haha! don't assume the thai population as a whole lacks the basic common sense displayed by your wife. non of my thai friends, or even their children, would agree with your wife's assertion.

there is another side to thailand, believe it or not, where you can meet attractive, educated, independent females with good jobs and who are not in the slightest bit interested in finding a man, thai or foreign, to pay them to be their friend, gf or wife.
and the longer a certain type of foreigner remains ignorant of these wonderful, discerning women the better for the rest of us ?

not only thailand; watch the news about the US where angry students regularly go into schools and kill their fellow students and their teachers and angry adults often go into their work places ad kill their colleagues
and in the UK on friday and saturday nights angry people get drunk and have fights.
many societies need to sort out their anger issues.

They stop mid way through the cut to gawk at the telly and still expect me (us) to go back to them?!?!
Open the martket I say!
It might actually improve the standards and the work ethics here.
oh come on, give me a break. there are plenty of quality hair salons in bangkok where you can get a hair cut easily comparable to what you can get in europe. i know because i use them.

what a pointless, inaccurate and ill-informed comment.
if you have nothing positive and/or constructive to say then it's better to say nothing.

If you are going to be serious with a Thai girl, then you need to think like a Thai girl. Firstly, Thais don't date or marry outside their social class. You, as a westerner, are far above and beyond her social class. A middle class Thai girl does not expect a foreigner to "support me". You are middle class. You are being scammed by the lower class. Her other options are motorcycle taxi drivers and rice farmers.
I am single, and I lived here a very long time. No Thai girl, near my age, same social class, has ever asked me for money. Ever. They are proud to support themselves. I have Thai friends that will say, their families will never accept a girl with a baby, or a girl who is poor Isaan farmer into their family.
OK, I am not saying I agree. I just want you to understand what is going on here. If you choose to marry the girl that wants you to support her and her family, up to you. Just make sure you decide with all the information.
absolutely correct. i date middle class girls, as i would back home, many are thai chinese and 100% non have ever asked or expected me to support them or give them any financial assistance at all.
if you date poor girls, uneducated, lower class girls without a hard work ethic and/or independent streak then for sure they will expect you to pay to be their friend, gf or wife.
you want to pay? you can. up to you. but dont taint all thai females with this trait.

I think if people don’t want you taking pictures of their crap you shouldn’t take pictures of their crap.
I think generally they use “no photo” signs to make people think their merchandise is exclusive to their shop, and they do not want it copied.
true. or they are copying someone else and dont want it publicised. or they are just fed up with tourists pointing cameras at them - and then not buying anything .

I have never seen any Thai pick up their dogs shit let alone clean up soi/feral dogshit so do you see him pick up the mess from his dogs?. In a few days the mess is gone anyway because of beetles and ants etc so if it's waste land why worry?. I walk my dogs on the beach and would pick up the mess if I saw any Thai do the same but I do cover it in sand and again it's probably gone in a few days due to the crabs but if they don't care about all their rubbish on the beach why should I worry about what my dogs do?. I haven't seen a single dog owned by a Thai with the rabies inoculated disk hanging from the collar. Also if the Thai people love their dogs so much why do they dump them on the beach all year round where we live?.
in bangkok i see thais pick up their dog's poo most of the time. i'd say the non-pick up ratio is similar to back home.

30 contact hours a week is a lot, you also have to take into account, depending on you experience, lesson planning and prep time. the money is on the low side but if you dont have an expensive lifestyle maybe that doesn't bother you.

i've travelled to over 50 countries, i spent 2.5 years backpacking round the world using land borders wherever possible. the only place i've had any problem was leaving pakistan to enter india where the IO made a half hearted attempt to get me to pay a bribe. i played dumb and he let me through.
i've never had or seen anything but professional behaviour from thai IOs

i'm on a (fairly successful so far) mission to stop all my friend's children from using this response and and say 'i'm very well thank you, and how are you?' instead, and thus ensure they sound more intelligent and interesting and less robotic than 90% of thai english speakers

i'm not sure it, technically, thailand is a third world country, but for sure they could do with education about behaving in a more environmentally friendly way beyond saying; 'save the world' and thinking that's all that is required.

The court decision is about condos because the cases brought to court were about condos. It does not necessarily mean that the law cited in the court decision does no also apply to other types of residential premises. Perhaps someone can look up the law and post the relevant section here (I have to rush off now to a dentist appointment)
so the headline and article are misleading? is it just a cut and paste job with no value added by the OP?

When I took the now wife to Australia it involved more than just holiday money to get a tourist visa. It wasn't hard to do.....just had to be done right.
Its not about the money.
right. it's about being open and honest. i have many friends who regularly travel abroad alone and with their families - non has ever been refused a tourist visa. sometimes i check their visa application forms, they are all completely honest; no padded bank accounts, no false claims, no agents - it's not had to apply for a visa, and they state the genuine reason why they will return to thailand; to continue their studies, work, family etc. if immigration smell a rat anywhere in the application i agree they should turn it down, too many people have abused the system.

if this isn't a troll post, unlikely, then, OP, you dont seem to have much experience of thailand all common sense says stay away from this.
...why are you so impressed that she doenst ask you for money? in all the years i've been in thailand i've never dated anyone who wanted money from me.

Cost wise, if that is just build you were ripped off.
what is wrong with people here? if you can't say something positive, constructive or pleasant then dont say anything.
it looks like a great house, if the quality is as good as it looks i'd pay 1 mb. you're buying a lifestyle, a quality of life, not an investment.

Home to some the world's best beaches (sic)
is this actually true? i've travelled round thailand and i've never seen any beach to match those i've seen in australia, never mind the rest of the world.
OP, could you provide evidence that that thailand has not one but 'some' of the best beaches in the world? and where are they?

I am not a farmer but what you say seems to make sense. But I recall a related story about a year ago where someone made the claim that organic certification could be easily purchased under the counter at the appropriate Ministry. Thailand being Thailand I don't doubt that for one minute.
i'd be happy to pay more for organic food, as i do back home. unfortunately in thailand there is just too much corruption and shenanagins to trust the efficacy of organic claims.
