Where can Thais get help against a scammer?

There's no harm in doing any of that and it protects her. Though - that won't protect her from future scams... so she has to understand, do not send money to anyone ever... unless she instigates a purchase etc - Changing Bank will be easy... - Changing phone number will be easy, although other's who have her number will be unable to contact her in future and she will get just as many cold and scam calls - but they will be less advanced. - Changing LINE messenger will be the hardest as most of her contacts will be on that, she could keep the LINE messenger (if its registered to a login and not a phone number - but thats another step to go through). - She can just block Scammer on LINE - that doesn't stop another from contacting her, but she's alert to this by now and can just block any new attempt. Thx, didn't think of that. This is the most important point for her... - Never send anyone money if she is not 100% certain and has not instigated a purchase etc (even then, be extremely careful) - Hang up on any calls where she doesn't know the other party in person - Never respond to any messages on Messaging services from those she does not know -

I nearly got caught out in the UK... A very convincing scam. I'd just listed a car on Auto-trader and within minutes I received a call from Auto-trader, stating I'd just made a payment of £xx.x for the advert... but it didn't go through... Could I give the card details again... Sure, I said, I'll call you back on the Official Autotrader number... The woman (very well spoken) got irritated with me, that was when I first realised it might be a scam !!!.. They are often very convincing... I never click on a link in an e-mail etc. BUT - the British Government, send out e-mails with links to click !!! - performance survey etc (after a recent passport renewal) - they must be stupid if they think people will click on a link, rather, only the naive ones will. So, I can't tell them how terribly they did as I don't want to click on a link !!!... Win win for them, only the mentally feckless can give them feedback !!! -

When God said, “Let there be light!” Bob & Digger with their baseball bat and broom handle said, “Say Please !! Some kids pee their name in the snow. Bob & Digger can pee their name's into concrete !! When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Bob & Digger with their baseball bat and broom handle !! Bob & Digger once hit a horse on the chin with their baseball bat and broom handle. Its descendants are now known as giraffes !! -
Looming Crisis: Private Schools Face Closures Amid VAT Hike
richard_smith237 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Indeed... I have read of cases whereby parents claim they cannot afford the increase... Thus, they want to sent their child to the local comprehensive, but they are over subscribed, another school is too far away - the local education authority has consequently ended up paying the Private School fees. There is also the argument that IF a family can afford private tuition, they can afford 20%, but thats also flawed thinking... many operate under stretched means and scrape buy to afford their children the best they possibly can. Another facet - with British children leaving Private Schools for State or Grammar School education, their places are filled by 'wealthy' overseas students and best of UK's eduction goes to more foreign students as local students continue in an over-crowded, underfunded education system... This Government lacks such foresight - I've never seen a UK government cause such damage so quickly - I can't understand how a vote of no confidence has not already been called for. -

One of you are being scammed... Why is she asking 'all her friends' for 35,000 baht, if she lost just 5600 baht ? The SCB account will be a Mule Account. She should report this to the Police (though its unlikely the do anything) - she should give the police the SCB account details into which she complained. She should take the Police Report to Kasikorn Bank and report the scam to them too. Her 5600 baht is very likely lost. She should ignore calls from any number she doesn't recognise as she's not sharp enough to recognise an obvious scam. ------------- Of course, its your choice if you send her money... but the 35,000 baht when she has lost 5600 baht indicates something is amiss. -
Should Motorbikes be allowed to drive on the sidewalk?
richard_smith237 replied to BarBoy's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Yup... thats the solution... Carry a broom handle with you every-time you pop down to 7-11, Big-C, the local restaurant or bar... Works 100%... Of course you've tried this a few times haven't you?... -
Thats the complaint - usually the food arrives quite quickly... However, I think recently the Grab App evolved for riders to accept multiple jobs (or at least more than one)... so they could be picking-up your food first, and end up delivering it last... thus, its taken too long and the customer is not happy.... (cold slow food). ... So, the customer is 'forced' to use the 'Priority delivery' option, when then everyone starts using and we are in the same boat... then, people get more and more fed up with slow service and stop using Grab when a viable alternative comes up. GRAB's taxi service was excellent when there was competition with UBER - they killed that off and standards quickly slipped. The same can be said for the food delivery - it was good, but standards have slipped. IMO - Foodpanda was always terrible (too many repeated issues) - LINE Man was good, but the interface was tricky to use, GRAB has a very good interface, but as exampled, issues to economise (or take greater profit) to the detriment of service is also now slipping through. Call it development, or companies getting greedy and losing sight of what made them popular in the first place - but it seems business modelling is at the root of this 'long delivery' issue.

I think you're looking for fault and negativity from any angle you can find it. A few bottles in a fridge most certainly does not an 'alcohol problem' make - I have about 20+ bottles of wine in my Wine Fridge, such flawed hyperbolae that you used would indicate severe issues !!! Though - I am wondering what the 'Italian Red' thing in the Singha bottle (in the middle is). -
Haha.. fair enough.. I completely miss-read that part... (flight from Cambodia to Chiang Mai). But... as I'm sure others will attest - there are plenty of very good restaurants that deliver on Grab, I wouldn't let one experience impact the convenience of delivery options.

You are not incorrect - The North American Continent is subdivided... but those countries within those Subdivisions are still in North America. Regarding postal addresses - I can't speak for postal addresses in places such as Costa Rica, however, everywhere else I have travelled and work, only the 'Country' has been necessary when writing an address, not the continent or sub-division of continent - but I can see how local preferences may influence that. That just comes down to education, assumption, individual understanding etc... there's never been any reason to question that in the past - I'd guess that this same 'assumption' is made by many... But Central America & The Caribbean are part of the North American continent. Oceana and Australasia is another which throws out a curve ball for many... As does Greenland...

In 'any case' ???... Firstly, with my family in the car, my priority is to them. In this case the road is too fast - as much as I like to say I would have stopped, I think the risk of getting hit by another vehicle not paying attention is too high. In the past I have stopped and helped - but this situation looks too dangerous to me.

That's not what I understand by "First Aid" In Thailand there is no obligation for bystanders to help. & contrary to popular belief, Thailand does have 'good samaritan laws' protecting those rendering first aid (for those reacting within the scope of their training). However, common sense suggests 'rending first aid when safe to do so'..... As Moonlover - it was clearly unsafe to render first aid in this situation until the traffic was controlled.
-
They have priority where its safe to do so. In this case - it was not safe to approach a junction at speed without first ensuring the junction was clear. Translation: the driver, thought lights and sirens gave him reason to place every other road user at risk and blow through a junction. ... IF he had slowed to a reasonable speed and checked, he would not have hit the bike.

Erm... so you have no idea what App the hotel used (if they even used an App). The food was not good. The conclusion - you'll never order from any restaurant in Cambodia again. And the thread is about ordering food from the GRAB App in Thailand...

Are they checking both parties for DUI... Anyone involved in a traffic incident regardless of fault should be checked. In this case, given the time (early hours of 27th) - I think its a fair assumption that booze was involved impairing the foreigner decision to make a sudden manoeuvre without checking.
-
High spirits and messing around is one thing... but this reckless stupidity with complete disregard for anyone else... ... I they throw the book at this idiot... this could have been a lot worse for anyone nearby. But... Who sold the firework to this idiot ??? - the sale of Fireworks is illegal unless through authorised channels - the BiB never bother to crack down on these sales. It was just 4 years ago when another fool killed himself in the same area.

Should Motorbikes be allowed to drive on the sidewalk?
richard_smith237 replied to BarBoy's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
...what was the red tiled section I was walking on last night then? It had a curb on the edge of it too.. Maybe this binary thinking is why you hate Thailand so much ???... Mark didn't write there are 'no pavements', he wrote there are 'very few'... and thats true of a lot of area's of Thailand, though in most built up areas, there are of course pavements / sidewalks... ... most are hardly navigable by foot, let alone motorcycle - but where there exists the combination of space and gridlocked traffic, this space (pavements / sidewalks) becomes utilised as an over-flow road - and thats an issue when pedestrians use the same space. -
Should Motorbikes be allowed to drive on the sidewalk?
richard_smith237 replied to BarBoy's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I voted no of course... But, there is also a small 'grey area'... i.e. when parking up (and the area where motorcycles are parking is on the pavement - in which case, they should be driving very carefully) - it could be argued that they get off and push, but the risk of tip over is higher and there is less control, so thats less safe IMO. The Pavements / sidewalks should never be used in lieu of a road - and I think this is an issue in Thailand, where the roads become gridlocked... The cars jammed up, the motorcycles have 'filled all the gaps'... other motorcyclists then think its ok to circumnavigate the gridlock by riding down the pavement with flagrant disregard for any regulations... ... & why not? there is very very little chance of them getting caught... ... just like the cars who follow the vehicle in front through the red traffic light and the other 4 or 5 behind them before they are stranded, left 'pregnant' in the middle of the box-junction blocking the other traffic for whom the lights have turned green. Lets face it - such is the lack of effective policing, its amazing anyone follows any regulations at all really... -
Never... There have only ever been seven continents. - Asia - Africa - North America - South America - Antarctica - Europe - Oceana There are sub-divisions in North America which cause confusion perhaps because those from the USA think Canada and the USA is North America. - North America (Mainland Core - USA Canada, Mexico), - Central America - The Caribbean - Bermuda - Greenland is a confusing one (Geographically its in North America... Politically associated with Europe) In much the same way Europe has its subdivisions. - Northern Europe - Southern Europe - Western Europe - Eastern Europe - Central Europe - Southeastern Europe

With no desire to get into a fight, when I was at skool there were 2 Countries in North America. The US and Canada. The other 21 Countries on that list of 23 made up 1. The Caribbean Islands 2. Central America Everything from Colombia down to Argentina made up South America (agreed - no need to get into a battle / this is informative for those who think America is the USA). The term "America" can refer to two continents: North America and South America. Together, they are often referred to as the Americas. There are 35 independent countries in the Americas (23 in North America & 12 in South America). The continent of North America includes: - Canada - United States - Mexico - Central America (the countries connecting North and South America) - The Caribbean islands The continent of South America includes: - The continent to the south of Central America, connected by the Isthmus of Panama. -------------------- The 23 independent countries of North America: - Canada - United States - Mexico - Belize - Guatemala - El Salvador - Honduras - Nicaragua - Costa Rica - Panama - The Caribbean - Bahamas - Cuba - Jamaica - Haiti - Dominican Republic - Antigua and Barbuda - Saint Kitts and Nevis - Dominica - Saint Lucia - Barbados - Saint Vincent and the Grenadines - Grenada - Trinidad and Tobago The 12 independent countries of South America: - Brazil - Chile - Colombia - Ecuador - Guyana - Paraguay - Peru - Suriname - Uruguay - Venezuela
