If it is not a burden for you, I highly recommend following your agents advise... it streamlines the process and avoids pitfalls... contrary to statements above... not all, if not most agents are truly interested in doing visa work for you to best suit what you goals are regarding staying in Thailand.

I am not planning to use agents.  I never did in a decade.   I can do it myself once I know well the process.   I will be in real retirement, plenty of time in my hands ????.

    Absolute bonk!

The OP is on an extension of stay based on employment and can easily change that to an extension based on retirement

Get a letter from your employer stating your last day of employment(this can be pre-dated)

    Cancel work permit at Labour

Got to immigration and cancel extension of stay based on employment (again this can be do in advance)

Get your ducks in a row

Go back to immigration prior to your last day and apply for an extension based on retirement

    Done and dusted

Thanks.  It sounds logical and rational.   I have never used agents here.  I always do everything y myself after knowing the process.  I was in non O before and did it by myself.  It was very easy.     Thank you buddy.

My local market has a spectacles store.. tests/manufactures/fits.. huge selection

Lenses and frames 2,500 baht complete.

Where is your local market?  Can you please give exactly the location, name etc..  thank you

  4. I started shopping for progressive lenses for my glasses.   I come to conclusion most stores are charging twice to three times the price abroad.  It's not cheap at all and not even reasonable.

Who can help by sharing name and location of what they think is a place to recommend for their service and price.

    Thank you for your help

Guess your new to Thailand, its all about the money and not the logic. Get street smart or pay are the only options.

I have probably been in Thailand longer than you.  But this is not the subject.  I have never dealt with this situation in the past, and I am just sharing with positive people who may be facing dame.  Keep your negativity for yourself if you have nothing useful to say.

  6. For practicality and because the exchange rate was lower than usual, I choose to transfer money to a thai foreign currency bank account and exchange only when the rate is back to normal.  Another reason, is when you transfer dollars to thai account the bank give you a rate that is so baf whatever the situation of exchange rate.

Most thai banks charges two times fees and taxes on their meegre interest rate too.

What is astonishing is, all over the world, banks are extremely happy to get dollars into an account, which contribute to the central banks reserve in currency for international trade etc...   Most banks in other countries will not charge you any fees or extremely small fixed amount.Thai banks, charge from 1 to 1.5% when you make the transfer.  Let's say you transfer 50000 dollars. At 1.5% charge, they take  25,315.50 baht

it never ends, when you make a withdrawal, they charge you same 1 to 1.5%.  at the end after you withdraw your money, you have paid 25,315.50 for withdrawals the total of fees is finally 50,601.00 bahts.

just for comparaison.  A known bank in Malaysia charge 241 baht for deposit and 32 baht for withdrawals.can't even compare.

I don't really understand the rational behind these insane practices in Thai banking system.  Did anyone have same experience or have alternatives banks that don't have these <deleted> up rules

Are you working on a Marriage Visa ?  Is that how you got into this situation ?  Ask your Personnel Officer to call the Immigration & Labour Dept's. to see if the two can be synchrenised.  I recall a situation where a former colleague somehow got out of synch. by three days.  I believe in his case, Immigration agreed to give him 3 days of grace.

No.  I am not married.  It's just normal situation of wp and visa.  Thank you

Sorry to hear about your situation, but it's well known hospitals and even vet clinics charge more than local pharmacies.

I agree with you.  I experience this a vet clinic but don't really know where to get medecine prescribed by vet when my puppy is sick? Never found pharmacy specialized in medecine for animals.

Did find some medecine for dogs sold on lazada and shopee but the price was comparable to vet clinics.

  9. I was recently at a hospital, i got prescribed medecine that cost me 4700 bahts.   Later on I asked a pharmacy for same medecine, the total was around 900 bahts.

Got scammed for almost 4000 bahts.

There is no <deleted> ethics or honest business practices in some places.   Lesson learned.
