The Covid-19 pandemic may take about two years to slow down, after a large number of people become infected and become immune to the disease

Probably got this assumption from the Spanish flu (another pandemic) which infected a third of the world population in 1918 killing 50-100 million people. Before dying out ( in its original form) roughly after 2 years due to people getting an immunity to it. It continued to mutate, going through different mammals and apparently is still with us today all be it, not in its deadliest form

Again this misconception of house ownership. When you buy a plot of land, your name (must be Thai citizen) is listed on the chanot as owner. When you build a house on that plot, no chanot (title deed) is being issued for the house, so whoever owns the land owns everything on it (non movable structures).

For many years many of us have been  lead to believe, exactly what you have stated, simply just because for most people they simply did not know their way around the system, including myself.

Khunper, in this thread, has now brought the in the subject of superficies, of which i was not aware of so its still a learning curve after a lot of research (times are changing)

I placed the ownership of land into to my 3 year old son which everyone told me was not possible. (The land is owned by my son and my GF's brother who owns 50%) I had to tell him, after the fact, that he could not borrow money on the land.

Not owning the entire plot,  my son could not agree to anything until he reach's 20 years of age.(we may still be able to separate the land)

I may of created my own problem in that i, now, do not know if i can get a Usufruct on the land (If anyone can help with this please comment)

But in most cases you do own the property or rights to it as long as the lease is in place unless it runs out or is renewed. this is basically no difference to the rest of the world.

Acc to government gazette it is only OA and OX. From UK you go nowhere at this time. Some countries can apply for STV.

far to many contractionary statements on here

I have OA extension based on retirement with re-entry permit {apparently added last week) can i return on this basis?

I also have Child birth certificate but extension is not based on that so can i return on it or not (constant conflicting view points)

I appreciate people trying to help and things are constantly changing. Hence i now need to look at the easiest options

I only come for 3/4 months at a time and always get insurance based on that. Due to the new requirements, insurance wise, it was my intention to change it to dependant or marriage on my return.

If i return, i now worry that they will want to see my insurance, which obviously is not from an approved provider and possibly refuse me entry after already spending ££££ to already get there

That said - some people planned to spend the rest of their lives in Thailand. Why didn't they prepare for it? It's like if you want to have very nice retirement, but you refuse to save up for it, then complain it's everyone else's fault that you now can't enjoy retirement.

Some people did but the steep strength of the Baht (especially of the past 6 years) has blown their plans out of the water

You cannot plan for that just like no one saw this pandemic coming and its implications

We do not understand why they cannot just allow them to show the marriage certificate, or proof of child, and enter under retirement.

But this is how they are currently enforcing it.

where did you get this information as i was just about to apply for the COE hopefully using my child's birth certificate with myself named as the the father and bearing my family name

Something to ponder is that right now she has no legal claim to support.  If you get legally recognized as a parent it could cost you support.  Run away get a new phone change

About 2000bt per month according to another thread on this subject about a year ago

Personally one way or the other i would want my child to grow up knowing i loved them and wanted to support them

At least then you will have a relationship with them at a later date.

You post is confusing. At the end you

are talking about not a subject to 90 day border runs???? And you are only mentioning marriage and dependant???

    Let me explain the confusion

The reason i state i was forced into a OA visa is simply because if you have too many tourist visa's its common knowledge that many people have been turned away at the airport. rightly or wrongly is irrelevant,  i was merely trying to emphasise they were ensuring/forcing everyone  onto the correct visa, as they saw it

In regards to the non O visa, i myself could be in error this is because when the OA visa was first announced i am of the belief it was the only option open to me at that time. An Australian living  near me was doing doing border runs every 3 months  and stated that's what all his friends were doing

If you google a non immigrant O visa it always mentions via marriage or dependency but never retirement. Having looked since your comments i have now found evidence in regards to your statement but only after actually putting in the word retirement and not just Non O visa

When the OA visa was first introduced i am of the belief that the Non O was not an option (i was only 50 and not retired) have the rules since then changed? could you still get a Non O at age 50 then?

Maybe just the fact that i could do it in my own country but i don't think so

It would be simple, their thought process is very shallow...

Unfortunately i have always said that Thailand is a populous of limited intelligence but you would expect the people at the very head of the government and such like would have the necessary credentials.

Maybe/most likely most of these positions are gained more through power and money rather than actual intellect.

It would not be hard, but you could re-enter on STV and then take the chance that they are open as usual after your 270 days. Then you can apply for a Non-O and extension on that. Problem solved.

I think you are missing the point?

Why should i get an STV which will nullify my present extension of stay.

They forced me/others into getting the OA visa years ago which i had no problem with. Now they are declaring it useless but when this is all over, no doubt, they will declare that i need to have it again.

Your answer to the problem involves extending the STV 2 times

I am only in Thailand 3/4 months at any one time so my problem is not solved

Applying for a Non O is only worth it if you are not subject to the 90 day border runs, not everyone is in that position. Ie marriage/dependant

you will need to arrange legitimisation of your parentage before you can apply for extensions.

You ‘may’ also have to apply for a Single Entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa (based on parent to a Thai national) - that needs to be confirmed by your local Thai Embassy.

Thanks for the answers. If i can get into the country i would like to to get my OA extension changed to one of marriage (obviously this is going to need a trip to the amphur) but will probably be cancelled if i apply for a non O based on parent. This is purely because at some point if based on child it would eventually run out when they are 18/20. Also there is the issue of insurance. I always have insurance but as i am only here 3/4 months at any one time i prefer/need to get my own

Where would i be staying and what are the costs involved if I can get here?

Fishing rights were SOLD - long after UK's entry.

    It was a commercial transaction.

Thanks, a very interesting read and a huge conundrum

The UK's only real option (from what i can see) is to buy it back at such a huge cost they will not be prepared to do it

However it's not going to help the French fishermen as they are fishing under the EU fisheries policy set by the EU

The Quota's are owned by specific foreign companies which would obviously, now, be set by the UK. None of which is actually going to help the British fishermen.

Who said they they were STOLEN by the EU?

Correct me if i.m wrong but weren't they given away/traded as part of the UK's entry to the the common market. Under the EU.s common fishery policy

well, were not in it now so were taking it back. As we should

My point was that the French fisherman have the most to lose and that they have their prime minister, Macron, to thank as he did everything he could to undermine a deal

I'm talking about when the UK were trying to negotiate a deal to stay within the EU

France and Spain's insistence on keeping the same deal re fishing rights in UK waters might also be viewed as being "intransigent and unrealistic".

I read only yesterday that Eu fleets catch 4 times the amount of fish in British waters than the UK

Many french fishermen catch 70 to 80% of their fish in British waters

Macron tried everything he could to make an example of the Uk for leaving the EU. A possible deal could of been made if it were not for him who attempted to thwart any type of deal. I hope he truly suffers for his obstinate stance

You don't need a job to pay AVCs, so why don't you just continue to pay for another 6 years

Congratulations on only having to pay class 2 rates (looking at the criteria it seems because you were abroad/not living in the UK) unfortunately i am stuck at having to pay class 3 which is £15 per week which is where my £800 comes back to haunt me.

I presume you do realise your pension will be frozen if you continue to live abroad from its onset?

My pension is going to be £30 short of the £175 so as long as i live 3 years past my pension begin date it will be worth paying it but as i don't know what exactly i will be doing yet i am holding off on paying it

But be careful about back paying before April 2016 as it's unclear whether these will count towards your 35 years, I back payed 7 years in (& including) 2017 for approx £955

I don't know how you have done that as it's approx £800 for each year you want to pay for.

As people have already noted just go to the government website and it will tell you all you need to know.

I have 36 years contributions but was contracted out so i would not receive the full government pension

However  due to the changes when the earnings related part of the pension was abolished i can now work another 6 years so as to still get a full pension

I retired at 50 so it's unlikely to happen but i could get a part time job and as long as i earn approx £7500 in any one year that qualifies me for that year

Most features like sending money to another account require an OTP sent to the Thai phone number on file at the bank.

This is not true i send money from my Bangkok bank via my phone app all the time while i am here in the UK with my UK sim card .It does send a notification to my Thai sim card but i never see it as its now switched off in another phone. Its a long time ago now but i may well of had to of sent a code back, originally sent to my Thai sim card to register/allow to do it
