  1. Thank you Brewsterbudgen, I was curious to know what the latest was regarding the reopening after hearing about it just a few hours ago from my Thai wife. Couldn't find out hardly anything on the internet. Then after translating Thai news and then seeing Richard Barrows tweet I thought I can't be the only one who doesn't know the latest. So I thought I'd let everyone know here in this post. I'm retired and living out here with my wife and son. Must be difficult for teachers out here trying to earn a living especially now finding out they don't start back on Monday. I guess they can try working online too.

  2. The Ministry of Education (MOE) has issued an announcement "postponing the semester" or opening the semester 2021 from June 1 to another date on June 14, 2021 by reasoning that For the maximum safety of students, teachers, parents

But at the same time, the announcement of the Ministry of Education It also states that schools or educational institutions in the highest control area (red) and control area (orange) if you want to start the semester first, you can do so by having to pass the readiness assessment criteria of the Ministry of Health and the Provincial Communicable Disease Committee. The highest and strict control area (dark red) in 4 provinces, Bangkok-Nonthaburi-Pathum Thani-Samut Prakan. Teach online-on-air only

Until the time before June 14, 2021, which will be due to open the semester according to the announcement of the MOE. On the other hand, it was found that some provinces Some schools have started to gradually announce that the semester has been postponed.

Richard Barrow has just tweeted this about the subject.

If it's anything like getting a Medical Certificate for a WP or a driver's license, 400 baht at the local clinic should solve his problems for 30 days at a time.

Here's what it says you need to get a unfit to fly certificate from the hospital.

    If you are suffering from:

    • Chest pain, pneumothorax, or a severe chronic respiratory disease
    • Severe sinus, ear, or nose infection
    • Any disease that you can easily spread to other people
    • A fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or greater
    • Swelling of the brain caused by bleeding, injury, or infection
    • Sickle cell disease
    • Uncontrolled psychotic illness

does your country show the same courtesy to tourists and expired visa holders presently?

Yes it does. Quote - If you intend to leave the UK but have not been able to do so and you have a visa or leave that expires between 1 September and 31 October 2020 you may request additional time to stay, also known as ‘exceptional assurance’

  5. I applied on the 8th September and received my Visa Extension letter about an hour ago.

Visa Extension - Name - DOB - Passport Number

The British Embassy in Bangkok thanks the Department of immigration Thailand.

We have been informed that Name arrived in Thailand on date and that their plans is to obtain the correct visa to stay but have been disrupted by the Covid 19 outbreak. The British Embassy would be thankful if Immigration could help this poor chap out. Blah, blah, blah....

I don't want to write it word for word as someone might you know...

Anyways the letter is stamped and dated.

What did I write in the email?

I was just honest. Got until 26th September. Hardly any cash in the bank. Can't afford to fly and return. Family to take care of. Had no income for 4 months due to Covid 19, Just need 1 more month to sort out my family visa. Maybe the anxiety might have influenced my email tales of woe, but these are hard times. A little begging is needed now and again.

So that's a night of relief and tomorrows and next weeks jumping through hoops of fire begin. Gosh how things have changed in Bangkok. I remember the days where you sorted all this <deleted> out in a bar in Patpong. What a fuss and hassle things are these days.

Extend for 60 days for purpose of visiting wife whilst you season the 400K, for your 12 month extension.

That's what they might tell her.

Good idea, but I have an even better solution. I'm going to immigration to apply for a 60 day extension, (thai child) on visa exempt. I have a 14 year old son and as far as I know all I need to take with me are :-

    • Original birth certificate plus signed copy.
    • Signed copies of the child's Tabien Baan.
    • Signed copies of your passport pages: ID page, visa, entry stamp, departure card.
    • 1 x photo 6 x 4.
    • Maybe a TM30 completed by the owner/house-master of the address you live at.
    • 1,900 baht.

I've been scouring the internet all afternoon looking for a solution and bingo, at last a way out. Hope this information helps others who have children out here.

Night all, time for a beer.

You mentioned a Thai-Child.  You can get a 60-day extension for this - but will let someone else explain exactly what is needed (generally), for this - possibly more than just name on the Birth-Cert.

@Wilsonandson - You are in the same boat with many of us who are here on Non-O Visa entries.  We have no way to get another visa, and have no news as to what will happen July 31.  My plan is to go to Turkey (the closest place I can enter), if another option is not made available.

If you have not used your 60-day extension for visiting your wife, you could apply for that before July 31.  If you have 400K "in the bank" during that 60-days, you could then apply for a 1-year extension.

If you already used your 60-day extension, and it has expired, another option is to pay an agent a large sum (approx $1100 in Bangkok) to arrange a 1-year Non-O (family-based) extension.  If not working here and over 50, you could go for a 1-year Non-O based on retirement, for "only" about 20K Baht in Bangkok, or possibly ~12K or so at Jomtien.

@bluesky1234577 - Reports indicate 30K Baht or so through an agent for immigration is needed, for them to do what is perfectly legal - issue a new Non-Immigrant permitted-stay for a different reason than your last one, if provided with supporting-paperwork for the new type.

They put this service in the "only with agent-money for me" category, along with various other circumstances - which forces many of us to travel to Thai Consulates, where we can deal with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, instead of very-corrupt immigration.

Can you message me some details on how to contact the agent in Bangkok to arrange a 1-year Non-O (family-based) extension.

    Cheers

    My answers would be :

    A/  NO

B/ Flights to many places already, you can fly out anytime you want.  But destinations are not all.

C/ Nearby countries are mostly in lockdown, you will have to fly somewhere thats open, like EU, Turkey, Dubai, USA, Korea etc..

D/ Yes, but you need a COE before you can board the flight.  COE will only issued in your home country and only if you married to a Thai or have a work permit etc...

    E/ YES

At this stage you have probably given up................. so no point in F and G.

    Yes, I've given up!

Going to try one more option - Send the wife to immigration next week and get her to ask them what to do?

It's impossible to fly to neighboring countries in East Asia just to get a visa as most countries are off-limits to short-term foreigners.

The only options for you guys is to fly back to the country of your citizenship and then apply to come back in again. Definitely not from Laos or Malaysia.

I disagree. I've spent 16 years in Thailand and have never had to return to my home country. I am married to a Thai for 14 years and have a 14 year old son. Why should I be forced to go home to get a visa?

  11. Thank goodness for Thaivisa Forum. It's nice to find out that I'm not the only one worried about the visa amnesty ending. The biggest concerns for me are:-

    a) On July 31st - Will the land borders be open to cross?

    b) If land borders are closed - Will there be flights to nearby countries, or will they be fully booked?

    c) If I manage to get a flight to a nearby country are the Thai Embassies open for business there? I want a non imm O visa.

    d) When I fly back in to Bangkok - Do I need to spend 2 weeks in quarantine? How much is that?

    e) Do I need any special health insurance, covid 19 test, fit to fly certificate for flying out and back in?

    f) What is the cost of all this just to get a 90 day visa?

    g) Is there a cheap option?

You can cross Savannakhet off your list of options, as Laos borders are still closed to all but a very select few....

dont know about your other options though.

You may be right, and it may be open then, but it is not a given.

    Can you fly there?

If so, Is the Thai Embassy open presently?

    I would like a non-imm O visa.

If it's possible to get one and I fly back to Bangkok, will I have to go through 2 weeks of quarantine?

    Anyone know?

I'm sure that next week they'll shut all the borders but if they don't a VOA is now my last option or the extension at the immigration office.

  14. VIENTIANE, Laos – Unlike the previous months, the Thai-Lao border in Nongkhai, Thailand is not as packed with people from various countries doing visa runs.

Earlier, Laos has closed its four immigration checkpoints in Nakhon Phanom Muang Khob in Sayaboury province in Laos bordering Thailand’s Phayao Province.

On March 19, Laos suspended all types of visas to foreign tourists including ASEAN countries effective midnight of March 20 until April 20.

The border closing has been affecting Filipinos and other migrant workers seeking visas either for work or tourism in Thailand.

Usually, foreigners seeking to work in Thailand apply for a visa at the Thai Consular Office in Laos or in Savannakhet.

I'd just like to add that what if the place where you are travelling for instance Laos, Savannakhet doesn't do Covid-19 tests for foreigners? So is it just like some have mentioned a travel ban after all? There's no way of getting the required documents to get back into Thailand.

Answering myself I found out some information posted in

    https://laotiantimes.com/2020/03/17/testing-for-covid-19-in-laos/

    Quote

Where can I be tested for COVID-19 in Laos?
Mahosot Hospital, 103 Hospital, and Mittaphab (150 Bed) Hospital, and Setthathirath Hospital. Both are in Vientiane City.

How long does the test take?
After taking a blood sample, nasal swab, and throat swab, the results will be ready within 24 hours.

    Is the test free?
The test is free for those who meet the testing criteria.

Read the news article for more info. It's a way of meeting the new Thai regulations but you will need to travel around a bit if u go into Laos through another border check point not Vientianne/Nong Khai.

So if I'm travelling to Laos for a visa from Thailand, I should then get tested in Laos for COV-19 and then head back into Thailand with the results which could take 2 days to get. Before I leave Thailand sort out some insurance of $100,000 coverage for health insurance. Is that what this means?
