  1. Dear all,

My girlfriend has decided to take a week off from her hair and beauty business as this season it is exceptionally quiet on Samui .i.e., No farangs = no money for bar girlies to get their hair and their makeup done and they account for about 90% of her business.

Her idea is to go to Hua Hin as she has never been.

She wants me to drive it (something I would never do by choice) as it is a very long way and with the daily mayhem I see on the roads a journey best avoided.

However, I suppose I will bite the bullet, but don't fancy doing the trip in one day. So I have been looking to see if there are any places worth visiting and maybe stopping overnight en route.

I have looked on the map and there seems to be little or no civilisation that I can see.  At the moment she has suggested stopping overnight at a place called Ban Krut (some spell it Ban Grood) and then maybe hugging the coast up to Hua Hin. I had a look on Google and YouTube about Ban Krut and it seems pretty derelict, desolate and remote with potholes everywhere.

Has anyone taken this route and would you recommend or avoid it? There doesn't seem to be any other places of any size after Chumpon.

Also when we you get to Hua Hin is there much to do in the area apart from visiting a few temples, museums, the Railway station and statues (none of which appeals to me)?

The Cicada Night Market looks okay, but that won't take long.

Also had a look at Cha Am and that looks pretty quiet too.

I am trying to get her to change her mind and go to Phang Na or Krabi instead, but so far she is not budging...Please Help!

I would be most grateful for your replies.

  2. "Some weeks ago I was first time in Pattaya and walking through Soi 6, there were plenty of girls, but only the girls at the last bar (near the sea) with the fatties inside tried to take me in."

Were the "fatties inside" the girls or customers?.....Probably both!....No Offence!

  3. It is their own fault for not testing properly before "Going Live" with the new systems and not having adequate "Disaster Recovery" or "Rollback" Plans.

I was a Software salesman for 30 years plus and involved in selling functional testing, load testing and performance monitoring software and services.

I also sold "Disaster Recovery" services, i.e., if you have a major computer or systems failure you can move to an alternate site that has a duplicate of your "Stable Systems" (before the problem had occurred) at another location or these days often in "The Cloud".

I sold mostly to the Financial Sector and my customers included HSBC, Barclays, Halifax, Royal Bank of Scotland, Co-op Bank, Standard Life, The Post Office, etc., etc.

Lloyds TSB were also a target account for me, but they were too "tight" to spend any decent money on testing or disaster recovery which is ironic as they have an arm that sells insurance LOL!

"F" them I say and if you are a customer move banks ASAP.

Believe me, you'll know it when you get it.

For sure.....I got it this time last year on Samui.

One minute I was fine...the next I felt like I had been run over by a train.

It isn't nicknamed "Breakbone Fever" for nothing!!!!!

The hospital naturally wanted me to stay in, but I knew there is no cure so you might as well suffer at home than pay to stay in and risk catching something else.

But I went back each day for platelet counts and luckily just before they went below the limit I started to recover.

The worst of it lasted about 10 days, but I felt Shitty for weeks after.

I was planning to go to Phuket for a week's holiday tomorrow until I read this.

I think it would be prudent to delay.....Never want to go through that again.

And it is often much worse 2nd time and can even be fatal!

I advise you to AVOID AT ALL COST.:omfg::omfg::omfg:

The OP is clearly a drama queen and someone who walks around "looking for trouble."

The only times I have felt (however mildly--I'm 2 meters tall, 108 kg, and not, shall we say, the average person a Thai would think to start trouble with) threatened with physical violence in Thailand is from drunken farangs, usually falling in that group of "our friends from the British Isles"...you get the idea.

Well I am glad you are nearly 2 metres tall because this English "Drama Queen" is only 170cm which means you are the perfect height for me to smack you right in the "Deleted" without bending down :thumbsup:

    Are you German perchance?

There is almost zero animosity. Even during the conflict the expat Brits were still having a great life.

Well life is strange....Both my grandfathers were involved in World Wars primarily against Germans in WW1 and WW2.

My Dad's father went to war aged 16 (in 1914)....He was at the Battle of the Somme amongst others......it is "Sketchy" because he mostly refused to talk about it?

My grandfather on my mother's side was involved in the second World War, but did not see "Action" until "D-Day".

He had been a training sergeant with the DLI (Durham Light Infantry) but sick of seeing kids he had trained get killed and having to write letters to their mothers he volunteered for the Normandy Landings aged 28.....he had many stories.....After the advance into France he ended up at Remagen bridge.

From his battallion only 8 survived the battle....including him.

He got a medal from Monty.

However, I do have some German friends.....when I say some...... I can count them on 3 fingers :laugh::laugh: so three!

But they are great guys so unless I am feeling a bit nasty and or hungover or probably both,  when I am with them I mostly don't mention the Wars or even England"s victory over Germany in the World Cup 1966. :cheesy:

Please, let's not go down the spelling/grammar nazi route, it takes the fun out of things. My grammar is terrible anymore and is only helped these days by having recently installed "grammarly" (free) which helps a lot.

I agree mate....only having a bit of "Banter" with 'Albert", I am sure I will get some back.

Unlike a one armed waiter I knew once who could take it, but he couldn't dish it out! :cheesy:

  9. Kwasaki you wrote:

    .

ok not capitals  so grammer police ( added to dictionary ) what's wrong with that advice that the OP can't understand proper english or not, right or wrong..?

I wasn't going to say anything Kwasaki, but I am afraid Wgdanson is correct....Your grammar is wrong...It should be "should have".

Also it is spelt "grammar" not 'grammer" which as you have an IQ higher (according to you) than Einstein and so obviously "MUST OF" gone to GRAMMER SCHOOL you SHOULD OF known! :cheesy:

    N'est-ce pas?:whistling:

BTW what sort of motorbike do you drive? A Hindah or maybe a Suzoki or is there a clue in your name? :whistling:

    Yes

    Sorry to hear that,

You may have seen an earlier post from me. I have a reasonable pension stash in the UK, but withdrawals are taxed at source.

I am investigating whether or not it is possible to reclaim the tax if declared "Non-Resident" on your tax return?

I had a mate who did QROPS...he hasn't lost money, but their management fees are so high (6%) it means he is lucky if he gets more than 1% growth.....thankfully the contract ends next month and he can withdraw all the balance without any settlement fees.

    Of course..responding was my pleasure.

I had an aunty (2nd times removed ) who went to the USA and reported that it was dirty and full of rascist p...ks but we merely responded by advising her to actually walk out of San Francisco airport and catch a taxi to her hotel.

Once on a business trip (I had just joined a big USA software company) I arrived at a hotel in Santa Monica California just North of LA.

I was alone and bored so went out for a walk to get some exercise and a bite and a couple of beers.

Everything seemed "pretty sleepy"......not much goin' on so I returned to my room and turned the TV on.

After flipping through the channels I stopped on a station showing a documentary about random "Video Mugging" and "Video Murders" self filmed by gangs......To my horror one video was shot in the exact location I was staying and exactly where I had been walking just minutes before.

I would not blame you if you thought this was made up....I didn't believe it either....FF ME!:shock1:
