Indeed it is April Fools Day, however it is a completely plausible story for Thailand! So if it is a joke, it does not really fit the realm of the "unbelievable" which is the actual point to an April Fools joke. You will need to do better TV.
this was started way ahead of April 1st and remember VAT in UK started on 1st April is that still a Joke ??

Global warming is no joke what so ever
just think how cold we would be without it

after living in Thailand for ten years I have seen a lot of things and one thing is obvious to me and that is the do gooders that come over to site Thailand as a den of perversion are just after BIG HEADLINES as they dont even scratch the surface with their investigations. Yes non Thai are involved in the sex trade but to such a small degree you would be truly amused, under age is built into the culture here and near the boarders there is a thriving industry going on controlled by people that one would not want to compromise if you want to stay healthy and live long.
In my humble opinion the do gooders would be better placed in their own countries sorting out the problems there in UK there are many just go to any large city and it is in your face in every telephone box, every public toilet and city street corner, some thing like people in glass houses come to mind.
I have seen the raids take place and the very next week it is business as usual,

99BigLad99, thank you for the photo. I am going to add it to the marker on Google Maps and attribute it to you.
sorry for posting in the wrong area but I never associated Phitsanokul office with Phetchabun ~ "somnomnahar"
Just hope that they do put up a few more signs soon about this place and by the way if you get to Makro from the town direction you have passed the office. Soi 36 is the corner to remember
-
Ok so I did my married visa last month and was told to pick it up today but when we get there its gone ~ the office that is ~ no more floating office
However my wife got directions from next door to the old office the tourist info place and the new office is very close to Makro about five Km away.
the address from what I can gather is
887/4 Brommatrai Lokkanat Road
it is one the corner of soi 36 and Brommatrai Lokkanat Road
It moved there last Monday and as yet has no signs what so ever up to say what the place is I suppose that they will come later
Parking is on the road side but e sure to face the same way as the traffic or get a ticket I did take a photo for what use it is by the way may help you recognise the shop house building
Oh forgot to mention seems to be the same decent staff and the awkward miserable sod has not returned as yet

If the Thais are going to get this petty, I would like to bring back a radar/speed camera detector. Anyone know what system these cameras are using to determine your speed and whether a radar detector from the USA or some other country will work here?
from what I have gathered it is a lazer beam detector
-
thanks for that info I know now then to travell at speed in the left hand lanes
-
I have since found out if you dont pay the fine when the time comes to tax the car that is when they catch up with you by putting a notice on the tax and you have to pay a higher fine then
plus regard to the speed it was on a 90kmh road and the 120 figure relates to the camera is my guess so in fact 31km over the speed limit it would be

for the last 5 years since I have been on either a married or retirement visa the immigration has kept the original letter from the consulate or embassy, each time I have asked if I could keep the letter for the following year and each time told "no" and i have had to obtain visas from four different immigration offices due to reorganisation
-
just for peace of mind visas in Thailand are easy if you stay within the rules for six years I was on a visitors visa then a year on a retirement visa and now on a married visa and never has it been a problem ~ if you are over 50 the retirement visa is so easy so long as you can produce the documents required.

more Mail reporters with nothing else to report what a shame they dont report on the floods up North where people are dieing in the recent floods and elephants are used to help those stranded where cars and trucks cant get through

really accurate wonder how he went to Pattaya from Bangkok as he quote "Pattaya is hours away" maybe got ripped off by a taxi driver also going via Cambodia ?

In the past no matter what currency or country when the government of the day let the currency get too strong against its neighbours there comes a time when a massive fall takes place ~ it is just a matter of time and waiting now I think

Thats it after seeing Monty's pictures I want to join the red shirts!!!!!
whatever turns you on
-
Well said. And the parallels with 1930s Germany also correct.
still a sit and wait see what happens as falang cant do a dam thing about it
-
not a good time to be travelling then
-
I am sure most posters dont realise the history details kept on servers could be quite damming

I have just got home upcountry from Pattaya drove the ring road and fuc_k was it busy with private cars ~ no police checks and as i had to drop a mate at the airport on the way no extra police to be seen either so all looks perfectly normal ~ no sign of any red or yellow shirts about

I got my yellow book last month.
It took my over 3 months because the guy dealing with it in my amphur had never done it before. He had a book in front of him and was taking bits that were needed but not all at one time.
I cost me a fair amount of money because I got my wife to tell her exactly what he wanted from me.
---etc etc -
He then smiled and asked me for 25 baht for the yellow book and we left.
I hope never to see him again.
I also got a yellow book but with a lot less hassle than you have had it also cost 20thb but that was for the plastic cover that they put it in we applied on a Friday and told to come back on the following Monday and all was done within an hour no hassle - now I did take my computer with me and a small portable printer and did print out some extra copies of photos that he wanted - this was about four years ago now

Just got back from Pitsanaluk still no visa although the boss man said to go back today he now says they are too busy today and we should go next week and get there at 7:30 as the visa takes 3 hours to do - now I think he is taking the piss
The extension will indeed take a long time, as the wife has to be interviewed etc. An extension based on marriage does take some time, not to mention that you will have to come back after 30 days to get the final approval.
yep all the documents were in order and the second to the Obator of our village was with us so we had no need to pay Immigration 5k thb to come to our village this he agreed with my wife on a previous visit. Wife was told she had to go to local Ampner to get some form about if we were married to any others this turned out to already be in the pack, the marriage contract.
But what got me more than anything was the boss's attitude so off hand and obviously at 10:30am with NO customers they were too busy to deal with the application at that time. We were told that if we wanted to wait till later in the afternoon they may have time today but as my visa still had not run out it would be better to come back at 7:30 one morning next week. Return is what we will do as today as I had a coffin on the back of the truck for my wifes accidentially killed father in a hunting accident yesterday which my wife pointed out to the boss man I think he could have been a bit more sympathetic, than offering go and sort the body out and come back this afternoon and we might be able to do some thing
The guy in question is the tall guy obviously the boss of the office by the way he speaks to the others in there who dont seem to think too much to him either by their comments to my wife.
Oh and with the offer of paying 5k trhb for him to visit our village I wonder if that would mean that the visa would be done easier ????

Just to say that the photo is way out of date now they have really gone to town on the comfort side of things aircon and tinted big glass doors and windows facing the road.
Also worth mentioning maybe is the service as soon as you go in get a numbered ticket ~ left hand side on the table ~ nobody tells you to but that is the way they call you to the counter
The service is the best and most friendly I have ever come across at any immigration office ~ there is an older lady in charge now and she is very pleasant she used to be at Nan I think. The tall bald headed ares hole that was at the previous office has been recalled to bangers from what I could gather bloody good riddance too. but the place is a pleasure to visit now.
