The Thai Land Traffic Act very closely resembles the British Highway Code.

In the British Highway Code the Amber light is an Instruction to stop before the line, if safe to do so.

Thus, if its wet and there's a HGV behind you - don't slam on the brakes, it's not safe to stop.

But, if you are not surrounded by traffic and the light turns amber with enough time to stop, you should stop.

I don't think its illegal to go through an Amber light in the UK.

However, the translation of the Thai Land Traffic act is not as clear... i.e. if you are doing 50kmh 5meters before the junction and the light turns to amber, it's impossible to stop, thus the fine could be harsh.

Depending on your speed in the photo you posted - it looks like you may have had time to stop on Amber.

Section 22 o the Land Traffic Act.

    Meaning of traffic light:

Green: the driver may drive the vehicle through

Yellow: the driver shall prepare to stop the vehicle behind the stop line. If the driver has passed the stop line when the traffic light turns yellow, he may go through.

Red: the driver shall stop the vehicle behind the stop line.

Amber means stop if it’s safe to do so in Aussie, so go through at your own risk.  In Thailand any traffic light is meaningless...... unless you get caught of course.

Note the guy who nonchalantly walks down the aisle between the seats, doubles back to get behind the guy for a sucker punch to head/neck.  FYI, if ever in an altercation, check sides and back immediately, as that is exactly how they will come at you.

    Yes, cowards will do that.

So when it went from 36.1 in 2009 to 28.7 in 2013 I'm guessing that was Bush's fault, yes?

Yellowtail, don’t expect to much financial commonsense here, if you have ever wondered where Democrat retire to, you now know its this forum.

  4. My first thought was Farangontour was a piss taker just wanting to stir up the forum, then I thought no, he might be a tad simple. Then I thought Farangontour says he is earning 100,000 THB per month in his home Country, however he will be lucky to scrape together half of that in Thailand with his limited intelligence. Mmm I suspect a decent handjob a couple of times a week in the massage parlour might be his best bet. Not as though there is anything wrong with that.????

    Always amusing.

In relationships all across the world where one partner has more money and potential earnings than the other its fairly normal to share some of that income.

If they cook, clean and often put your 'other' needs first that's got to be worth something, if they are not working, paying for some courses to improve their chances in the future may be a better option for both parties than cash, getting them working with their own income is optimal.

If you throw kids into the mix and they are also pretty much a full time nanny on top of everything else, you could sit down and work out the cost of a nanny and their own loss of working on top of that.

None of this sounds like customer to me but if you are not helping them plan for their own future its going to be a harsh reality when you step out of the picture and you would be doing more harm than good being in that relationship, unless you are 50/50 split sort of guy.

Alternatively be a customer, its a business arrangement and here its often a buyers market so choose wisely and within your budget, but do not kid yourself or her that its anything else or you are already down that fools path that will leave you with a harsh lesson and potentially penniless only to make the same mistake again if you get back into some dosh. If you lie to yourself now that its not a business relationship you will lie to yourself the next time again and again 'oh this one's different' hohoho.

In your case, the 50k number makes you a dead cert for the customer category, no doubts about it.

I have just returned from my first-ever week long trip to Vietnam. Hoi An via Danang.

I was just astounded by how cheap everything was, and Hoi An is a fairly popular tourist centre.

    - Cheap and plentiful METERED taxis (I am talking 40 baht for 6 Km), happy to do short distance or any length of trips. Polite drivers.

    - Cheap food and drink. Wine about same as HKT but local beer and cocktails even in top hotels about 70 Baht max. Outside, much less, about 30 - 40 baht up.

    - Happy hours (2 for 1 drinks everywhere)

    - Cheap hotels and sightseeing trips. Hotel standards exceptional in all departments. I stayed in 3 different classes of hotel. All excellent.

    - Standards of English from taxi drivers, waiters, hotel staff, people in street/market, shop assistants etc. universally truly excellent. I must say I did not expect that to be the case.

    - Beaches like Phuket 25 years ago (at least the smaller ones). Free loungers (not excessive in number) clean sand, and very cheap food and drink with service. Not busy. Toilets and showers at the back of the beach, and taxi stands.

    - Everyone I had interface with, incredibly polite and smiling, at all levels.

    - Only downside, old town full of coachloads of mainland Chinese down from Danang, all day and night. Just too many of them, but localised in the central old town/night market area. Traffic on street perhaps another drawback. Must be a nightmare in bigger cities.

Overall I was genuinely gobsmacked by how easy, cheap and friendly the place was. No longer the poor cousin to Phuket/ Thailand for mass tourism. Thai food has the edge of course as expected, but that's the only area I could honestly say that for. Will take time for other trips to more quieter southern beaches, and Phu Quoc. Can't wait.

Phuket will need to pull its socks way up. I am not holding my breath.

Been there and yes I agree with that statement. Note Hoi An is tourist central and still cheap, friendly and may I say clean.

Or.... the rear of the cistern came pre-broken, above the water fill up level (easily alterable), so no need to turn the water off

lol.... a bit of epoxy glue and good to go again, as it were.

But its the way business is done in Thailand, break the law, break a toilet, just negotiated the best deal you can and move on.

He must be pleased with this invasion as it justifies his position on borders and will energize the g.o.p. voters in the midterms.

Well if Americans took any notice of what happened with illegal Country hoppers in Europe they would fast track that wall. However they tend to be insular and know or care little about the rest of the world. The Yanks don't give a rats arse about Europe or Asia, however South America might just be their wake up call on the negative effects of mass migration..

I just wonder roughly what percentage do in reality report their address?

I'm sure it will be a flash in the pan, but who knows.

There is only room for one address when you enter the County so if you are travelling around Thailand a trip to immigration is a regular event and not usually done by tourists or other visa owners. A dumb law from a military driven Govt.
