  1. I noticed this recently while on the embassy website. Thought it might be handy for some:

    **CONSULAR OUTREACH VISIT**

The Consular Section of the Australian Embassy in Bangkok will be undertaking a consular outreach visit to Chiangmai as follows:

    Friday 17 June 2016, between 9.00am to 12.00pm and 1.00pm to 3.00pm at:

    Dusit D2 Chiangmai Hotel - (M Room)

    100 Chang Klan Road

    Tambon Chang Klan, Amphur Muang

    Chiangmai 50100 Thailand

    Tel: +66 (0) 5399 9999

    Fax: +66 (0) 5399 9900

During the outreach visit, we will provide the following services:

    * Passport applications (please ensure you bring all original documents and a photocopy of each document with you)

    * Notarial services

    * Statutory declarations for marriage, retirement visas and driving licence renewals

    * Witnessing documents

    * Certified true copies of documents (please ensure you bring the original and a photocopy of each document with you)

As fees are payable in cash only, please bring the right change with you. Please contact the Consular section on 02 344 6300 or email [email protected] prior to your visit to confirm fees payable

  2. I recognise him from the photo. I know him as Chris. Replaced a bunch of amalgam fillings with composite for me and actually persuaded me NOT to replace the ones that were in good condition (you risk a some of the old toxic filling particles going down your throat). I take that as a good sign. One year on and all the fillings are fine.

  3. I rent in a building where there are multiple free wifi access points for tenants. The service is fairly reliable however, even from the closest access point, the signal is rather weak and borderline unusable in the bedroom. Surfing is fine but you can forget about watching Youtube on a smartTV.

I have never used them, but I have heard about range extenders (I'm assuming repeaters are the same thing) that you just plug into a powerpoint, set the password and go.

I understand that the main downside is a reduction in bandwidth (can be 50%). I don't know if ping times are significantly affected, although I don't play games so this might not be an issue. The peak service bandwidth here is pretty good (see below) so a 50% reduction probably wouldn't be an issue.

    Peak downstream 30 Mbps

    Peak upstream 3 Mbps

    Ping 35-40ms

    access points are 2.5 GHz

signal averages -70dB in living room and -80dB in bedroom

    Questions:

    1. I've read that ideally you should buy an extender of the same make as the other internet hardware. Should you try and match the make to the modem/router or the access point that you connect to?

    2. If I can't get an extender of the same brand, is there a brand/model available in TL that anyone can recommend, that they have had good experience with?

    3. Extenders seem to come in a large price range. I don't know if more $$ gets you better performance?

    4. Any other advice welcome!

  4. Wondering if anyone has applied for a visa by post there recently and how long it took.

Last time I applied around September 2015 and it came back in the mail inside 1 week. Before I exclusively used Brisbane (closed until further notice) for double entries and they always did it inside a week. In my experience the service from both consulates has been great.

It's taking longer than usual this time but it's the first time I've applied for the new multi entry visa.

  5. I'm heading down to immigration across form Promenda to get a residency certificate so I can buy a scooter.

However, I note that the residency certificate is only valid for 30 days. Since I'm going to all this trouble to get it, I'm thinking perhaps I should try to get the most out of it. Any suggestions?

For example can i use this to get a Thai drivers licence? I come to Thailand with 60 day tourist visas. Are 1) the residency certificate plus 2) the 60 day visa plus 3) my foreign and 4) international drivers licences enough for me to secure a Thai drivers licence?

  6. If there is an up to date thread on procedures for bike transfers then could someone please post a link

I bought a less than 2 year old Honda Click from a friend. My friend has filled out some paperwork relating to the transfer. Also, I have papers from the building manager where I live as proof of address. I also have the green book.

I don't want to go down to immigration or the motor registry and find out that I'm missing something, so:

    1) Obviously I will have to take the address related paperwork and my passport along with me to immigration first, where they will presumably issue me some document or stamp the transfer paperwork?

    2) My friend has given me signed copies of his photo page from the passport. However, he didn't give me a copy of the page showing his entry stamp or departure card. Are these necessary?

    3) Is there anything that has to be signed or filled out by the original owner in the green book?

    4) Anything else I need?

  7. 1) If my visa says "enter before..." can I enter ON the date shown or does it have to be the day before (I have had different answers to this question).

    2) From looking at my old passport stamps it seems that a 60 day visa means 60 days with entry and exit date both counted as one day. Put another way, if there was such thing as a 1 day visa which was issued on say 1 Jan, then the visa would expire at midnight 1 Jan and not 2 Jan as you might expect.

  8. There seem to be plenty of bus services that will take you from the Airport, Mo Chit, Anusawari etc. to Trat on the mainland. However then you have to organise a ride form the bus station to ferry, the ferry itself and once on the island, a song taew to your hotel.

    1) I found one company that offers two services (Bus 382 and The Lonely Beach Express) that go from Suvarnabhumi to your hotel on the island for 600B per person, but their website says they can't take online bookings and nobody answers the phone. For all I know the service could be dead. They have 2 websites

    2) This company takes you there in a sedan and charges 4500B. I certainly don't need a private service, but it could be the only other option.

    Anyone know any good alternatives?
