He’s using the number from a poll he made up on this forum - questions were very flawed in their wording to proved a loaded result… Actually using his own poll results as some sort of ‘valid statistic’ highlight s the extreme level of stupidity of someone who thinks they are ‘fine drink driving, because they are careful when drunk”.., A grade A1 example of stupidity at its highest level…

What idiot makes such a comment… Plenty of ppl always have cash with them. I always travel with US$1000 emergency cash (+ various cards). & it’s not as if the victims ‘announced’ they were carrying cash, the thieves were simply opportunistic & ‘rummaging’, they were caught with various currencies likely from multiple victims. (I’ll start locking my carryon again !) Clearly repeat offenders if they were on watch lists: Why not black listed by a) the airline & b) by Thailand immigration??

Indeed…. I often have travel at less than 12 hours notice… or have to change plans last min.., …. Kind of makes this 3 day requirement somewhat tricky. Mods: my comment needs deleting- I misunderstood the 3 day comment & have made a misleading statement. The title of the thread needs correction too… “within 3 days” - which would limit confusions.

To be fair - I see the logic. IF all our arrival details are already in the Immigration system, all they have to do is check an ‘approved box’ - if the system works in this manner it cuts down the work load & smoothes arrival & speeds up processing times. The issue is that ‘online’ Immigration systems have been somewhat ‘glitchy’ over recent history…

Maybe, but, that’s just the way it happened, twice. Malcy is right to a point - it’s a little hypocritical of me to judge drunk drivers so harshly when decades ago I have assisted a couple of friends who thought they may be close to the legal limit. But, as regular drunk-driver, his attempt to point score & claim the moral high ground is pathetic & nothing more than an unintelligent attempt to point score… This is someone who admits to getting drunk (10-12 beers) & driving regularly (weekly)… The self-righteousness is pathetic, it belies an underlying carelessness & nastiness when he knowingly drives & can kill someone while drunk driving…. A show of his true character. He hates & criticises the actions of foreigners who behave poorly in Thailand, yet does exactly ‘just that’ when DUI without any regards for the safety of those around him - he’ll say that he drives slowly & carefully when drunk to remain safe - hypocritical clown.

Lack of effective policing is simplistic - the identification of this is not a failure to comprehend a wider issue, identification of this & other issues is not a failure to accept lots of other issues are also at hand & each not isolated or individual facets but part of a bigger picture. But, when someone drunkenly speeds into a brick wall & someone comments that “stupidity was at play” - it’s an accurate comment, the comment does not mean other factors are not an involved…. Or that there is no wider understanding - it’s just that not every poster wants to write a thesis on RTA’s in Thailand that covers each & every facet from education, to policing to road engineering….. A lot of people are just stupid - I see it when on holiday & the Thai’s & foreigners riding without a helmet - this just stupidity enabled though a lack of effective policing.

I’ve explained this to you before & you twist it every chance you get. Out with a mixture of Thai & Western friends… Driver had 2x glasses of wine. Police stop - wanted driver to blow into the ‘wand’ which recognises the presence of alcohol but not the level. If presence of alcohol on the breath is identified the BiB want a bribe - or the driver waits (however long - >1 hour) & is taken to the station for a proper breathalyser measurement. The ‘bribe’ is to avoid the song & dance. The ‘phone call’ is to avoid the game. This has happened twice - both drivers no longer drink at all when they drive. So - for BJ71 - wanna know who I am ? ’someone who happens to have friends & will help a friend’…..

It’s a cop out…. Laziness, just an announcement, media lip service !! The only solution for DUI is to arrest them all, in the cells until arraignment - charges & bail applied. Unfortunately, they would keep the courts too busy… so the path of least resistance is taken & that is to do very little unless an accident is caused… … “there is no law until something happens”

Possibly - all of the above comments seem logical from the perspective of a Thai who is poorly educated & may not know any better… Most of my exposure here is with well educated Thai’s of a similar socio-economic-educational demographic…. I find their opinions on many matters mirror my own rather closely - but I’ll concede that there is a significant proportion of the population who are innocently ignorant of what they are missing or may not even want that - the areas of development I listed might impact the ‘happy go lucky vibe’ of Thailand many of us welcome. That said - I still see so much needless death & injury due to poor safety (roads & drowning etc)…. This is one aspect I would like to see improved above all else.

One minute before immigration in fact - they have already said there will be provision on arrival for those that didn't already complete it. That makes a lot more sense… Hope the Apps work smoothly !
