I thought Air Asia do the BKK - Udon Thani route? Would save you the 1500 baht Laos visa too.
Cheers,
Mike

Thanks daoyai and eyecatcher.
Yeah, maybe I'll go to Italy instead and console myself there :-)

Can anyone recommend a hotel not too far from the Chinese consulate, anywhere from 500bt - 2000bt ? Is there a farang bar / restaurant nearby?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi ttl,
Others may have better / more recent information, but I believe a wall, including labour and materials, is about 500 bt per square metre; so about 1000 bt per linear metre for a 2m high wall. I am not sure if that includes rendering (saap).
Good luck,
Mike

I am reminded of a lovely sign I saw in a pub in England (notorious for low-beamed ceilings), which said simply "Duck or Grouse".

Is that house or any house for rent in Ubon City or very near?
No one seems to answer that number.
I need a single story house with enclosed yard. 3,000 baht finders fee for anyone who finds the house we choose.
Thanks
KDC
It is within the ring road. If you open the kml file I uploaded before you will see the location.

On a slightly more positive note, there is at least a gibbon sanctuary in Phuket that rehabilitates gibbons found in captivity, and, when possible, releases them into the wild. Such efforts should be supported, and can be by donations from the public.

Are their stamps/signatures recognised by the institutions that typically require docs to be notorised?
Yes they are; and I paid about 2000 baht for two single-paged documents, if I remember correctly.

The place I mentioned has stamps/wording/signature that are accepted overseas. I paid about 2000 baht for two single-page documents if I remember correctly.

Sorry it's taken so long, I haven't been to that side of town...
The phone number is 086-617-2374.
The house number is 99/42, I don't know the name/number of the soi.

I am a farang owner of a restaurant and I have a work permit and work in my establishment with the blessing of the authorities. I never have to pay tea money at all, just do the right thing and you will not have a problem.
I also know another farang bar owner with a work permit as a bar owner.

Thanks for that Mike. Yes,I'd like the phone number if you get a chance to get it.
Cheers
I'll try tomorrow if I get a chance...

I've had some great wines at Baan Wine - Australian, South African, Kiwi, Chilean, Argentinian - I didn't see any Thai wines but maybe they have them.
Will be there tonight for the tasting!
Cheers :-)

Off topic I know, but you might also like to try TC Kitchen (next to Laithong Hotel). They have Kebab nights on Saturdays.
Cheers,
Mike
I quite like those, though l think they should be called Fraheetas. (My spelling).
I think that is "fajitas". You could be right, I don't really know the difference, but Lance's are like the Turkish döner kebab inasmuch as the meat is carved from a rotating spit in front of a fire.

I recently found a good company providing service of "white goods" - fridges, aircons, washing machines, etc. They are a service centre for Toshiba, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, LG and others, with training certificates on their wall. I wanted a spare part (shelf) for my fridge and they showed me an exploded view of the fridge on their computer so that I could accurately identify the part.
The are on Phadaeng Road, one block north of Wrong Way Cafe, and on the opposite side to WWC. They are directly opposite a prominent sign saying "Lux". The shop is easily identified by all the "Toshibe Service Centre" and similar signs.

I saw a sign on the gate of a bungalow saying for rent with a phone number at the location indicated in this kml file - open it with Google Earth. Don't be misled by GE's old images, this is actually a housing estate with a private school. If I drive that way again soon I'll write dowb the phone number...

Thanks for that KhunBenq

There is an epidemic of new shop houses recently built and under construction, all over Ubon. Drive around and you will see them, some have phone numbers on them for sale or rent.
Good luck

.. while we're on the subject, there seem to be no public libraries in Thailand? Is there any kind of book swapping club in Thailand? I can't live without my afternoon read and I don't like Kindle.
I think that the fact that you rarely see a Thai reading a book or even a newspaper is sad, apparently the Vietnamese are avid book readers but they don't have to use an alphabet like the Thais use, do they? Reading Thai gives me a headache after 5 minutes.
Ubon Ratchathani has quite a nice public library. For my own reading I depend on shopping trips to Bangkok and good old Amazon. The only trouble with Amazon is the shipping adds quite a percentage to the book cost.

I have a Steed 450 for sale, it needs a new plug lead (thanks to my puppy). It doesn't have any paperwork though. Let me know if you are interested.

It is very straight forward. You basically need this arrangement (see attachment).Water tank.pdf
