  1. I hear from some insiders that since Cornick's "resignation" the Dubai shareholders have pumped in more money to ensure completion of Northpoint and The River.

RAIMON ANNOUNCES BONUS ISSUE TO SHAREHOLDERS Appoints New CEO

    Mar 03, 2009

BANGKOK; 3rd March, 2009 – Raimon Land PLC (RAIMON) today announced the resignation of its Executive Director and CEO Nigel Cornick effective 1st March, 2009. Mr. Cornick has also resigned from the Board of Directors of Raimon Land and its associated companies.

Raimon Land simultaneously announced the appointment of Hubert Viriot, one of its current Directors, as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Viriot is also an executive at IFA Hotels & Resorts, a major shareholder of Raimon Land.

The shareholders are committed to the ongoing success of Raimon Land, and plans are to inject further capital to assist in the current and future operational requirements of the company.

Chairman of the Board of Directors at Raimon Land, Mr. Sompoch Intranukul, said: "I would like to thank Mr. Cornick, on behalf of our Board of Directors, for his contributions in building Raimon Land into the premier real estate developer in Thailand, and congratulate Mr. Viriot on his appointment as the new CEO. We look forward to continuing the execution of the Company's strategy moving forward."”

The Directors today also announced a stock (bonus issue) and cash dividend equal to Baht 278.98 million to its shareholders.

Under the proposal, each Raimon shareholder will receive 0.0837 new shares and Baht 0.0093 in cash for each share held at the record date. The cash component of the dividend will be used to cover withholding tax payable by the shareholders on the bonus issue.

Shareholders on the company’s register on the record date, proposed to be 17th March, 2009, will be eligible for the bonus issue shares and dividend.

The board also approved that the auditor undertakes the offset of the share discount with retained earnings totalling Baht 208.58 million.

  3. At the risk of being attacked yet again by the resident TV W*nkers....

The tower wont tell you where to divert to, they will inform you that the airport is closed due weather - its your choice where to go and when ie to hold or not etc.

Alternate Fuel is an amount of fuel say 5.0 tonnes or whatever is required - in your example to divert from Phuket - Bangkok. (if that was the designated diversion airport)

Reserve Fuel is an additional amount of usually 30 mins but sometimes more to Hold for 30 mins at 1500ft (Say 2.0 Tonnes) in addition to the above alternate fuel.

If the trip fuel from Bangkok to phuket is 4.0 tonnes then the contingency fuel would be 0.2kgs (5% of the trip).

    SO

The additional fuel above that needed to fly from Bangkok to Phuket is 5+2+0.2 (Alternate Fuel + Reserve Fuel + Contingency) = 7.2 tonnes. A lot more than 30 mins.

This is of course simplified. TG are only talking about reducing the contingency part of the additional fuel.

    Thanks for that - :o

  4. Just read in the Bangkok post ( on-line) that Thai are seeking to halve the fuel reserves they carry on its aircraft as part of its " intensified efforts to reduce costs in the light of high oil prices"

DCA deputy Director Wuthichai Singhamanee said " this is fuel that is not used and there is nothing to be worried about" :o

Using a flight from Bangkok to London as an example, a Thai executive pointed out that halving the contingency reserve would shed about two tonnes from the 120 tonnes of jet fuel a Boeing 747-400 would use.

My quesion for the experts is if this is not a problem halving the 'extra' fuel then why did they carry twice as much extra fuel in the first place?

Yes things are moving along now - they are giving an estimated completion date of mid 2011 for this complex - will have to wait and see how near they get to this. Also they are stating that both towers and associated shops etc are planned to be completed together so that tenants should not expect any noise when they are handed their units

    :o

I managed to get a few shots of The River development - I have known about this project since 2004/5. However I still cannot really see much progress, and there seemed to be little activity. I assume things are moving on?

As promised here are a few pictures from my recent stay.

  6. "where GBP is used to purchase Thai Baht by anyone living in Gatwick." :D

TBWG - always send sterling and exchange on-shore for the best rate

    Johnb

    Hi

Rather lost track of what has gone on under new govt. Is there still a big differential in the offshore onshore rate or has it been scrapped?

    TBWG :o

There is no longer an Offshore/Onshore Rate mechanism and the two rates have merged. In place of the latter is a 16% surcharge on British Pounds where GBP is used to purchase Thai Baht by anyone living in Gatwick. :D

Hi Chiang Mai thanks for prompt response :D

I want to transfer money to account in LOS are you saying that if I send a transfer in either Baht or £ I get hit for 16% surcharge!!!?

  7. Bangkok-London-Bangkok: Charges 230USD EXTRA for aviation fuel increases... Hmmmm... Say 400 Passengers on a 747-400 on average: 400x230USD = 92,000 USD. The distance Bangkok to London and back to Bangkok is approx. 12,000 Miles. So thats an exta of 7.67 USD per Mile! Does anybody have an idea of how much fuel a 747-400 needs per Mile? And how much is a liter of aviation fuel. Just wondering :o

If I'm reading it correctly its $230 per sector i.e. $460 for the round trip

  8. Hi

Anybody know what happens when youve got an open return ticket - will they charge you at the airport or is the surcharge on 'new' tickets

    Thanks

    JohnB

When I recently returned (May 18th) from London Heathrow on a 6 months open ticket, Eva Air requested £40 from me for additional fuel charges. When i challenged the extra charge they suddenly dropped their request.

I spoke to other passengers on the aircraft who were returning within 4 weeks of the original booking and it appeared that none had been requested to pay any additional fuel costs.

Like myself you should be ok but stand your ground if/when requested.

    Richard

    Thats interesting - thanks Richard

  9. Since I'm not British, I'm not familiar with the EXACT results and meaning if an AIM noted company had to 'file for Administration'.

I understand that it is more or less going into bankruptcy but what exactly is the role of the -to be appointed- Aministrators and how far does their power go ?

Are the -major- shareholders now (completely) powerless ?

What is the difference between 'File for Administration' and: file for 'Chapter 11' like in the US, which enables companies to emerge from Chapter 11 after restructuring ?

    Is it the same ?

    LaoPo

    LaoPo

My understanding is that in the UK ' file for administration' the firm of accountants appointed by the Company are responsible to look after the creditors by either trying to sell the business or if this is not possible by selling the assets. Usually the accounts firm - goverment ( VAT & Tax) and employees ( redundancy) get their cut first whatever is left goes to the remaining creditors ' so much in the £ owed. Shareholders have no rights apart from statutary employments rights.

In the States Chapter 11 freezes the amount owed to creditors. This is a legal entity controlled by law and the Business has to put forward a plan as to how they can pay off the existing debt but are allowed to carry on trading:

    Hope this helps

  10. Here are my opinions from some one who actually has Thai Elite Membership.

I have not been able to fault the Thai Elite card.

The Elite card will pay for itself in 7-8 years of usage at 1MB.

The 1.5m has reduced the value… but the costs can still be recovered in 12 years.

For some one not working in Thailand, not wishing to marry for an O visa, and with 30 or so years to go to retirement age there is no other option.

The service is excellent: 5 year renewable visa, Golf, massage, Airport expedition for my frequent trips.

Only one risk exists for me and that’s the risk of the Thai Elite service folding. There are promises of compensation in this case, although I’m not holding my breath.

IF the program lasts and I’ve heard no indications beyond speculation in Thai Visa that it wont, then at 1MB, 1.5MB, life time or 30 years, people will recover their outlay and after an initial period save money.

For the record: the Op is incorrect. The 5 year SE (special entry) visa (renewable every 5 years) remains, it’s effectively the same as a 5 year tourist visa would be, and people still have to report every 90 days.

I have friends who do not need the visa (they are work permitted or Married), but they also joined Thai elite because of the potential cost savings is provides. At 1MB it was a bargain when a little foresight was used.

For those with shorter vision of course 1MB is expensive, but look a little further (10 years) and we will save money.

I’d still be interested to hear from any Thai Elite members first hand who are not happy with service or regret buying it. I believe only that would give an unbiased opinion as they have been in the position to purchase membership in the first place.

For those who can’t afford it, that’s your lot, but knocking someone else because they can is a little narrow minded. You may not yourself be thinking from the same perspective. If I wasn’t as fortunate, I’d think it was too expensive also, but then again, a lot of people think fancy sports cars and 5 star hotels, business class flights are too expensive when all you need to do is drive from A to B or spend a night sleeping, or sit on a plane for 12 hours.

I’m not defending the logic of the price rise from 1MB to 1.5MB, I can’t understand this other than the fact that the Thai Elite management have realised that at 1MB is too much of a bargain. But, they still need to attract more members and a price hike does not seem a good way to do this. Better, accurate information and marketing would be a more logical way to move forwards IMHO. It would also put a stop to some of the inaccurate hearsay that circulates on forums like this.

    Richard

Am I correct that you can also get two for one flight tickets with TG?

    Johnb

Yep – but not with Economy only with full fare Business or First class flights.

The full fare is expensive and not worth it IMO as it works out at a similar cost as 2 business class tickets with Etihad (For example) who have flat beds.

    Thanks Richard

  12. Hi

I've just been 'told' that rather than going to Chaing Mai my tgf wants to go on a 4 - 5 days holiday to Malaysia in July. I've never visited but dont really want to stay in KL.

Can anyone please advise where is best to visit - fairly busy with ' beach and shopping' etc

    Thanks in advance

  13. Anybody know where this terminates in Bangkok i.e. does it join into the existing system?

    JohnB

It terminates near D'Ma Pavillion Hotel & Bangkok Hotel. If you don't know where those are, it's a stone's throw from the old Makkassan Rail Station. Look up Makkassan on any Bangkok Map. About 2-3 kilometers directly north of the Chitlom stop on the BTS.

    Thank you Toptuan

  14. I feel really sorry for you, and wish you feel better quite soon.......

One point caught my attention......you talk about cramps in the calf.......I suffer same things quite often, either during day or night, without warning.....Is it a symptom of Diabete ?

    Thanks

I'm not sure _ was hoping someone might know. I used to get leg cramps sometimes when I drank too much, but I haven't touched alcohol for 8 months. It's too much coincidence that I got them after a massive hypo.

    Hi John,

    Thanks for your concern

I do blood test several times a day and have up to date, downloaded records of my averages etc. As I said I was at the specialist last week and all was fine.

Maybe it was just a one off and I need to be more careful. I'm just worried about permanent damage - maybe to my brain? :o

    Mobi

Thanks - I hope as you said its just a one off especially as youve just seen the specialist

    All the best
