  1. I am new to this particular topic, having been away from the internet for a while, but I guess most of it has already been said. Like being 100% alert at all times and riding at a very sensible speed and I have kind of got used to the philosophy of riding in Thailand (famous last words), but there is one maneuver that I have changed over the past 6 months which, I believe is much safer than the norm.

That of crossing a dual carriageway I have just joined, to immediately make a U turn, when it is busy, which I do a couple fo times a month. The standard way is to wait for a gap and then indicate and gradually make your way from lane to lane until you reach the fast lane, but after about 3 near missed with trucks or big cars who won't slow down, I now do it the pussy way. I stop at the entrance to the highway wait for a big hole and ride straight across until I reach the relative safety of the central reservation, then ride along to the U turn point. I am referring to doing this on my Honda Wave, especially when I have a passenger, where the bike's performance is not that great and the passenger (wife) is scared.

With very little biking experience on UK roads, I don't really have a datum and in some ways I think that is a good thing with no preconceived ideas that don't apply in Thailand, along with a lack of willingness to show off. I have a bike capable of doing the "ton" and wouldn't dream of doing so on any Thai road.

During my many days on this planet, I have driven more miles/km that most, in more countries than most and in more varying conditions than most, I have developed some reasonable bike riding skills of the past 6 years here and just refuse to do anything that will lead me to fall off. The old adage that "there are old bikers and there are bold bikers, but there are no old bold bikers", seems to ring true to me.

I guess all this put's me in the boring fart category of bikers, but slow seems to work in Thailand.

    Thats good thinking man.

There is no rush, and i too am amazed at the things i see people do just to get a little ferther.

Correct if its too busy simply join the flow of traffic move over to the right and do a u-turn

even if you go maybe half k or so its only a little bit of time,

"beats being a fleshy virus on the road".

  2. Through my alcohol induced haze sitting in a bar at Nana at 0100 this morning trying to read Thaivisa on my phone I misread the new rules and thought they said no more bar girls. Now that would really hurt the economy!

Please, stop giving them ideas!!!! sad.png

Let's face it. Prostitution is the most blatant in your face illegality in Thailand. The country is FAMOUS for it. If the Junta want to be honest and true to form, they MUST crack down on it. No more prostitution. No more Full Moon raves. Only Wat gazing and elephant rides.

I doubt they have the guts. Pak Issaan would declare civil war.

Awh just wait and they will, it'll still be but not seen!

  4. Easy solution do what i do,

I have contracted land in Bali 25 years, built a nice size kit home.

    We,ll call this home base,

I get a simple tourist visa for Thailand 60 days, in Denpasar.

First month go north ChiangMai rent a bike and condo.

Second month Bangkok same same but no bike public transport is cheap and safer.

Go to Indo consulat get a tourist visa, index 211 60 days + 1extention 30 days.

Then back to Bali "home" walk in its ready i know what to expect.

Hang around a few months then do it all again with only carry on 7kg + laptop.

Over time Thai Immo and Bali Immo know my travel movements so they have no

problems at all, in the past 8 months i have 3 visa exempt entrys in my PP and

I will be back in LOS in November.

Thai Immo has no problem with this sort of travel itinary as long as it is all legal.

Bali Immo just laugh because its all legal "use the law to your benafit".

  5. Talk about dumb laws, this country is getting good at that.

NCPO: Enforcing existing laws that where ignored.

Ever single thing that has gone down over the past few months has been upholding

    existing laws.

    "Good on them"

They are not stoping me from having a drink, all they are enforcing is existing laws

to clean up a filthy situation.

When i am in Thailand 6 months every year i do so legaly.

What the NCPO is doing is enforcing Thai law on the Thai people that have been

flawnting there own law for years.

I do not care what the NCPO does to the Thai people if the cant live within the boundry

    of Thai law...

  6. I arrived august nr 20 for another holiday (30 days entry) I was in my homecountry for 3 months, so didn't think having problems at all, BUT I did had an 4 year old passport with stamps of earlier holdays from 2011 - 2014 (2 x 1 month in 2014) and they picked me out, said I was doing borderruns (Thailand don't have any borders with Europe I learned on school :-) ) and couldn't get in. Lots of intimidation, told me to send me back again, discussions on a bench with an officer for one hour.... and finally got the choice, pay 3000 baht for breakfast for 30 employees or have a problem and fly home. Could be bluf, but what to do at 7 AM after a 11 hour flight?? For the record: didn't stay in thailand for three months, had a confirmed ticket, cash money and appartment booking :-)

Paid 3000 (couldn't do it in public area but had to go to an offce) and he gave me a stamp for a 30 days entry.

Impossible to prove you are just a tourist. Everybody knows what will happen in Thailand if you let it up to individual officers to decide what to do..... you end up paying money!!

Are you telling us that the officials at the airport are corrupted ? You paid 3000 to get in and no receipt? Was this at Suvarnabum ?

I doubt they would give a receipt if it was a backhander. Ive got loads of entries this year mainly 4 to 5 days at a time of every month or so , I went into Swampy last time and the I/O never said a thing. The time before at DM , he asked my a couple of questions , how long are staying and why am I coming to Thailand . Better take some petty cash when I fly in on Thursday this week
It was,ent a backhander: Quote/ (coulden't do it in a public area but had to go to an office)

    thats (balarki) Troll post.........

    "Rubbish"

I was in LOS December 2013, 30 day visa exempt,

then again May 2014, 30 day visa exemp,

again Ramadan june 2014 28th - july 27th visa exempt,

I will be there again November 2014, 30 day visa exempt,

Did you get a recipt for your 3000 or did you ask to see the next official up

or did you just hand over the cash with a smile :-)
