There Are SOME long tail boat tours from Tonsai that just go to Maya, but generally speaking it is just one stop on a longer tour. It is undeniably the main attraction though, and is the highlighted feature on all the posters outside the tour agencies. So the question is, will they bother to update the posters and leaflets or will they continue to take money off tourists who don’t know about the closure ?

They don't have to show their ID cards which by law they need to have on their person anyway. So genius.
Read it again.....they will not have to show PAPER COPIES.

According the calcultation that more than 3000 tourist a day visits this beach, that would be around or over 3,2% of Thailands total yearly tourism. Sorry but I do find that very hard to believe.
That 3000/day would be in peak season so you should not extrapolate that to a comparison with total yearly tourist numbers. 2 years ago I visited in peak season and counted 26 speedboats lined up along the beach. As they can carry up to 60 or 70 passengers and there are two peak periods a day, plus the long tails (about 12 carrying about 10/12 people) plus the boats that come early morning or late afternoon to “avoid” the crowds, 3000 a day or more is very believable in high season.

At around $2500 (AU) it is about even, although you still get a better exchange rate with transferwise. I'd guess that at around 3500 $AU the bank would start to be best overall. Transferwise will give you a rebate on your first transfer, so that might even be free depending on how much you are sending.
For small amounts like $3500 can't you just do a withdrawal using a card that doesn't charge commission? The rate you'd get would be better
You don't know the Australian banking
cartel / mafiasystem !!!! You would have to pay an overseas transaction fee there, a foreign transaction fee here and it's not going to be a better FX rate than the TT rate they use for an electronic transfer to my thai account. But of course, if you think an 80,000 baht withdrawal is small then you probably do not need to worry about these little things -

No UK bank charges & the amount that you receive in your Thai account, will be greater than the Pound/Bhat Thai bank exchange rate. I have been using TransferWise for about a year & believe me I’m quids in.
So no charges with transferwise?

I don't see how having a faster internet will help to connect to those faraway servers than Singapore, after all my faster speed is only from/to my ISP server/hub, my subscription doesn't give me more speed if the ISP server has bandwidth issue to connect to those faraway servers... !?
If you are with 3BB, they do have an option which they don't advertise, and their kiosk staff seem to have never heard of, which gives you a better/faster/bigger bandwidth connection to international servers. It costs you more of course, 960฿ compared to 590 (?) for their normal deal, you would have to ring their call centre to sign up probably. Of course, if it is the old copper wire to your house, dangling off bamboo poles that is slowing you down, it won't help you ....

At Rimping, the checkout lady asked if I wanted to put everything in my backpack, without me having to ask, so they are getting the idea, but apparently only farangs doing so.
Given mankind's attempts to destroy the planets ecosystem with over exploitation and pollution, humans may be following the dinosaurs into extinction, even without a meteor strike.
I'm the farang that takes his own bag to the 7/11, most of the staff are 'trained" to use it without being told but there is always a newbie on the staff, like yesterday when I placed my bag on the counter, emptied the basket to make it easier for him, and then turned away for 5 seconds to put the basket back on the pile. Turn back and he had started putting my shopping into a plastic bag !
Mao ao tung plastic, mii tung ....pointing to my cloth bag.
Huh ?? ...total confusion on his face.
OK, so the staff at 7/11 are not exactly rocket scientists or brain surgeons, but really ??
One of the other girls came over and explained to him, probably said something like 'crazy white guy don't like our bags". I've given up all hope of Thais wanting to save the planet by avoiding excessive plastic use, so I just tell them the cloth bag is much more comfortable to carry. They can understand that.

Its just amazing coincidence that at the time the Govt are in Buriram trying to woo the Bhumjumthai party, that it just so happens that this is the exact day out of 50,000 that they could of investigated them for land encroachment, they decide today is the day.
For someone allegedly 'raised on BS, can smell it a mile away' you must have a blocked nose.
Except that if you read the OP, the charges were first filed way back in February, complaints and investigations before that, long before the Buriram trip.

In Europe it seems yes.
In Australia we just call them reverse cycle air conditioners, but I’ve never seen one here in Thailand.

Oh really? Have a look at the trash laying around your country and on the beaches! And numerous comments on social media.
Where have you been?
If you read the original in full, “he” is a prominent and long term marine environmentalist and has been campaigning about it for a long time, the “ we” is referring to the general Thai population.

Better form yet another committee and delay the cards for another year or so ......

farang is not a polite word.
That is teached to you when you go to school and learn Thai.
And the school in bangkok or phuket or chaing mai all teach the same farang is not a polite word
Many companies also have a policy about this and other words like this.
Farang is just not a polite word.
Originating from frenchman.
Somebody should tell Duke Language School that then, as they teach the use of it in their textbooks ! Mind you, they described an Argentinian as “farang” which is stretching it a bit perhaps ?
-
I once asked my Thai language teacher why Thais say Khon dam (black people) or khon Asian, khon Thai, etc, but not khon farang. She got a bit upset at me for even asking, certainly could not explain why. If they were to say khon farang/ farang people I would not consider it derogatory but omitting “khon” does sort of imply they do not consider us as people.

please explain because I don't understand what you are saying
I understand, but also think it would be easier to stand there, watch the basket go into the x-ray machine, walk through the scanner and watch your stuff come out the other side .....does n't everybody do that ? The staff cannot touch your stuff while it is inside the scanner so as long as you see it going in and coming out, no problems.

You don't say exactly what you are growing, but presumably you know that different plants have different water requirements. Shallow rooted vegies would need more frequent watering than fruit trees for instance. So it's probable that you will need to water in sections, one sprinkler won't cut it. work out how many sprinklers you need for each section, litres/minute for each one, total it up for each section and work out the pump from the section with the highest water flow.
(3) The best time for watering is early morning or late afternoon/early evening, when the sun is low.....not the best time for a solar powered pump.
(4) If you go for drip irrigation perhaps have a tank filled by the pump, then use gravity feed ...you would n't need to have the tank all that high for drip irrigation.

Hi. Is there somewhere more news or precisions on these new rules ?
There is in my condo a small group of "5+ units owners" who don't know too much what they must do...
Their main first concern is to know who is concerned. It was first said in medias that the new law would apply only to new rental contracts, but now "the rumour" is that the law must apply to all their tenants from May 1st, requiring a contract amendment...
If anyone has more info... Thanks
The paper we cannot link to says all existing leases must be amended if they do not comply, otherwise the owners face the possibility of a big fine or even jail.
Yeah, right, we all know how unlikely that is ....

I just had a quick look at the BKK Bank website, and the new Unionpay cards do not seem to be paywave compatible ? Did n’t the banks make a big thing not so long ago about the speed and convenience of paywave ? Now BKK Bank is going backwards.....
I also read a bit about how to use the unionpay cards....apparently the ATM will tell you to select the chip application, you have a choice of TBA or Unionpay. Guess which one you have to select ? No, not Unionpay but TBA (Thai banks association?). Very logical, NOT.

Even the UnionPay debit cards can be used at some atms in Oz.
With their 6 digit PINs ?....Aus ATMs used to only accept 4 digit PINs. I did use my BKK bank VISA debit card in Aus. ATM with no problem.
Used a BKK Bank ATM earlier today, see that they are trying to get people to swap their VISA cards for Union Pay ones ...no thanks, for the time being at least.

Nice looking windows ! Where did you get them from, I'm guessing it was not the local village shop ? Was there a sliding option too ?
-
Early this morning, before reading this, I withdrew from BX into my BKK Bank account via Kasikornbank, seemingly no problems with that transaction.
-
The first I heard of this was yesterday from my GF when she mentioned about only one months rent as deposit . Apparently it has been publicised on the Thai language media, but I had never seen anything.

So if you go on vacation that takes you through different provinces you have to change your plates. What rubbish.
Who said anything about vacation ? They are talking about moving to a new province to live. You are supposed to change the plates, but as somebody else said above, it's not high on the cops list of priorities normally. But if you are involved in an accident it does give them an opening for more tea money when they see your car is not legally registered at the right address.

Now, let some investigative journalist dig a bit deeper and find out who exactly in a previous government authorized or instructed the Finance Ministry to purchase these shares.
So you put your fingers to work before reading all the OP ? Nobody purchased anything, they were seized by the AMLO just like they seized other peoples' assets.
"the Anti-Money Laundering Office transferred the shares to the Finance Ministry in 2012 as a result of convictions of a wrongdoer related to the sex industry"
All seized assets go to the Finance Ministry, so nothing out of the ordinary here.
