come to violence - just the visit is enough

Guys like the OP's pal and that French guy rubber people for a living. My pals earn bouncing the rubber men. They deserve it - and it makes them think twice.

I totally forgot one of our tax men was in Oz - I'll try to get a hold of him. And this is not gangsterism - I am not a gangster in any way, shape, or form, snd never will be.

This is how you need to deal with the con men that set up criminal shell companies and rip people off

Put it this way - if my guys returned 50% of the money the boiler room boys collected you'd be cheering from the rooftops. It's just a sub-economy with its own rules.
