Well it really looked for a while this afternoon like we were going to get a real downpour... I thought this was it ,,,,, the severe thunderstorms that were supposed to hit between Monday and Thursday.... but.... nada, zilch not a drop - o...

Did any in any of the surrounding areas get any rain this afternoon /// ???

CM - Lampun Rd going south along the river , right at the turn in to the old Rimping SS , from there south had been closed for

Sunday and Monday..... I was told that it was closed pat Gymkana Club .... Don't know about today, but it got me two times... Real mess

Just a guess, from an old bureaucrat here: if one set of regulations is too difficult to enforce or for the staff to comprehend, find some far easier excuse to say no to the clients, especially to those clients (perpetual 'tourists') who aren't paying anything to our agency.

Ah, so these folks have no visa issued by the MFA staff, and they have stamps in their passport that show they've been in Thailand a lot. Let's see, to whom do we give stamps for entry without a visa? To real tourists. Okay, real tourists should have a flight out of Thailand...voila, no counting of days, no counting of visa-free stamps.

All behaviour is caused. Governments do things for a reason. Do you see that the staff at the border crossings is greatly increased? Do they have time to count days, or stamps? Nope. Are they bright enough to recognize a squatter (an illegal resident who pretends to be a tourist) just by glancing through a passport? Yep.

With all due sympathy to those who cannot get real visas: you are in a bind. You are between a rock and your home country. If I were a second-level boss at a border crossing, without increased funds or staff, I'd cut down on the workload for my staff. Perpetual 'tourists' would soon learn not to cross at my bridge. Especially if my boss's boss hinted down the chain of command that we had to make do with the staff we have, and how to do it.

I agree with the temple to refuse from the sale of those pictures, if these people were sincere in doing charity, there're tons of other ways to do that. At the end of the day, those stars who are featured nud_e in the pics are the one who are going to get a lot of attention. I doubt the sincerity of these stars to pose nud_e for charity, they are just going for more publicity for themselves.

Accepted...... but so what???? they are in it for the publicity, the money and if some good can come for others..... who am I too judge....

this news about the rebranding was announced towards the end of last year?

anyway they have more competition coming online soon with 2 hotels in locations within walking distance of the NM.

whats is all the expansion of hotels all about in CM? Obviously they know more about future tourist inflows in CM than we do or was it part of the grand plan from thaksin of CM being the tourist hub of Thailand. With a brand new extention at the CM international, there must be something going on?

perhaps the tourists will be coming for the seasonal magic show of Doi Suthep during feb/march....... now you see it ,now you dont....

I somehow get the feeling that the owners of all of these new hotels and jumbo projects , like the now defunct convention center, were palsy walsy with the former government administration and were planning on making a killing with this being the hometown of the former leader..... they put big bucks into the starting of these projects knowing with Mr. T in the drivers seat that there would be lots of new and big things that he would be putting into his hometown to make a name and $$$$$ for himself...... they went along for and with the ride not thinking that the bubble would break after they committed and jumped in...... once the big man fell out of grace and power , there was no way they could back out as they were years and millions of $$$$ into the game....... so now we wait and see

Its only occupants would appear to be [if this place wasn't there] the almost homeless..... very nice looking place it would have been in its day.... but now many dogs and a few samlor drivers , and some poor souls are the only ones there..... with the possible exception of a few 'haints'...

Maybe the name has been changed to another, and someone else will have that information.... I note that the article is dated October 2002, so maybe it has been redone..

From the photos it does look as if it is close enough to the river to be affected by the flooding, so that would narrow it down somewhat....

If someone does not post more on the place, I am now just curious enough to go out and try and find the place here in the next couple days.

This sounds like and looks like it may be somewhere near "The Dukes" place..... If so, some of the other prolific posters in that thread may be able to give more imput.

Shame that the writer of the article did not write of the address and/or give a phone number or contact info.

I live by the river and not to far from the Riverside Restaurant if thats what you are referring to, and have for years, but I have never heard of this guest house..... or anything that may be like that phonetically..

Maybe a somewhat related question to satellite and/or Dynasat from an old timer whose computer knowledge is really limited. With the correct hardware and using Dynasat and their dish, I can download data and convert it to TV programs...... Is there hardware and are there programs where I can do the same for internet connecting.....making it possible to tell Loxley, TOT, TTT, where they can put their service...

I know who Scottish John is, although not a mate, I'm a bit worried that something may have happened to him. He's a fellow farang trying to get by here and deserves a little bit of support from his kin.

While most of what you wrote above has some threads to the truth, I would probably say that John is away [out of the country] as his own decision and alive and well..... I have been told that he is attending to family, whose health is not the best.....

I still get the feeling that some people are referring to "David" [not West] and his brother as owner.....

It is my understanding that this David and his Brother Morris...... have not had an interest in several years....

Even before David and Morris there was an owner named David West..... this was the time when it was called "Domino"

It is further my understanding that the most recent owner was one John W. , a Scotsman.....

I also think that the most recent troubles at True Blue happened to him, but if one is referring to tragedy that befell the owner, they may be referring to the previous owner loosing his wife, and that I think was David , of David and Morris.....

Did anyone read, or hear about a Thai guy [young about 20] being shot off his motorcycle yesterday morning, by the East end of the Rama IX [Rattanakosin] Bridge??? Dead in the street.... Gunman unknown....

This is close enough for me to hear, but I saw, read or heard nothing.....

Where are the City Busses ?

When the city first started the bus system about a year ago , I thought it was a great thing....yes they were not overly used in the beginning, but there was not a great public relations push and any great amount of promotion...

But as time went on, I noticed that more and more people were using the system....The buses were pretty much on a every 15 minute schedule and as folks started to become aware of and rely on the system, public use grew...

Then some genius got the great idea of playing with the system, the routes, the timing and no one knew when or if the buses would come. Various route changes where put into play, different number buses were on the same route adding to the confusion...

The Flora Expo really added confusion with schedules and routes.....

Now , on the particular section of what is supposed to be route NO. 2, between the Nakornping and Rama IX bridges on Thanon Charoenrat , I haven't seen a single bus for several days.

Has the city stopped the bus program or are the red bus drivers back in control, only now with big A/C buses and go where the customer wishes. ???

For any bus program , even the Thai Bus Director's brain must ackknowledge that it will take time for the program to catch on and only if the user can rely on the schedule and system.....

Stop playing with the program ...... give it a chance to work.... of no one will even think of taking the bus at all
