I haven't checked all th previous links given in this thread, so I apologise in advance if this is duplicating information already given elsewhere.
However I thought all you budding rubber-tappers might find this link interesting, particularly those considering planting a new rubber plantation:

Hi guys;
Could you please give me some info on Ubon?
Nightlife, shops, people.
Also info on how much it costs to rent a house with a garden (not a townhouse!).
Thanx
I visit Ubon sometimes for shopping, don't know the prices of houses or what the nightlife is like. There are others in this forum who know more, maybe Marco will give you some more information. You can also find more info of a similar nature in some older threads in the forum.
Ubon has BigC, Lotus, some big building supplies shops. Sorry not much info but something to get you started...

FWIW, I've posted everything submitted so far. It's not much though....
Here's a list of the good restaurants in Ubon:

Does anyone know any more to add to that ?

I'd like to find out more about Ubon as my girlfriend is from there. When she goes home she heads out to Phibun and then to some small village called Ban Saymoon. It must be really small because I can not find it on any map so far. Do you have any idea where Ban Saymoon is located?
Looks like you have one of the first web pages from there. I don't know if you have a way to post more pictures but would I would like to see more.

I am building a house just outside Ban Saymun and go there every month. It is a tiny community and very friendly, only 5mins from Phibun (by pickup). Let me know if you want more info, and by the way what is her name ? My GF must know her...

Do you have any theories as to why mountains, fruits and typhoons are classified as "loohk"?
Hi, thanks for the fascinating list. I am very much a beginner at Thai language, so please correct me if I am way off. Is that "loohk" related to "children" ? If so, could mountains be children of the earth, typhoons children of the sky (or of Vishnu ?), and fruit being obvious ?

- just to add to my previous as you also mentioned better restaurants: there is a smarter Thai restaurant called Paddy Fields on Alexander Road (opposite Ikea).
I haven't tried it yet but it looks nice from the outside.

I am taking a TG to SNG for 3 nights and would be very grateful for any advice on the following:-
1.Marriott/Shangrila
2.Upmarket restaurants
3.Bars
4.Thai restaurants
5.Daytime activity that a TG would enjoy other than eating or sleeping
Thanks a lot
I live in Singapore with my TG most of the time. She enjoys wandering around the shops in Holland Village, and there is a decent (but not special) Thai restaurant (Aroi Thay, not Thai Express). There is an Isaan restaurant on 6th Avenue, just near the junction with Bukit Timah Road. There is a Thai wat in Bedok, but for a short trip you probably won't need that. If you need any more advice, email me, if I am in town would be happy to meet up or answer questions. Agree with post about night safari, zoo and bird park are terrific but could lead to "dark skin"... If she is really home-sick for local food and thai people, visit Golden Mile on Beach Road, a mini-thailand-in-a-mall.

G'Day Mike
Welcome, i'm at the Ubon town almost every day exect (13-20 Aug)
Drop me a mail and have coffee when you are in town.
"Phibun" has lot of farang as well,,,(Norwegians at least)....
-Marco-
Thanks Marco, I will contact you. I hardly ever see a farang in Phibun so will be interesting to find out where they are...

Just wonder because I hate flying over Ubon to land in Bkk and then get another flight to fly to Ubon.. I'm coming from Japan btw
Rumour has it, it's on the cards for somewhere around Surin. Although Ubon is titled Ubon Ratachani International Airport. I think that's Thai for people from any country can land there.
I thought Ubon had flights to Siam Reap ? That would make it international...

Hi, I am new to this forum so hello to all.
I currently visit Ubon (actually Phibun Mangsahan) every month, where I am building a house. Later I wil spend more time there and would be interested to meet other farangs for a beer, or to learn more about the area (restaurants, bars, whatever...).
Cheers,
Mike
