  1. Hi. All car rentals seem to be fully booked during the Christmas period, so I think just to buy a car, have the ownership transferred to my wife, and leave it with the family. Since I am Dutch and do not have a residency in Thailand. Car will be bought in Bangkok where my wife is still registered in the house book of her family. the car will be in the 100,000 till 200,000 price range so a type 3+ insurance seems sufficient I think.

    Questions

    - if the seller (car dealership) does not want to join the trip to the land transport office, how many days do you have for the transfer?

    - Will the seller request a guarantee the name transfer will be done?

    - next to the cptl insurence which insurance company is recommended for a type 3+ insurance?

    - is it possible to get a car insurance within 1 day?

So this will be called the QOA Visa, or Quarantine on Arrival before enjoying our Covid free vacation.  Not sure anyone can get afford 6 weeks off from work let alone actually obtaining the time off all in a row, in the real normal world.

Every 2 years i get 3 or 4 weeks vacation in december or a 2 or 3 weeks vacation in januari. Usually i spend those 6/7 weeks in Thailand. Next year december i plan to travel again.

I know a woman who runs an underground lottery.  Twice a day.  Guess the last two numbers at which the SET closes at lunch and at close. Twenty baht a guess. She has so many regulars I wonder where they get the money.

This is up country not in any town.

Well my wife paid her mothers gambling debt of about 70,000 baht. So there comes the money from.

  4. Hi

We will arrive 6 december at BKK and I want to rent a car to drive to Ranong, returning at 16 december to Bangkok. Usually I rent a car at Hertz or Budget but I am wondering if there are cheaper options. Hertz is about 1200 Baht a day for a Honda Civic not including the SDCW. We are travelling with a kid so 2 seaters are out.

  5. The smaller resorts usually get the European and Russian tourists. So those will be affected. 2% is a small fraction and probably smaller as the error margin (people using bkk as a hub to other countries).

Americans tend to stay at expensive places because they only have a short vacation and want to have it perfect.

Pattaya is a mostly a place where very naive first timers go or experienced bar hangers. The last group is probably switching from a 1 time a year to a 1 every 2 year schedule or seeking cheaper alternatives.

I do not expect to see halve empty resorts when I will be there in December/January. Although I am a bit surprised I can still book popular places at this moment which often were sold out previous years.

Never been to Larn, never will go either, but I thought it's always been for a day out tour only, no hotels/bungalows to stay over night?

There are about 3 hotels there and a few home stay places. After 5 pm it is really quiet. a few places to have dinner but no bars or other night live. Beaches are really nice but are really over crowded with people during the day.

  7. Well you should have ask for money instead of offering to pay 10,000 baht. Now you have admitted quilt. You will have to pay the rental company for the scooter damage and also for the days it will be in the repair shop while it could have been rented out.

About the passport, just ask the embassy how they are going to solve that. I don't think waiting for a court case is a reason for a visa extension.
