  1. I am on annual extensions (Non O) since 2014. I have been in USA since early Sep for medical care and plan to return to TH in early Nov.

My permission to stay terminates in early Feb. My stay will  be less than 90 days but I assume I still need to file a TM30 with local office even though I still have the same residence.

    1.  Will I be challenged for proof of insurance upon arrival at BKK?

I will most likely not apply for another extension, I'm 70yo and most of the pleasant things I know of TH are seriously waning.

     2.  If I apply for a short stay ( TR ME or what may later exist ) in the US and come again, can I expect some IO observing my past as living in Thailand ( although I only spent about 6 months annually in country)  and defy entry?

Question #1 is my primary question.

    Thanks in advance

  2. I have an O A with retirement extensions (several) which is 12/Anymonth/ 2020 and have a ticket to leave on he same day, the 12th.  Passport  stamp states "until".  12th.  Does this mean after the 12th or the 11th.  I do not expect to request another extension and do not wish to have any issue leaving BKK.  The reason I cut it so tight is the flight costs to USA vary and it was about $400 cheaper (times 2).  Anyone have a similar situation or best to UBJoe.   Thanks in advance.

  3. I have been out of Thailand for several months, have a OA visa with multiple extensions for retirement (USA citizen).  I have option to use extension for marriage but didn't like the extra paperwork.  Do not wish to put much cash into Thai banks, thus 65000 baht monthly seams reasonable., assuming  Problem is maybe I have now deposited anything in Bangkok bank, thinking I might I might have to remain in USA for health issues, now fine.  My renewal for extension in Jan 2020.  Is there some reference to how many months the 65000 monthly must be continuous?  I'm sure this has been covered  but the mass amount of info makes it dif to find.  (thx UBJoe)

  4. I have a non O and I am on an ext of stay for Ret. 'went back to USA for business for about 45 days.   Plan was to return and family friend would accompany me to do update on residence at IM off.  She bought a new house and sold the old one, so to resolve she leased a place in her name with my funds.

With her name on the contract can she still do reporting of my stay (as housemaster)?

Even if she could I would have to fix this before annual extension time, correct?

Resolving this may take a bit of time, getting contract name of renter changed, etc.

When I last met with the IM officer he told me I didn't need to come in until return date plus 90 days, but I assume that's overcome my these events, correct?

If someone can see thru irrelevant facts and have some good advice (UBON JOE) I will be appreciative.

  5. I rent my residence in LOS, often same house for varying period of time and occasionally return to the USA-then-LOS while my rental is still active.  I never spend over 88 days in LOS so I never require a 90day report.  I returned via BKK recently, spent 1 night in hotel and reported to my IMO in under 24 hrs, to report new address and submit a report of alien stay for my landlord. I also had re-rented, with new contract for 88 days.  While making my change of address I asked for my original contract back; the IMO agreed then told me that I had to have a "new 1 yr contract" when I made my next 90day report.  I explained that I planned to renew my req for extension of permission to stay (about 30 days ((conveniently)) before  a 90 day report is required and then I would be in the USA 1-3 months after that.

My friendly IMO seemed to think this all thru and then said I "would have to have a new contract because the extension was for 1 Yr ".  I am in hopes that this is just another event where the IMO was making up rules, realized the box she was in, and just attempting to save face with this encounter.  I have about 50 days to either forget the extension or cough up for a 1 year rental.  Has anyone else heard of this requirement?         Thanks

  6. All,  Thanks to UBJ and all other respondees; info/comments are helpful.  And, yes kudos to KK IMO, a very prof and efficient IMO.

Not to disagree with BarnicaleBob but I have returned several years after multi months absence and never "checked in" with them upon return.  If my memory serves correct when I processed in thru BKK last time they stamped 'my next 90day report  date' was due in 90 days from entry date.  We all know that each IMO can adjust the rules but who knows...maybe because my old residence in the system was the same as the one on my new arrival card.

  7.  I am on a OA visa with reirement extension for several years past, USA citizen, and I have a regularly used landlord/address in Khon Kaen.  I will return later this year from extended absense (yes, I have re-entry permit) but instead of going direct to KK I plan to spend about a month in Cha Am using hotel accomodations.  I will  apply for extension about 30-50 days following re-entry in KK.  Am I on a correct track to: 1. use my "traveling address" on my re-entry card and then continuing with routine ext application process   or  2. using my "permanent address in KK" on the re-entry card, continuing on the short term coastal vacation mode (where they will report me as occupant in hotel)  and then on to the re-entry process.

I am 'all legal first' and Thai wife will accompany me throughout all travels US and Thai.  BTW I spend 6-8 months in Th some years and more in the USA others. So if there is a better track please advise.

    Ubon Joe, if avail.

  8. 'went in 1 week ago; have never had any problems and expected none. But, as I needed an annual extension-based-on-retirement and a re-entry and I had all of the few things needed ready, not quite as I expected. Just after getting into que, about 3 spots down, I noticed the waiting room was somewhat full. It turned out that all the upper level IMOs were called into some 'honcho meeting' and after being processed and paying, then told to please wait, about 2hrs later they bosses came back and I got my passport back, all done. Mark it up to a fluke--again, never any issue there, but just not my day. Note, my only IMO experience was with Hua Hinn and they were very accommodating as well. "Thumbs up" to both offices.

  9. Similar situationl in KKaen but there I had to go to the motor vehicle office and get a form, take it for certification at the Imm office and then back to the vehicle place. Then, they gave me a 2 year cycle liscense--BUT, it clearly says TEMPORARY on it.

There was no issue about a I-O visa, extension, as I'm no tourist.

I think they just run the mcycle program differently; in any event I guess they did what they think is correct. BTW, no change in the auto registration same week from temp to regular.

  10. All the OP has to do is take his own plastic bags, hemp sacks, or whatever he'd prefer, and tell the 7-11 staff to put his items in it.

In places like Australia, when you go to the bottle shop, they don't give out any plastic bags at all. If they have any spare, you might get a dirty old cardboard box, or you might have to carry the goods around with nothing to put them in. Add to that the sky rocketing cost of electricity, so as to subsidise all those unproductive wind farms, showers that emit tiny jets of water, half-flushing toilets, horrid fluorescent light bulbs, etc, etc.

I'm glad that the tree-hugging eco-nazis that rule over us in the west haven't got their way here, yet.

Careless people like you are the reason "Eco Nazis" are required in today's world.

Did you know that the largest percentage of plastic garbage floating in the Pacific Ocean comes from SE Asia?...and there is a huge island of it out there.

put up signs for the polar bears to go float on it.

  11. I got a res cert from HH IMO early 2015; easy, just asked for it, but that was before they stopped charging B500 for them.

Now living in Khon Kaen , and needing a driv lisc renewal I went to that IMO and asked for a res cert. But, they didn't give me one.

BTW, for a drivers lic in KK: They seemed to use another procedure. I had to go to the Lisc bureau and present credentials, receive a form (without numbers that I can remember) and return to the IMO where they certified the new document with a stamped picture of me. Then, I had to return to the DL bureau where they processed me as normal.

The whole process was not difficult, just different and more running around the town.

  12. I went into KK IMO today to get a res certificate and was told to go to DOT "for the form". The even opened a crutch-book with example ( lots of help, I couldn't read a word of it). Gave up and went to the DOT, a madhouse-farm to say the least, but after several attempts they gave a "form" and sent me back to the IMO. There were another couple of expats with same/similar requirements, liscense renewals and motorcycle sale, there but they were off to the 2-3 hr fiasco at DOT so I assumed it was a new process. The IMO them gave another form letter, no TOR MOR number, but very official with real sig and red stamp, and wished me out of their hair.

Tomorrow I'm off to a small nearby ampur, avoiding KK DOT if possible.

I apologize for this incomplete post but I want to at least give a heads up for others. BTW my lisc was a auto renewal and new cycle one both but that seemed not to matter.

  13. I have a temp Thai DL for car that expires next month.I also need a MCycle lisc. also.

When I go in for renewal of car version, will I have to produce the res cert plus copies etc all over again? Also will I need a new med cert?"

I have a current USA and Intl lisc for both car and cycle. ( I should have gotten both last year but my intl was front copy only, meet dummy, but all is in hand now)

I'll be making application in Khon Kaen doing this if anybody has a tip on recent activity there.

  14. thanks, now I need to decide if I'm going to mail with the $6 tracking envelopes both ways, what USPS told me is that the $20 envelopes are "guaranteed" or your money back 2 days, whereas the $6 are "2-3 days" but no guaranteed.

    2)

the LA consulate seems vague on how many passport photos they want too, the voicemail says 2 , but the webpage says 4 , hmmm

    3)

    and am not real clear on if any old notary designation will do or is there some special way of doing the notarizing as "certified copies" whatever that means;

not I "notarized" all 4 copies, or just 1 print out, then copy that 4 times ?

    4)

do I have a copy of my passport page notarized ; etc

    5)

funny there is NO mention of notarizing on their website I guess

    http://www.thaiconsulatela.org/service_visa_detail.aspx?link_id=48#

    6)

lastly they say no metered stamps on the SAE, and to apply stamps on the express mail envelope for some reason ........on their voicemail

    1. common man, you surely don't intend to risk loss of you invested work and docs for saving a few bucks. I have sent to those folks from USA address mult times and everything is usually late (going and or coming) or lost for a week. Plus if your pkg is even one day late, they refund.

    2. with those guys in LA, always be conservative, i.e. extra "anything" if there is doubt. Their website is not their first priority, as is keeping down the stacks with reasonable accuracy my guess.

    3. and 5. pass, but my guess is anyone with a notary stamp/certification will know and annotate correctly.

    6. Just take it to the USPA and they will affix the correct postage with the correct process. Many of them have a special designation of 'passport center" or something like that. Even a small one in rural Texas I used once helped by reviewing my contents and sealing my package with return mailer enclosed for me with being asked.

btw, I could never get a telephonic answer from them but they do respond to email.

    GLuck

  15. Not sure what you have now. Do you have a one year extension of stay you applied for at immigration or a 90 day entry from a non-o visa.

If on a multiple entry non-o visa you could leave the country and get another 90 day entry as long as you do it just before your visa expires.

If you have an extension from immigration you could leave and re-enter the country at a border crossing to get a visa exempt entry If from a G7 country you would get a 30 day entry and if not 15 days but both can be extended for 30 days at an immigration office.

UBJ, Yes, I have an Ext of Stay but with a single entry remaining. I am G7 so that does give enough time. Lite Beer mentions a thai spouse, I do have with me but what document requirements does that generate? Thanks

  16. I am on extension to Non O (retirement) which expires 12 Oct. I don't think I need a further extension status as getting old and thus trip durations shorter: a TR or something else might be better. But my return ticket is 28 days after the expire date. ( located in Khon Kaen, no other complications, just want to minimize paperwork )

Best options on how to get that extra 30 days?
