  1. Back 20 years when I used to ride to work every day, at the end of each month I would almost always encounter a police check point as I approached Bang Na on Sukhumvit Road. It was constructed in such a way that the inner two lanes were blocked by busses, lorries, taxis and cars and there is no U-turn for some distance. The scam was to "catch" motorcyclists in the outside lane with no excuse and pocket the fines.

The sort of behavior by this cop is reminiscent of the scams we had to endure, which are often precluded by a "clamp down" of some type. Giving chase was unnecessary and potentially dangerous in this case.

And before anyone askes, I ALWAYS wear a helmet.

  2. "National Justice" she says, that's a laugh. Her father seems to have got away with mass murder among other things he was convicted for but spent less than an hour in prison.

The elderly couple caught gathering mushrooms were locked up for two years or more and Red Bull heir who killed a policeman is still, as the local press say "in self imposed exile".

  3. I would suggest what is wrong with the article is the headline. The article points out the obsession Thai governments has to shoot itself in the foot with ill-considered schemes or proclamations, and the unthinkable loosing face by U-turning.

There is some hope but the alternative venues for retirement look better every year. I have always resisted buying property here as it is a closed market to foreigners with high prices, short term leases or dodgy deals.

The latest wealth threat to hit us is the Income Tax scheme, and the news on that is "no news" 18 month into the proposed change.

Vietnam, Cambodia or the Philippines is fine by me if the Thai billionaires who run the country don't want us.

I thought the uniform was part of the fun and made it feel more official and real. I'm sad to see them go. I always liked seeing the kids out wearing them and doing their activities.

How expensive could a child's uniform be anyways?

That's the whole point, anything compulsory tends to be a target for profiteering.

Maybe it's got something to do with people struggling so much in the UK they're willing to do this but yes it a fair comment to say this is being coordinated. That's the end they need to find but from what I've seen the UK police are to busy arresting people for "hate speech" posts on social media.

It is interesting to note that some of them were "paying back" money they owed by doing this. Judging by the picture not one of them looks indigenous British. The UK government gives away UK passports these days like they are too hot to handle.

  6. I have to say this is badly reported. There is little about what the dispute was about and how the altercation began. There is nothing about the case against the Thais.

Whoever wrote this is expecting everyone to look it up online or read the reports in the UK press.

Only by reading the sensible replies do we get an idea of what has happened and what is likely going forward.

The court cases will sort this out when they are eventually held.

In Thailand it might be more safe just to wear a hitler shirt

A rather stupid left wing comment. "A hitler shirt", would that be a picture of him or a reversed Chinese sign for good luck? I doubt many young Thais would know his face and in general the population are mostly immune the US politics and western history.

I am personally 100% against cashless - there is only one winner  and it ain't us.

I totally agree. Anyone who doesn't know what Trudeao did to the striking lorry drivers in Canada should take the time to read about it. Going cashless is madness and will most definitely encourage an underground currency to emerge.
