Surely, I do agree that the little girl is the victim, but why her parents allow her to play outside without any preconditions. If what happen if the girl fall into the river? So we blame the river? or what happen if she went up a tree and fall down? And we blame the tree? many many things can be happening, shouldn't her parents also need to be responsible? That's why I said " Both ". The owner of the dog also need to keep or lock to ensure that his dog can't come out from the house when they are not at home, nothing wrong with the dog and little girl.

    Sad so.

Should a 3 year old be left alone in the first place? Ignorant parents. No excuse for a dog attack though. Also it is possible the little girl bit the dog first as little ones tend to bite while teething.

Bad parental care in my eyes.

However I do wish her a good recovery.

Another far left comment to counter the hang em high mob.

Is there enough people left in the middle to make this a better world?

Since Uber's basic business model is to exploit people in precarious economic situations, duping them into thinking they're making decent money

I haven't used Uber more than half a dozen times, but I always make it a point to ask the driver how he likes uber and is he making good money. All have replied happy and good. It might not be something I read somewhere but I got the information first hand. Maybe after using it a hundred times I'll find a few who agree with you.

    enjoy your day.

Amora Hotel is Ladyboy central, but over the years, they have extended all the way down to the SE corner of the moat.  Much more prevalent outside the moat, than inside.

Yes. Can confirm the SE corner is the place for such extravagances. This is what I hear from others of course.

Can Uber drop off at the airports , and is there a risk of violence if other taxi drivers realise that it's an Uber car ? Thanks. I remember when drivers in Phuket attacked the first new bus service a long while back !

Short answer, Yes. Don't know about violence but a couple of taxi drivers were voicing their disapproval to each other as I was getting into an Uber car outside a hotel in Sathon on the weekend.

  6. Just used Uber for the first time on the weekend. Caught a Taxi Meter from Phetchaburi Road to Lumpini Park. After half an hour of twist and turns I look at the GPS on my Iphone and find that the driver is going in the opposite direction. After a short discussion with the driver he tells me it is not his fault. He has just woken up from being drunk and is not thinking straight. He dropped me and the missus off on the side of an expressway. The missus was getting worried what to do. Opened up the Uber app and had a car there within 10 Minutes. Clean car, courteous driver and took us exactly to where we wanted go directly. Used Uber three more times that weekend. Got me.

  7. I'm in the process of applying for an Australian Partners Visa for my lady of four years. This is an Onshore application. We are well down the track of all the requirements and documentation required but still have two or three things to do.

One of those things is a Police Check for her.

We are going to be in Bangkok next month for a family visit so thought we would visit the  appropriate office on Rama 1 while there and get the ball rolling on the Police Check for the lady.

I'm sure many have had to get this check done and maybe things didn't go as expected. I would like to be prepared.  Any experiences or advice would be welcome.

    This is posturing.

The police were not inept or clueless. One side in this battle over assets and power was saying to the other side, "Look, we were able to obtain a search warrant and search the house of your spokesman's family and you were not able to pull strings to stop it. Next time we will hit harder. Come to the table and compromise. Give us something we want. We are more powerful than you."

This was a threat, a choreographed display of power, not a real attempt to arrest anybody.

Thais would never knowingly lose face like this, major very red ones and some inactive posts coming up from another cock up related to this case alone.

Seriously? This case and the ongoing saga of the Wat raid are merely the result of total and endemic incompetence in the Thai police, and not even the slightest hint of collusion and corruption?  Hard to believe that any police force, even in the third world, could be such a joke. But then they have had a lot of practice.

I think that something a bit more than obvious ineptness is going on here. Briggsy makes sense to me.

There are little things that I understand about Thailand, but issues like this are far beyond me to understand everything at play.

    Jspill - here is a quick breakdown of what a quality guy you are for Thailand;

    600 days overstay - illegal

smokes cannabis regularly, (your words from another thread) - illegal

Working on a tourist visa or visa exempt - illegal

and of course, not paying income tax on your earnings that you earn while YOU are in Thailand.

Oh yes Jspill, you are a paragon of virtue and abiding the law !

    Love this theater. Such spice.

Whilst I agree with the points you made, may I add that, IMO, there may be another factor at work.

I think that many full time foreigners do not have a sufficiently wide social circle of compatible people.

They do not have enough opportunity to have deep meaningful conversations in their natural language and become unbearably frustrated over time.

Then they seem to use TVF as a place to vent their frustration and/or get the attention they seek.

When I first joined TVF I was appalled at many of the posts and said so in my replies.

Old hands suggested that in time, I would get used to them.

How true, I seldom get wound up by troll posts nowadays.

If it were not for the helpful info which is provided on TVF by it's members, many of us would lost in the mine field of bureaucracy which is so difficult to comprehend.

Especially when it is written in such a difficult to understand language like Thai.

To have others share their experience and knowledge is a great blessing.

I like the trolls, the forum is a mirror of everyday life. Mostly good people and a few cockroaches. They keep me in touch with how not to think.

  11. I own (freehold) a ground floor condo that is used as a shop/business

    So you have Thai Citizenship?

Not a really useful answer to the OP's question.

Why is Thai citizenship relevant? No I am not a Thai national but as stated I own the condo.

Why is my answer not useful to the OPs question? It might be useful in that it gives him information as to a way he can own a freehold shop.

So you transformed your condo into a shop? Is this legal?

    What am I missing here?

On the ground floor of the block my condo is in are shops. The manager tells me that as a farange I can buy one. As far as running a business out of it, not sure.

    For what it's worth.

  12. My Thai wife once berated me for tipping at a restaurant. Her opinion was they were already making money and if I want to give my money away I should give it to a disabled person sitting on the footpath who can't work.

  13. This has to be a set up

Who is the idiot who writes this stuff?

The Fijians & Thai ladies just do it

Or the desperate new owners of TV

    Why desperate..........?

Usually when a business changes hands, the new owners are expected to increase profits. But what do I know.....

  14. Love this thread. Laughed a lot. Me and mine have a great relationship, she has learnt the Aussie art of taking the piss out of someone very well.

The other day she was telling me how I should do a certain thing. I told her that I've been doing said thing for many years without a problem. She replied, "ok, you can do your way. I think maybe you like try better way. "

    Love her to bits

  15. Smart traveller, do not travel if the driver does not turn on the meter,

No home work done by either passengers , as the first trip by one of them to Thailand,

when i travel i read about where i am going , what not to do what is the custom etc

reading about scams here in Thailand are numerous ,

i think the two travellers are lazy and one of them is not a very shrewd business man.

    Such a wit.
