  1. "That is true! Gotta love some of the tax breaks. Though all the realtor fees, etc. were enough!!"

Lucky for us we sold to a bulider and did not have to pay any commision. :D

Sad to see our little house torn down though....... :o

  2. "You've been retired for 7 years with $130,000 ?

    How do you manage?"

Haha, Loong's question was a fair one and you answer was a fair and to the point too.

Really, I was looking forward to your answer.

Some of us ( me included) need to save just a little more. I hope not to get in the "little more" rut, becuase it will always be just a little more, just a little more, all most there, till one's to old to enjoy it. help me guys if I am in this grove, becuase as of right now, I just need to save a "little more" :o

So really amire your answer, Haha. thanks.

  3. 'Even if you retire, you still pay taxes...what did somebody once say...the only thing certain in life is death and taxes...'

Well, true Craigt, except for a certain sum profit on the house we (yours and mine) just sold. Now that was a deal, yes? I guess we did really pay taxes on it all ready, just the amount was tax excempt. :o

  4. Like to see Fox News becuase is so fair and balanced....JOKING!!!! Just JOKING!!!

Do not watch much TV but the wife LOVES I mean LOVES the Golf Channel. She watching Golf anytime she is in front of the TV. She knows all the American and Euro players by name, has her favorites too.

So since you are reading this, can one get the Golf channel in Thailand?

  5. I am going to keep my opinions about religion to myself as I have a feeling that you would not like them :o

Come on, Uncle, let it all hang out....

let it all hang out....!!!!!!!!!!!! Could get arrested for that.

    No, Mr Bad High,

I learnt long ago that my opinions on religion are best kept to myself. It's a debate that cannot be won.

Lets just say that I respect peoples right to follow the religion of their choice. I just detest it when they keep shoving it in my face (No double entendre meant :D )

Buddism is obviously the main religion here, and as far as they go, it's a pretty good one.

Personally tho, I feel that the world would be a better place if religion had never been invented.

    That's as much as I'm prepared to say............sorry :D

Oh God, religions. They can give one a taste of God that maybe they would not get otherwise, there is so much more, but gosh darn, religious sure do cause lot of our world problems.

I believe we are spiritual beings having a humane experience not the other way around. Off topic I know.

  6. On a rainy day seeing umbellas outside a store waiting for their owners to return for them after they are finished shopping.

In the US of A the umbellas would not be there when the owners returned.

Then back to the thank yous.... I take the whole family ( inlaws) out to dinner, now we eat, drink, all the kids get ice cream and not one of them says, Hay middlepath thanks for the nice dinner, not one. In my heart I know they had a good time though which is good enough, I guess. :o

  7. Just do not want to end up that "guy at the end of the bar" as you have mentioned before.

For me 52 almost retired find my working gets in the way of mountain biking and riding motorcycles. Now living in CM is Motorcycle, mountian biking heaven.

Want to spend more time at time gym. love to have a big yard "which will keep me from living inside the moat" so I have a few hours of yard work a day. Love to spend a hour in meditation and yoga. My Thai wif is yoga freak so I have my teacher. I stink at golf so it's only up from here, love a long walk and a hard hike. After that is all done, sitting on my pourch have a beer or ice tea and maybe read some. To sleep early so I can get up early and feel fresh, and a clear mind. What to volunteer maybe wash dishes at your resturant :o , not sure I can on my retirement visa, so spend the next 40 years doing and being healthy.

We have a daughter in college in CM. Hope sure finds a good man someday, settles down and lives near us somewhere close enough and I can play grandpa. Just with help from friends not end up the "guy at the end of the bar"

  8. Thaipauly I'm sure we all can relate. Mine is not so much what I have said but more my sppellling... Being a blue collor working and spending much time surfing instead of school my spelling suffers. So many times I post then come back later to see responces and look at my spelling and it is to late to change, time as run out for corrections. I make up for my spelling though by having a big heart and being a good friend.:o))

  9. Next month Thai wife and I land in CM. We have a 4/5 star hotel booked for the first few days. Now this hotel could be in any city, nice, but no real charm.

Plus we have the in-laws coming to visit us and I really do not want to be seen in a fansy smasy Hotel so we booked a guest house, now the question>>>>

"Has anyone stayed or know about the Red Hibiscus guesthouse? We rented the Mini suite. It looks nice but no pool and love to swim, but it's ok. Also if the in-laws want to stay over a night I can book them a room there and not pay out the nose for a room for them. Plus I am sure they would feel more comfortale in a place like this then the other place.

    Red Hibiscus reviews anyone. Thanks.

    "

"We are staying in the Red Hibiscus right now; it is very nice simple rooms, very clean, attentive and friendly staff. Prices are great, not noisy. beds are just ok; no tub but decent water pressure and AC. Laid back type place."

Laid back and simple, just want we need. Relly do not need a tub. Thanks so much for caring to answer my post.

How's breakfast? What time do they open, love my coffee early. :o

  10. Hi Gary,

Really at this time you have 200k to live on. Stated you have 200k in retirement accounts which I am sure can not be touched until you are 59.5 or you will recieve a server penalty, correct? So as of now you might be able to 9 to 10% on your remaining 200K, so say B50K before taxes which would eat up 15%. You cound do it living up north say like Mai Si.... Hard call, but follow your heart. Boths ways will work out for you, it's the law... there is no good luck or bad luck just luck, enjoy the ride.

Now for me, I enjoy my work, but i could enjoy it even more by not doing it. :o

I feel we (thai wife) and I need to but in 3 more years to do it right. So I have taken the work somemore route.

  11. All great answers, thanks.

Some see freedom owning a car some see freedom not owning a car.

Love to get by, by not owning one but may not be able to.

Here in the USA wife and I both have a car, really need it here in Los Angeles, but once in Thailand one car will be enough. Will relay on the wife to drive. Still would love to take the car out of the budget though.

What you own owns you. The simple life sounds so good. If we go get one I guess we will get a 4 wheel drive pick up.

    Thanks again.
