Lol, I forgot the original question. Answer is it is not a problem at all wiring money back and forth from your USA bank and Thai bank. Just pay the fees. Also they will ask, both banks, if you want the money transferred in Baht or US dollars. Check the rates and decide. I did awesome with KTB and them receiving the money in USD?

I am an American and I have posted before about the treaty of Amnity but they take it down as ileagle discussion. I am retired here 2 years and each time I go the the U.S. Embassy in Bkk. Get my income statement saying I have the money notorized, then off to immigration. That's it for an American. No bank statements needed, but some places outside Bkk might ask anyway.

Download "Kodi" then "TVADDONS". Free tv and movies. No adds or commercials. I have for American tv. HBO,Showtime,etc...all channels. NBC, ABC,LIFETIME,FX,FOX......ALL OF THEM. You can download for foreign tv also. Italian, GB.,etc. Never pay for cable again.

I thought more would be said about Phuket. I hear it is beautiful.

And yet I make nothing and have a 1 year retirement visa. Like I said. All the negativity would come out. YOU CAN'T, but it's not truthful, you lie, but but but.
if your an American and over 50 and want a 1 year retirement visa in Thailand then I say go for it. It is soooo easy.

Just thought I would give the complainers and doomsayers something to turn into a negative as they always do.
For the 2nd time I have gotten my retirement visa with almost no paperwork or proof.I am an American and we have the treaty with Thailand that only requires a notarized letter of income. I now live in Pattaya but hear that the immigration here sometimes goes against the treaty and demands a show of proof of the $800,000 baht, which I won't have for another 3 months. CW goes by the rules and does not. So I drove up to the American embassy and got my income statement notarized. ALL A NOTORY DOES iS VERIFY YOUR SIGNATURE. This means you can fill in any amount you want for your annual income. ANY AMOUNT. Then fill out your TM 7, get all your copies and pic and stuff and wam bam thank you mam your done.
I did have a small problem as I moved from Bkk to Pattaya and they said I must do this now in Pattaya immigration. I said how hard it was to drive up so early and go to The American Embassy then up there, wait 5 hours to be called and then told no. I asked if I could give my BF Bkk address and they agreed. Except for the wait it only took about 5-10 min.
Easy peasy .

I had no problem at KTB bank in Festival mall at Chatuchak.

Legal age of consent in Thailand is 15. Obviously the Thai beleive 15 is old enough to have sex. Foreigners obey a different law that makes it a crime under 18. If it bothers you so much that an older man is with a younger woman of legal age then you have moved to the wrong country. 18 is legal everywhere in the world and very popular here. I really don't understand people like you.

I agree with others. I moved out of a very beautiful inexpensive condo because in the 1 year I lived there they put up 2 giant tv screens for all the bumper to bumper traffic traffic on paholyothin. The bright lights were to much for me to take. And I was on the 10th floor. Driving was even more of a distraction with the big flashes of light. But a funny foam key they say distracts drivers? I would like them to prove that not just flap their gums. Show the study that says it's distracting to the point of causing accidents but the giant tv'screens flashing are not. I doubt their is any study. Just someons misguided opinion. If it is such a distraction then outlaw the sale of them.

I went on the Web and got a 10 year car and motercycle combined license for very little money. Mailed to me here in thailand within 2 weeks

Wow some really bad drivers are responding here. You really don't know who was at fault? She turned in front of oncomming traffic and you don't know who is at fault. ? Hope I never encounter any of you on the road.

And thailand wants the be the hub for Asian education. What a joke. I tought in the schools for awhile until I got fed up with their system of education. They seat students in groups of 3 to 4 and encourage them to cheat or copy off the smart person near them. I tried to make them separate into rows like a normal school and was told that they need to see what the others are doing so they can pass the class. I was never allowed to fail a student. If they failed a test a thai assistant would take them in the hallway to retest. Then give them the answers. I refused to give them more than a C if this was done. They would go from 10 question out if 60 correct to 50 or 60 correct after this retest. Not fair to the others who actually studied for the test. I got a lot of flack for this, but stuck to my guns.
Now they want to deny an education to students who are trying to better themselves because they don't like the way they look. I seriously doubt that Thailand will ever be known for the way it educates it's people. All they know how to do things is to copy another person's work. They never learn to think on their own.

This should also apply to the military then! Expel all military with tattoos. Maybe then they will realize that their prejudices are unjust.

I live in a house and have 3BB. They are garbage. I started with their 10 MB pkg and was getting 1 to 2 Mb. Could not do very much. So I opted to upgrade to the 15 Mb pkg and now get 4 to 5 Mb. On a rare occasion I get close to 10. The upload speed is usually 1/2 to just over 1. I watch American TV and download movies and it does not work very well with such slow speeds. I live at the beach at the north end of Jomtien if that matters. I wish I had better choices with other providers but I think from what I read the others are much worse.

You can download the Income form from the Embassy website, make an appointment for a notary also on the site. Fill out the form, NOBODY checks or verifies it, pay the fee. Whole procedure takes about 15 min. Then go to Chang Wattana. Easy Peasy, promise.

For Extension of Stay, FOR AN AMERICAN ONLY, you need an Income Affidavit ,.notarized by the US Embassy, and thats it. You never need to show proof of income. Shame on the person who wished they would make an exception for you. Like I said before, to many people here go out of their way for doom and gloom.

I have never known them to ask for anything and addition to the income affidavit from the US embassy. I know of several Americans who did not have the funds in the bank and just brought their income affidavit notarized from the embassy and went to Chang Wattana and in no time at all were approved. I would not worry. It is the way it is with the treaty of Amnity. I do not believe the other guy at all, I fear he is one of the many here who go out of their way to make things negative.

You do not have to prove your income if your an American. I am shocked that nobody mentioned this. All you have to do is go to the American embassy and fill out an income form and have them notarized it. Cost 1,650 baht. You fill out the form and put whatever monthly income you want, they only are notarizing you signature, so put down whatever monthly figure you want, nobody will check. Use that form to get your retirement visa. Very quick and easy process. When I found this out I was so surprised. The USA has a treaty with Thailand where they don't check our bank accounts, only need the form from Embassy notarized. I have had my retirement visa for about 7 months now and I never had to prove my income to anybody. This is only true for Americans, Surprised UBON JOE did not mention this to you.

Lets try this post again. How do schools get a work permit for people who do not have a college degree? I know they do, but usually outside of Bangkok. I do know of a few here in Bangkok that do it, but I don't know how. IF YOU CAN NOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION PLEASE do not respond. I do not want you to tell me the This laws about getting a WP, ONLY if you can answer the question. Thank you

you are obviously not a teacher in Thailand, and dont know what your talking about. I have spoken to several teachers most teaching over 10 years and only 1 has a Thai teaching license ans 1 is getting it, the rest say it is not important. If you are not a teacher and don't know what your talking about please do not respond to this post, bring your doom and gloom somewhere else please.
-
I think you must mean language schools, not just language as I am talking about teaching ENGLISH . lol
-
well, I guess that does not answer my question then, but thanks anyway.
-
I do believe a waiver is what the schools get and that it is what I want to know. How does the school get the waiver for a non degreed person.
-
You are incorrect, no teaching license is required. I know many teachers, with degrees, who have no teachers licence. They tell me it is not necessary and I have never read anywhere that it is, Only a 4 year degree in any field, does not have to be teaching.

I just upgraded from a 1 year to a 5 year DL. All I brought were copies of my lease. They were accepted no problem here in Chon Buri (Patttaya) office.
