Khao San backpackers, more quality tourists, but at 26 they shouldn't be so wet behind the ears.

Maybe it should come with the usual small print warning:
Reviews can increase as well as decrease figures.
I bet she wouldn't be so keen then, they might include her Cayman Islands and Swiss accounts...

A worthwhile and worthy project, but it is nothing new to play football where ever you can find space to kick a ball. Kids have been doing that for 150 years or more.
Clearing away the rubbish is something that should not be necessary, however I see locals dump household rubbish literally anywhere other than the bins provided, just through laziness.

I have stood behind Thai people on pay day that hog the ATM and produce card after card to take money out.
Maybe they are some of the relatives?

I hate getting letters from unspecified titles. How are you supposed to address a reply? Some people get upset if you put Dear Sir or Madam these days.
When the law does change for TG and all the other substrata of sex types we have suddenly had thrust upon us thanks partly to modern medical advances, I hope these people will be given a suitable title. Tgw or Tgm instead of Mr, Ms or the unfashionable Mrs. In same sex marriages how do they sign, Ms and Ms or Mr and Mr?
Sorry it is really out of control PC crap. As a couple of posters have said they were most likely stopped for suspicion of being there for illegal purposes, pick pocketing or the sex trade, not because of being dressed as women and having Mr Somchai Nodik in their passports.

Swiss Family Robinson had coconut bombs.
They poked it with a long stick! How long was the stick?
Half a kilo of semtex would have wiped thew silly grins off their faces!

I'm stuck in traffic as I post this....
I've posted on 50+ threads until now and I'm not even 200m from my place.
Naughty boy, don't you know it is illegal to use a mobile when driving. Shame on you! You never see Thai women (or men) do that do you.
Immediately fine yourself 200B and give to the nearest policeman!

And it's quite probable that he would have spent 17billion baht to fight bangkok's traffic jams had the Army stayed in their barracks where they belong.
Thailand wouldn't have a sky train or Suvarnabhumi Airport if it weren't for Thaksin. That's a fact.
Swampy is a mess and he made billions out it. Skytrain had been on the cards for decades and Toksin had nothing to do with it, it opened before he was PM under Chuan.
And what about the 2,500+ people that he had murdered?
Get your facts straight before you defend the indefensible.

What's wrong with the OP's existing 3 bank accounts? I don't understand why changing jobs apparently requires opening a new bank account.
That happened to me when I changed jobs. The company would only pay my salary into the bank they used so you had to open an account with them to get paid. One had such terrible service all the farangs used to withdraw all the money on payday and pay it into their normal accounts.

UK government couldn't give a crap about the general public and even less about a bunch of expats. Forget any idea of service. Expect all costs associated with passport renewals, visas, consular services to keep rising, whilst expat tax probably goes the US way - pay up or you won't be a citizen wherever you are.
The Tories seem determined to follow through on the Brexit disaster and everyone will have to pay and suffer the consequences. Ain't life grand when your're a politician - the decisions never affect you.
I forget the exact net saving by leaving to EU but it is something close to £9 billion a year (£18 million a day). The UK is not broke despite Tony Blair and mostly Gordon Brown's best efforts to see that it was before they left government. The UK is in a better position even compared to many other EU countries, have a look at France, Spain, Italy or Greece's finances.
Since New Labour sold off the frontage of the embassy it is time to modernize the rest of the facilities.
I wonder if Mr Davidson took his "wife" with him on the trip?

These figures must come from airline, ferry and Tunnel passenger data as they don't count passports/visas or even ins and outs at immigration in the UK.
The fact is nobody really knows who and how many for sure.

Public data is used in deriving the international overnight visitor arrivals and their cross-border spending in each of the 132 destination cities, using custom-made algorithms; paying special attention to eliminate the hub effects for destination cities such as Singapore, Dubai, Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
This Index and the accompanying reports are not based on Mastercard volumes or transactional data."
Okay thanks, so it is "public data" so any convenient figures will do.
Plus an algorithm or two and hey presto....
Just more nonsense then....
-
Since this is a Mastercard survey I very much doubt it has been done with figures for visas (no pun intended) or a count at immigration, since they don't count.
I expect the survey has been done by card transactions in London, Paris, New York, Sydney etc etc by people whose cards are registered in another country.
It clearly isn't anywhere near accurate, just like most polls these days.

Bangkok has absolutely zero attractions for tourists, apart from it's cheap, cheerful, and a gateway to Asia. London has many, and it's a gateway to Europe
(or used to be).
London is just the same as regards Europe, nothing has changed except the pound has dropped 10%, and you still need a passport to travel to the EU, and likely a visa if you are not an EU citizen.

I guess the short term fix will be the same old story: check points and road blocks and "spot fines" will be the order of the day. Money in the back pocket for the BIB and even more congestion for the rest of us...

No, the two procedures are distinct. The assets are seized because the ministry of commerce has fined her for the estimated damage. This is to pay the fine that has been already decided. Nothing to do with a possible conviction by a court later.
So what they have seized remains in the hands of the ministry of commerce as compensation "fine" for damages, which does not require a court to determine, is that right? And then when (or if?) she is found guilty on the other charges there will be lots more fines and possible jail time.
Oh I do hope so

They are seized. By an administrative decision which is completely independent from the current court case in which she testify regularly. It means whatever the future court decision on the judicial case, it's seized.
Okay, but in the somewhat unlikely event she is found not guilty on all charges and is let off all responsibility for the "lost" money, it will be released back into her account, will it not.
The fact that she will have millions hidden overseas by now doesn't matter of course.

As of 2 October I will no longer be an expat in Thailand. Can't explain how thrilled I am to be leaving.
Bye bye, I bet you still come on TV though...
Where have you found that is so much better?

Maybe we are losing something in translation, are assets being frozen or seized? Are we all sure what has happened or will/might happen?

Gentlemen, can we focus on the article and not get sidelined into the rights / wrongs of Taksin and how that translates or is interpreted as justification for action against his sister.
The issue with this order is not whom it is directed at, but the nature of the order. That the government has granted itself the power judge, jury and executioner, against its enemies. (I use the term enemies as I assume the previous government wasn't removed because they were viewed positively).
By sidelining the entire legal system the government clearly has shown that this is a political witch hunt. And lets not forget the government has granted itself immunity from future prosecution as a handy little caveat.
If you agree with the actions then consider if you would feel as agreeable if a future government aligned to the shinawatras old power cliche were to grant itself similar powers?
In a nutshell this discussion should be able whether governments should be allowed to steamroller the legal framework of a country for their own political goals, or should the legal system (for all it misgivings and wrongs) be the framework by which all citizens are tried under? And is enshrined in all previous Thai Constitutions. You decide.
The trouble with leaving it to the Thai legal system is simple: It doesn't work.

You would be surprised. There are "charities" that run trips to places like this and you end up living in dorms and doing manual labour for your money.
Of course the "charity" bosses get huge salaries and expensive company cars, free air travel and accommodation in top hotels to visit or go to summit meetings.
NGO heaven...
