lol !  I always met a lot of resistance when bargaining for a double, but that was back in the 70's (and before I met the wife),  times have changed eh?   I don't want to die in any case but I wouldn't mind the peacefulness either.... or exploring other worlds.

Yeah but what I used to do all night now takes me all night to do.:wai:

Amen to that! I'm suddenly 71 and just got the dirt bike of my dreams this year, I run snowmobiles,  chainsaws, road race my corvette, and still work (online telecommuter) the same database programming job for approx 40 yrs. (I started with cp/m os and 300 baud modems )  I've been careful with my diet, managed my weight and the only med I need is a blood pressure pill. Until recently I was never been one to minimize alcohol consumption. I do feel a  significant loss of stamina, strength and libido but can generally keep up with my much more junior friends.

My best advice to those who want to live long is to include deep, controlled breathing exercises along with other exercise. This assumes you can inhale clean air of course ... also quit sugars and processed food sooner rather than later, eat plenty of fruits, greens and fiber. Have annual checkups with bloodwork... many years ago I was 'pre-diabetic' but all is fine now ... also get the fecal occult test for colon polyp detection if you are shy about a colonoscopy.  I never dreamed I'd manage to live as long as I have but I'm so very glad to be around now for my amazing extended Thai family.

Good on you.  It is a must to have good health. I agree with all you say.  I do envy you with your new bike, I rode bikes back home for some 40 years but had to give them up owing to my medical condition,  arthritis, a knee replacement and ankle fusion.

We have to keep active as we enter out twilight years so I walk my dog, twice a day, most days and also try to watch what I eat but like most, I like good food and wine.  Need to loose at least 15 kilos but I cannot do enough exercise to do this. So I am between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Yes the loss of stamina, strength and libido is a worry too but if one has an understanding woman, then they will get by.  I have a complete medical every two years, for everything and so far, so good and I'm only 2 years behind you.

I had diverticulitis about 18 years ago and had a metre of the large colon removed, told I was cured but I have noticed, through x-rays, that a few have returned but was told not to worry. Will be getting a second opinion.  I am concerned as I had an operation here where the doctor was negligent and ruined the sight in one eye.  I don't want any more stuff ups. All I can say is keep up the good work and live a long and fruitful life.:wai:

Prefer Macallan myself or a good bourbon......Bailley's usually consumed as a first alcoholic experience by youngsters(mostly female) due to its sweetness and cheap cost(so again it would be considered "slumming" it to use your terminology)

Not going to waste my time debating with a know all, know nothing, who has to emphasise how manly he is by what he drinks. You really have no idea, do you?  :wai:

For many, that sweet disgusting drink would also be considered slumming it, and don't forget what Schwarznegger said,

Your opinion and if affording and drinking it makes me girly, then so be it.  At least I do not have to slum it as anyone living on what is suggested here would be doing.  Be cool dude, I suppose to be a man you have to drink some of the poor quality beers that are now on the market here.

My cellar, (Yes I have one) consists of many high quality wines (Grange Hermitage) and I also have a good collection of whiskies, (Blue Label J W) and others, so definitely  girly. Maybe you should go back to the bar chair you're posting from and practice being manly.  Please have a good day.:wai:

this is somewhat off topic but I have to respond to this. My intention is not to steer the original topic off course.

Of course carbon dioxide is the source of all plant life. The problem is that we are burning fuels that were created from plants, and thus from carbon dioxide, that grew many millions of years ago and then were fossilized.

I agree that carbon dioxide will not kill us. In fact as you indicate we need carbon dioxide used in photosynthesis to produce all life energy. Also if there was no carbon dioxide in the upper atmosphere the average temperature of this planet would be somewhere around -15 degrees C.

What will (and is causing) the problem is all the extra energy radiated back to the upper atmosphere of the Earth due to rapidly increasing amounts of greenhouse gases, the major one of which is CO2. This is what is causing the average temperature to rise annually by what most people see as a tiny increase but which in fact is an historical huge increase.

I only answered as I disagree with what you initially stated and even more so with your additional response. Bu as we are getting too far off topic maybe we can discuss this in a future relevant thread,:wai:

I haven't read through all the pages but some of the criticism I have read explains why we have a serious problem with our planet and it is doubtful that civilization as we know it today will manage to last another 100 years unless the amount of carbon dioxide released is drastically reduced. If most people were like the OP we wouldn't have this serious problem.

So instead of being critical I think the OP deserves congratulations. The past 40 years has seen the lucky few well off gain immense riches while the poor masses have been getting much poorer.

Another credulous prediction, one which neither of us will be around to confirm or refute. But given that Carbon Dioxide is the source of all plant life are we too expect that we will have the "Attack  of the Plants", that will kill off us humans because there is no way that CO2 will.  :wai:

  7. As I sit here sipping on my Baileys and ice I am trying to figure out what I would have to go without to live on that amount.  Nope, not going to go without but if he can live on that than good on him. My lifestyle is not over the top but what I want and when I want, I buy it. I came here to live a comfortable life but to do it on 4000 bah, nope, no way.  By the way, I'm not into bars or the girls found there, but I do like a good food and a good drink so I do save a few baht by not indulging where I don't need to.  Oh, and my dog, he eats that amount in food each month so he would blow that budget straight away. :wai:

Yeah, and given some of his thoughts, he ought to be out of here for good.  He was given a 3 year ban, now wants to come back in and is prepared to do so illegally.  I wonder why, maybe there's a lot more to this than meets the eye?  If that how he wants to operate, than I'd say away you go, no advice and try your luck.  No wonder Thais think they way they do about some Farangs, they fully justified given this little episode.:wai:

Haha your kidding? Nobody breaks laws like thais do.

If I was kidding than I wouldn't have posted.  We happen to be discussing a Farang so what has the bringing of Thais into the equation got to do with the price of eggs.  If we were talking about Thais, then I would mention them but as we're not, then I didn't.:wai:

I'm renting in BKK, and CW Immigration has never asked for that in connection with my retirement extensions.

Well they do say every office has different rules.  Maybe mine was only needed because I changed addresses.  I must ask next time I go there, which by the way is Nakhon Pathom.:wai:

Where do you buy oats. They are still the same price at gourmet market where I shop. Quaker oats are better, come in a can sort better protection against ants and are only a few baht more expensive.

I buy the same, have done so for the past 4 years.  When I lived in Loei was paying 108 Baht a can, now moved to Nakhon Pathom province and the same can costs 78 Baht. Also noted  a certain fruit juice that I paid 57 Baht for, forever and a day, has now jumped to 62 Baht for the litre.  That's a 20 cent increase when I compare that amount to the exchange rate with the Aussie dollar.  No big deal but I cannot see the justification. :wai:

  11. I changed address almost 3 months ago, but unlike yourself, mine was from one province to another.  As I was renting I had to sign the lease, and a copy of this, together with a copy of the Landlords ID and house-book, I attended immigration at Nakhon Pathom.

After speaking with the girl on the information desk, I was directed to an IO who, within 10 minutes, had everything entered into the system, attached  a change of address paper to my passport, gave me a TM 28 and 30, and advised me that once completed they could be returned within a week. My niece did the next day after the landlord signed the relevant paper and I was not required to return.

I returned the following month for my 90 day report, in and out within 5 minutes.  Both pleasurable experiences.  Fortunately, I am able to speak Thai which, no doubt, helped in expediting the matters and made the visits quite pleasant.

Given the conversation went from my immediate needs to personal, if I had a Thai wife and  family, what was my country of origin and did I like Thailand, etc., etc.  It gave me the impression that not many foreigners, at least in Nakhon Pathom, cannot  converse in Thai.  It has certainly helped me, so if the ex-pats take a little time to learn the basics, then maybe they will find their visits will go a lot more smoothly. :wai:

  12. I find it concerning that having already contravened the overstay rules that someone is now looking for more ways (legal or illegal) to side step those rules.  If you mess up, suck it up and hopefully learn from your mistakes. If you do something illegal to overcome the stuff up and are caught out , it may well cause even more grief.:wai:

  13. Just bought 6 small Chang at Lotus, Salaya, price per bottle, 34 Baht. Shelf stock is dwindling and not being replenished.  Also bought a 1 litre Bells Scotch, never tried before, at a cost of 499, so don't know if same, cheaper or dearer.  Looked at the wines and most appear to be at pre-tax increase.  Actually saw that Bailey's Irish Cream had been reduced by 200 baht, maybe to get rid of old stock.:wai:

  14. I know it's a little off topic but I believe I have the best dog repellent.  It ain't cheap but if looked after it will last at least 12 years.  It's a highly trained body guard dog, a 3 year old  German Shepherd.  In my moo ban, there have been a few dogs, even up to four in a pack, who wanted to try their luck, not any more and I can walk around the entire village and not have any dog, large or small, or person come any where near us.

I have never seen people so scared, he does not show aggression unless someone enters our personal zone, which they don't.  He does not bark or growl but will attack on command, thank god something I have never had to do.  It is an absolute pleasure  to be able to walk morning and night without any of the worries that the OP seems to be experiencing. :wai:
