How twisted the Russian culture has become under ex-KGB Putin. It now embraces its once archenemy Nazi Germany persecution of gays and lesbian. These people were treated as horrifically as were the Jews by the Nazis. As the free world's economic sanctions continue to choke the Russian economy, no doubt ego megamaniac Putin will sacrafice more people's human rights to protect his national unity. Might be a good time for expats in Russia to reconsider their long term stays.
Russia has historically been a very homophobic country. Partly because throughout its history there has never been an understanding of the value of an individual. It has always been some higher rationale that dictated them (and they happily agreed) to be serving the tzar, the communist idea, the Putin's idea of Russian world.... Sad.

Many long time residents and visitors notice how Thailand got worse over time.
Does anyone think rude slovenly culture-insensitive farangs might have contributed?

Small loans are typically more expensive since associated costs to the lender are higher.
If you think 36% is high - think about interest charged on your credit card debt.
I think many people will benefit - primarily those who have now no choice but loan sharks.

Seasons greetings from a has been- great news!
Still different from "has-never-been".

Clearly a made up story. There are no Thai prostitutes.
Indeed - as there are neither falang sex tourists.

Cinema as opposed to theater is by definition a more accessible form of art - so in any country behaviors at a cinema will differ from those at real theaters.
If someone believes ugly public behaviors to be Thai specific and insists on staying in this country - maybe they should consider going back or choosing another place to live.

"Certain items, if found to be authentic, might be returned their countries of origin".
"Might" rather worrisome.
Elgin marbles, anyone?

Years ago the beach chairs and umbrellas were controlled, and the renters only had a certain number. That didn't last long did it?it turned into an ugly chaos on all thai beaches!
Not all - on a visit in November I found beaches in Koh Samed a nice balance of services and space. I am sure there are many more like this. People here are mainly bitching about Phuket and Pty.

They'd never consider getting rid of the habitat by cleaning up the garbage.
They are trying in NYC - but still rat population there equals human population. But maybe farang rats are just smarter....
"...but still rat population there equals human population."
How can they tell the difference?
50% probability principle?

The Thai governmeng is correctm. Those people are illegal immigrants, and should be send back to their home country, what is China. They are etnic Turks, and Turky is the evil power in the background in the Uighurs etnicl conflict amd in other etnic conflicts in the old USSR teritories, because most of the new republics are etnic Turks. In short Turky is still an 100% old fashion Imperialistic state.
How may of the "new republics" are ethnic Turks? Out of 15 former USSR republics I counted 5 that are.
Back to OP - a shame Thailand treats potential refugees so harshly - but they do not stand much chance of being admitted by Turkey: governments are not prepared to admit ethnic and religious persecutions of Uighurs in China.

Any drug related arrest is a good thing.
Amd yes - of course these two are small fry - arrests of big guys happen very rarely - anywhere.
Drugs unfortunately are available everywhere - be it Phuket or Brighton.

Thailand introducing fingerprinting of arriving visitors is not a bad thing in itself.
Maybe it will be easier to deny entry to criminals and shady characters for whom the country has been a safe haven all long.

Any civilized society would impose heavy penalties on the parents who allow minors to work like this but in Thailand effectively no one cares that's why this continues so its not the fault of any German or other tourist that chooses to buy.
Thailand's "inferiority" to "civilized countries" has beed exposed ad nauseam by members of this forum. I understand majority here comes from those countries.
So being a "civilized" representative of a "civilized country" just, please, accept that the rose market is supported by you and the likes of you.
YOU do not buy roses, kids do not get money to give to gang leaders who do not have money to give to the police. In other words for corruption to happen someone needs to pay at the bottom of the pyramid. Farang's contribution to corruption in Thailand may not be the largest one but certainly not insignificant. You can think of other "industries" which involve corruption and are actively suported by farangs.

All 3 fell from the balcony from horseplay? Highly unlikely. Sounds like the hotel is covering up for a balcony collapse or break in the railing. Let's see if more comes from this over the next few days.
They were pushed over by a gang of Thais. So I heard

If you are unable to see that rapes occur over here as crimes of opportunity and //
Where did I say/show anything about that?
I just said that those who criticize should first have a closer look
at what happen in their own countries. They are far to be a haven.
In my country a woman can go out in the street without having a man by her side.
She can go to the store, she can go to look at property to puchase, and she can do so independently.
Obviously, this woman felt comfortable doing this in her own country.
This could be just a false impression of safety, alas...
According to Google & Wikipedia: Raped women/year:
- USA : ~200'000
- UK : ~85'000
- FR : ~75'000
And the populations of these countries vs Thailand are......................?
UK - 64 mln
Fr - 63 mln
Th - 67 mln
US - 314 mln
So. And those are "first world countries".

No. Thailand does not hold exclusive rights to crima against tourists.
Can happen anywhere.
I am amazed at people who have such negative genral attitudes towards Thailand and still frequent TV.
Masochism?
Whats amazing is you have been a member since yesterday and already "amazed" and knowledgable of those who frequent TV
One does not have to be a member to read the forum.

That their smiles are genuine....
Still way to go to get anywhere close to American ones IMHO

Thailand as any other country is interested in foreign investment.
At least they are not allowing sharia to govern relationships of their citizens as is the case of the home country of the biggest European financial hub.
And I am sure they will watch their landmarks to remain majority Thai owned.
