  1. Been saying this for years, after working closely with Thailand hospitals - they over subscribe drugs purely for profit.

if you get a cold they will give you a concoction of 4 different coloured pills, usually cheap generic brand name pills in a plastic bag with some unfathomable writing on them in byro.

These little pills when you have to pay for them will often cost 5 times more than the local pharamacy charges, and you have very little you can do or say to get out of paying for them, because you have no idea what it is they they are, if you are lucky a good hospital with have the name in english but unless you are going to challenge the doctor during a consult as to what exactly he is giving you - expect to get ripped off....

Seriously, watch what you are given in Thai hospitals...

  2. The ASEAN wont affect Thailand at all...
    Its just a publicity stunt
Thailand has already released a paper on what jobs will be open to neighbouring countries.
And most of them wont be worth applying for. like accountants?
I mean seriously what is a filipino accountant going to do in Thailand when they haven't been accredited or passed any Thai exams and cant read Thai?
Its a farce... Just the same as now but with ribbons on.

  3. The rice scheme for the last 2 years has long been costing the country money, now its confirmed under the Junta just how much. I mean seriously how long will rice actually last if its in a hot humid damp climate? on a scale that big do they expect to keep it in aircon sealed premises>The idea itself was retarded and has put Thailand in a world of debt not to mention it pissed of Vietnam and neigbouring countries as Thailand tried to manipulate the cost of rise on a global scale.
Som Nam nah to the reds...

  4. i've worked in medical tourism before - i can tell you some horrific stories about what goes on here in Thailand.
seriously people should think long and hard before they risk going under a general anaesthetic in a clinic, at the very least a hospital should be chosen.
One of the most important aspects before having surgery is to know WHO the anaesthetist is as they play a vital role in keeping the patient alive during surgery.
However they dont come cheap, and its the doctors job to pay them a % of the surgery cost.
Normally doctors in Thailand can rent a private hospital room, and an anaesthetist that works in the hospital - but its costs money.
So for the doctors to make more money they open clinics and hire their own staff - more than likely they never had an one or he was doing it himself.

Major surgery even at home has so many risks and complications that can happen, doing it abroad whilst on holiday where no one has a clue about your past medical history needs to be considered long and hard.

  5. yes its true - unfortunately Thais look down on Indian and African - its certainly a racist country and they will quite often admit to it.
Sometimes i know Thais dont like the above because they say they are rude. which in some cases could be because sometimes speaking loud to Thais is considered rude.
I dont know for sure, but one thing is that Thais are not very educated in worldly matters and are incredibly xenophobic, so just ignore it or suffer in silence. it pays to have a thick skin in Thailand.

The white chinese are racist towards the daker skinned isaaan girls, then they in turn are racist towards african or indian - LOL - they just don't get Karma here do they?

  6. dont think about it too much - the men get harassed here too its not just us girls.
I think a lot of the time the Thais dont mean it to be harassment, they are just a bit rude by nature.
Take for example, if someone is fat they will call them fat in front on all their friends family and public.
They just have a lot less tact than we are used too.
If they say something nice even if it can feel derogatory, just let it go as being nice...
You will never blend in here - so the art of detachment is important.
