  1. On the ground floor of the Trendy Building down Suk. 13 there is a place that sells them - I go there every few weeks to replenish my stock of Trung Nguyen Coffee.

    https://www.facebook.com/thailandtrungnguyen

Thanks!! Great to know..I'll get there this week!!

As to the grounds in the coffee question. I get a small amount that quickly settles in the bottom of the cup but it doesn't bother me at all...I just don't tilt back for the last drops.

  2. Sorry for the double click. Yes, the ground staff are responsible. They steal them and pass them on to those who sell them. The flight crew may not even know about Premium Pass. I told the head FA on Delta, when we left Narita, and she had the captain radio ahead. An agent met me at the gate and walked me thru until I got my baggage. In her bag there was about 100 Premium Passes. I was the only one who got one. Some airlines, like China Air hand them out to everyone in biz. China Eastern, on the other hand, have a crooked ground staff who will only give it out if you raise your voice and stamp your feet. Immigration is in on it. They look at you like a ghost if you have one and they're not expecting a passenger to have it. Like "how did you get that?"

That is good possible (ground staff involved ) as they can make easy money.

Fortunately Emirates and Turkish is not one of them as i never had any problems.

I know they are in on it. The ring leader is the one who sets up the rope lines for the check counters. Every one gets one after check in, at biz. No one gets them getting off the plane.

  4. Fast Track passes are supposed to be given to First and Business Class passengers. It is included in the fare you pay. There's a big scam going on and they are not being given out, unless you insist. They are not supposed to be on sale to the general public. If you are 1st or Biz and you make a fuss, at the arrivals gate, you'll get one. In flight, you tell the senior flight attendant to grease the wheels. It's a disgrace you have to go thru a hassle after paying a 1st and Biz fare and want an enjoyable trip. If you don't get one, after all that, you should write to the airline and complain.

If you try to buy one from some scammer, you are likely to get scammed yourself.

I fly on a regular basis with Turkish and Emirates in Business /First class and never had any problem with the voucher.

Handed over to me at the door when leaving the airplane.

If it is a scam then the airlines have to be involved as they (airline ground staff) are handing them out to the passengers.

  7. I think the manufacturers tell the Thai government they need to make a certain amount of profit, from local sales, or they will shut down the manufacturing plants. After the flood, when they lost a bundle, the government gave a tax refund, to buyers, for every new car they bought. The road was full of red plates. Extortion. In USA they bribed everyone to ruin the mass transit systems so people would have to drive to work and such. The automobile industry is very powerful. Ekami and Morchit bus terminals are not busy, except for holidays. People drive everywhere or fly. Only poor and tourists, to Pattaya, take the bus.

  8. I'm in Pattaya now and they have opened space on the beach that is being enjoyed by thousands of tourists. The remaining 'chair area' filled with almost empty chairs still covering half the beach though.

Why do they set up thousands of empty chairs? A small percentage of them are in use. Stop the greedy, unethical games and let the people have their beach back!

Tourists have voted. They don't want the chairs covering the sand.

and....What ever happened to the crooked government officials that sold the beach to these guys?

Give these vendors an inch and they take a mile. Don't let them back. They blew their chance.

-Abusing tourists that won't rent a chair.

-Covering the beach with empty chairs to prevent tourists from using the public space.

    -Overcharging/scamming.

-Entering deal with criminals at City Hall that sold them our beach.

-Pushy/inconsiderate vendors pestering tourists trying to relax. Rude and disrespectful. By By!

    SCREW THEM.

I am in favour of a chair concession but only set up a chair when requested. That's a win win situation.

And don't make the scenic beach into a shanty town slum again. Haul that gear away at night. The beach is not your personal warehouse...

It's funny to see the folks luxuriating on a beach that was urinated and defecated on all night by humans and thousands of rats.

  9. "Vendors have stated that the new streets did not have nearly enough foot traffic as Khlong Thom"

In other words, the current streets have plenty of foot traffic, which the vendors have completely blocked with their illegal stalls. I bet not one vendor is concerned that all these pedestrians, many of whom probably live or work in the area, cannot use the footpaths for their intended purpose - to walk on.

Therefore there is no reason to worry about the vendors when they are kicked out. Goodbye and thank you BMA.

The only reason anyone would walk there is to buy from the vendors, especially Sunday. People take buses from all over BKK to shop there for good deals. It's a Thai thing and I rarely see a Falang. The dictators want to throw the baby out with the bath water.

  10. In Pattaya he beach chair/umbrella vendors would come at 6am, rake up the garbage and nasty stuff before setting up their chairs. Now no one cleans the beach and clueless tourists lay down on sand that is filthy from people using as a toilet all night and the rat feces left from the rats scurrying around all night. The rats live in the tree roots, among other places and come out at dusk.

  11. I'm tired of being sick. Stopped eating from any street vendors, gaew gang set ups or wet market take away. I shop at Tops or supermarkets for prepared food or ingredients to cook myself or eat at clean food courts and proper restaurants. I grew up where the health department insists on hygenic standards like refrigeration, prepared foods stored at a hot temperature. Dishes, glassware and utensils washed properly. I've seen street vendors using algae green water, from 5 liter water bottles, which they use for years. Forget about hormones. Amebic dysentery and E Coli can kill you or damage your organs for life.

  12. They chased all the vendors from Soi 41. Now it's just parked cars and you have to dodge moving cars since there's no sidewalks. Few places to choose to eat now and more people without a source of income. The Thai working folks can always line up a Au Bon Pain for lunch. The parked cars are "beautiful."

  13. They'll measure out 3 X 3 Meter stands, number them and rent them out to the vendors who were displaced from the sidewalk. The spots on Sukhumvit, where vendors were, around Soi 39, for example, are now motorcycle parking places. Still clogged up for pedestrians. How about adding a few safe crosswalks, with red lights, for pedestrians to cross the street in safety. I don't mean stupid red light arrows or bridges to climb up.

  14. I took my 24" single speed 2,500 Baht bike to a hi so up scale bike shop, to have a flat fixed and they told me they don't work on "housewife bikes." They said I should get a good one, from them, mine would be always be a problem. I found a local Thai guy in a little shop house that willingly fixes it for a few baht. I've been riding it for more than 6 years. I only ride on the sidewalk and walk it across intersections. I have 2 chain and cable locks, the same as motorbikes use. I had one stolen when I had a weak cable. Most malls and office buildings let you park inside for free and there's always a guard. I bought saddle bags, in The Haque, and love my little housewife bike. 24" wheels are perfect for congested sidewalks and going thru street restaurants. Never hit anyone. A folding bike would be good for excursions on the MRT or Sky Train, if it was light enough to carry around.

  15. i fear all of this is just the tip of the iceberg, perhaps the beginning

in the states they now have laws forbidding people to feed the homeless, go figure

if you have never been really truly hungry with no money you simply can NOT judge

    waste not want not?

I'm not familiar with the law you mentioned in the US about forbidding people from feeding the homeless (maybe you can provide a link?) but I suspect that you are quoting it out of context and their is more to it then that. Anyway you should also mention that there are many free places to eat for the homeless in every large city. These are usually run by either the city or by various religious groups. Also there are many food distribution centers that distribute donated bulk food to families. Their are many problems in dealing with the homeless in the US as many have mental health issues as well as drug and alchol addition. Those homeless people in the US that go hungry do so mainly because they are either to lazy to go to a free kitchen or someway incapacitated due to their drinking/drug problem or mental health problems.

Ft. Lauderdale arrested members of a private charity group from giving out free meals to homeless. It's out of control there and there are homeless everywhere. They graze salad bars and garbage cans. they are like stray dogs.

  17. If applying in the USA, you have to go to your police dept, where you live, get fingerprinted. The police, in about 2 weeks, give you a paper, with your fingerprints and photo, and state if you've been arrested in their jurisdiction.

The visa costs $200. The forms are all downloadable. Any high school drop out should be able to figure it out and collate the required forms into 3 sets, in order of what they request.
