  1. I usually feel pretty good when I leave. When waking up first there's the good bye fvk with

Mrs Meom who always gives it her best effort. Once that's finished it's beer time until we go to the airport. After check in we have a couple of beers more, than a good bye wave and I'm on my way to passport control. Once that's finished it's time to have a few more beers until the plane departs.

In the air I normally switch to whisky until it's time to land. All in all it's ok.

The next day back at work I usually don't feel to good though and need about 2-3 weeks to recover after which the countdown to the next leave starts.

this is pretty much spot on for me too.........

........except the goodbye <deleted> with mrs meom. :o

Do you pay excess for your liver?

  2. I'm also thinking about designing a "gray water system" to recover shower and sink water.

Pottable water is rapidly becoming a serious probel here in SOCAL.

In the future Thailand will be faced with similar crisis as some areas are all ready.

Any Gray water systems out there?... :o

Saw a handwash basin mounted on top of the loo that emptied directly into the toilet bowl. Seemed clever idea.

  3. I couldn't believe it when a student of mine farted loudly in class. These are grade eight kids; prime-time for hardcore humiliation. I heard it and looked up, as did most of the students. The girls that sat behind this poor kid just smiled at him and one of them wagged her finger!

It's amazing that this kind of thing would be tantamount to social death in Canada. I wonder what sort of things Thais would find embarrassing are commonplace in the west.

    BFD!

Depending upon the length, sound & odour of the fart, you would be given a medal in Australia. I guess it all depends upon your sense of humour. I must say, a good fart is always a laughable matter in any country, unless surrounded by right wing conservatives.

I read a book a few years ago about a guy who took some disabled kids as crew and made the first boat crossing from one sea to the other across thailand. He was a real hard case who carried a sword and was prepared to use it and on more than one accasion nearly ran through lots of Thais who queued up to laugh at the disabled Thai kids. The explanation he got from a Thai was that because you get in life what you deserve you can laugh at misfortune because they are getting paid back for what they did in a previous life....Bhuddist teaching. Funnily enough when Thai TV did a piece on the kids and they became media stars the towns along their route lined up to cheer them every inch of the way.

  4. I finally read the article that caused all the fuss. Its offensive and dehumanises the bar girls who are dismissed as less than human and with no rights. Hitler did the same with the jews. It arises out of envy of spending power and the bar girls and fat old falangs not knowing their place. For a society that places so much store on knowing where you and others are in the food chain thats a sin. By the same token men the world over assume that all Thai girls are easy. You can <deleted> them for the price of a pint. One of the biggest complaints in other countries about the social habits of Thai girls is that they are not fcukable. All the chat up lines that worked in Patpong have lost there magic in alabama or manchester.

Decent thai women are stigmatised by association and it is a stigma, sleeping with several hundred degenerates for money is a horrible way to make money. Some are forced into it some choose it and some know nothing else. They associate often with the dregs of humanity and many people are offended by having it spill out of the ghettos of patpong and pattaya into mainstream places like emporium. Ostentatious consumption is always offensive.

The posters comments are hurtful and in labelling all sex workers she herself degrades the women. The analogy of the toilet is a good one in the sense of a release but not somewhere to spend your time and life. Yet that is what many men do. They search out the girls for a cheapfcuk and then end up marrying them because of the "Knight on a White charger" syndrome. Many of the men on this forum have partners from bar girl backgrounds and they must find it deeply offensive that somehow their partner is branded and that label will follow her everywhere she goes and other thais will always judge her and find her wanting. But there is a degree of truth in her attacks and thats what offends people. I once tried following the threads of certain posters who have had several relationships. It was funny to see the same patterns. The girls are poor but honest, they should be given a chance, my wife is different I would trust her with my life etc etc.......Then it all goes wrong...shes a bar girl right and married just for the money. Then theres a mass of posts about rip off Thai women and how you cant trust a hooker. Time passes, time passes time passes and then they find another bar girl and the cycle repeats itself. Some are on their third or fourth bar girl and still getting taken for a fool.

I dont like the judging and I dont like the dehumanising. But I dont like it when my wife gets bad service or ignored because they assume that because she is with me she was a bar girl. For a woman who dragged herself up through scholarships to university where she lived on 200 baht a week and hence to a successful career I can understand why she gets annoyed that assumptions are made about thai women because the only thing low life falangs know is that they are a cheap <deleted>. equally she would despise the attitude of the blogger which is deeply un-bhuddist in her judging and lack of any compassion or understanding.

For too many falangs thailand begins and ends with the bar scene perhaps what the blogger is railing against is the way that mindset is making inroads into what was the preserve of the rich, but having said that she finds it offensive that ordinary hard working thais are bowing and scraping to people who are degraded by what they do...and that includes the falangs too.

  5. A friend of mine was charged with assualt on a girl in a pharmacists, that is until the facts came out.

His name is Joe and he's from the maldive islands. He started at university recently and joined the potholing club. All new members have the piss taken and he was no exception. The chemists at the corner is where they all buy their condoms and "BIG MAX"

brand is a favourite. They told him he needed a thermos for the caving and he should go into the chemist and ask for a BIG MAX. So Joe goes in

Pretty young lady assistant; "What can I do for you?"

Joe says, "I'd like a BIG MAX please."

The girl smiles and says "Of course" and turns away, Joe interrupts her with "You have to make sure its a big one please" he calls out.

"A big one," says the girl colouring up

"It should be at least 15 inches" says Joe, " It needs to hold at least a litre because once I'm inside I could stay up to a week"

The girl staggers a little and says "Phew that sounds, amazing, but frightening too, you should.... take a picture"

"Oh" says Joe, "I've only got this old thing, nothing special, I'll just whip out my brownie..."

Thats when the girl falls and hits her head

  6. Which temple did you have in mind? Temples that run meditation courses (such as Wat Suan Mokh in Chaiya, Surat Thani) allow people stay when the course is not on. Check out Sabaijai's list in the Buddhism forum about Wats offering meditation

    Hi sbk

sorry for not being detail. what i meant can thai woman go to the temple and stay for few days to do prayers?

why im asking this question is that my gf just went to temple to pray for 3 days. she told me that she is staying there.

is it true? the temple is at maesai area.

Yes they can, but its also an excuse I've heard that girls might use if they want to be uncontactable for a few days for whatever reason.

They are always contactable because they all take their phones, they only switch them off for the actual praying. As long as the lady monk in charge is not around they chat as long as they like.

    True meditation then.

Ten days is a long time and my wife gets lonely and wants to find out how the family is doing. This morning she was up at 3.30 and after praying and making food she wanted to talk, so she walks outside to phone so as not to disturb the others, but you are right there may not be so much deep meditation as a chance to serve the others. I think my wife gets most pleasure from helping the permanent ones and also its a bit like giving up chocolate for lent...they look forward to the end. Being Thai as well they believe that good fortune requires making merit. I know if my wife has any problems with her family or worries a spell in the temple works wonders. One of the ladies there is a recovering schizophrenic and my wife said the improvement in her during the month she has been there, because my wife was there when she first came, and now, is amazing.

  8. Hi all

How do you say 'deja vu' (having the eerie feeling of being somewhere or in a situation before) in Thai?

    Thanx

I dont know but I have a strange feeling its been asked before.

  9. I see prostitutes as human beings and certainly think they should be treated as such.

By the fact that I rarely see posters defend the dignity and rights of bargirls in other threads, I can't help but think that the offence some feel has less to do with altruistic concern for the social equality of bargirls and more about feeling judged in their own choice of mate and actions. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see many of you (obviously I don't mean everyone on this thread) speaking up about the multitude of other social inequalities in Thailand -- should I feel impressed at your thirst for social justice when it seems largely reserved for those you'd like to f-?

    Hahahahahah

The issue isn't that prostitutes are human beings or not -- of course they are. The issue is some people trying to elevate relationships based on prostitution into something that they are not, and injecting them into social contexts where they don't belong.

    Yes yes yes

  10. I disagree on the quality issues with the exception of the speakers which I must agree are total crap. :o

Definitely definitely Acer, my compaq just failed and after much much research found its a well known fault that no one can rectify. The wireless card just disappears, goes from device manager and is no longer detected. Found a site with 265 and growing postings on the problem. No one, no tech guy, no expert, no one has been able to solve it. No one knows if its hardware or softward. Suggestions have been motherboard, power isssue, siting of card, sequencing of startup. It is fixed with a new motherboard but just happens again several months later. Perhaps as hard drive fills up or power is allocated again. The card disappears after hibernation never to reappear. Several hundred people have sworn to never buy HP or Compaq again. I only have one because I sent out a friend to buy an Acer and she came back with a Compaq. I know nothing about tech issues but if anyone wants to read the very long thread its on

  11. Maigo6Today, 2007-09-13 09:09:39

You have money and power, you get women that you would not get if you were poor and powerless, same everywhere.

again, so true that money and power always come together!!

Suszzy, not many people on ThaiVisa agree with me, mainly cos I go against the Status Quo here, i.e. Farangs are all good and the Thai people are only taking advantage.

I've lived in Thailand long enough to know that Farangs are quite capable of taking advantage of many situations, using their financial power to get what they want, and taking advantage of a persons financial vulnerability whenever they want to.

I just try to balance it out. :o

Maigo6...please keep on keeping on. This forum needs some balancing out. I'm still with you on your attitude, although I doubt I have the stamina to enjoy all current 18 pages. I'm also prepared to be contraversial and unpopular even though it may sometimes tend to crush the humour.

I'm not sure yet why you post that Lee Van Cleef image, even though I enjoyed the trilogy begun with Clint's 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, or was it A Fistful of Dollars that started it? (apology for drifting off topic)

    Alex8

My grandfather who is 89 has just married a 23 year old Thai girl. At my wifes insistance, because of the worries about over-strenuous sex, I raised the isssue of an early death with him, he said, "if she dies she dies"

  12. Indira Ghandi

    Rosa Luxembourg

    Camille Claudel

    Jeanne D'Arc

    Patricia Highsmith

All favourites for one reason or another. First broke the mould, second, immense courage and self sacrifice allied to intellectual excellence, third, unrecognised brilliance because she did not have testicles, fourth, iconic world changing figure, fifth, brilliant underrated writer, read her and you see how bad the rest of the crime writers are.

  13. Moving into a newly built house this week - It was time to shop for appliances.

Finalised which items I was going to buy - went down to the shop I had been negotiating with and concluded the purchase.

Bought an aircon unit, refrigerator & hot water unit.

Walked out of the shop at 11.30am yesterday.

Aircon guys turned up at 12.30pm. Refrigerator was delivered 1.00pm. Hot water guy turned up 1.00pm.

All finished by 2.30pm, everything was straight, no messy wiring, all holes filled & all tested & working. :D

    Three hour turnaround! :D

And to top it off, all mess, dust, rubble etc was cleaned spotlessly without me even having to mention a thing. :D

Unbelievable! TIT? Honestly after having experienced typical Thai service many times before & read hundreds of tales of woe on this forum I was shocked.... :o

Anybody else have some eye opening experiences to share about Thai tradesmen? Good, bad or just plain bizzare?

    Cheers,

    Soundman.

I've had lots of wonderful service in Thailand and some just as awful as the rest of the world. Too many falangs brings bad service, money is too easy and all falangs want it NOW

why im asking this question is that my gf just went to temple to pray for 3 days. she told me that she is staying there.

My wife is there now and goes regularly. She always returns tired and hungry but with great inner peace. Many, many women go regularly, some stay a long time others a few days. They wear white and some cut their hair, they pray and meditate and take care of the sick or the old. Some go to think, my wife loves it and always tells me the lady monk in charge tells her she will stay forever one day because she enjoys it so much. In truth my wife finds it hard, the sleeping on the mats on the floor, the no eating after the morning (like all Thais, that is the hardest) but she likes to go because its making merit for the future.

  15. Many of these hi-so Thais you see in Paragon and The Emporium would be middle class or lower in the West. When they travel to Hong Kong or Singapore, they stay in 3 star hotels and they realize the kind of money that there is first world countries. They are well aware of this, and that is why I always see looks of insecurity and admiration in their eyes towards farang.

I have never heard a Thai male complain that farang date Thai women from poor backgrounds, maybe they joke about it, but that is the end of it. Yet many of these hi-so Thai girls are jealous of these girls who do absolutely nothing but hook up with a farang and now they have access to more money than these hi-so girls do! I get the feeling that some of these girls wish that they were doing the same thing these BGs are doing but they care too much about what other people will think about them.

Three ugly girls are eating lunch and a pretty girl walks by in a short skirt with a good looking guy. What happens? They call her a slut. Because her skirt is short? Nah, its because she is prettier than them and many women are by nature jealous and vindictive. Especially Thai women!

Lets be straight up, socially Thailand is about 100 years behind the modern world. Every single day living here I have to hear the word hi-so. Jesus Christ. Hi-So this, Hi-So that. Like I mentioned previously, put all of these hi-so Thais on a plane to Hong Kong and most of them are no longer hi-so. Those who would still be upper class in Hong Kong are certainly not going to give two shits about a BG grubbing money off a rich old farang.

fwiw, ive read this girls blog before and i don't think she is all that bad.

You are mistaking class for money. Hiso Girls in Thailand would be hiso in europe or the states, purchasing power is an irrelevancy otherwise the converse would be true...bottom feeding gutter dwellers, the human jetsam and flotsam of States and Europe, wallowing in their filth and depravity and glorying in their brutishness and ignorance would come here and suddenly be elevated to the status of Princes by their purchasing power..............My God! you are right, I see your point now.

  16. The last year I have noticed more and more expats here getting large dogs....mostly Pitbulls or rottys.

I don't understand why any one would buy or wish to own a dog breed that has such a history.

This isn't a post set up to bash the breeds or the owners But I just dont understand why.

With pitbulls I would guess sexual inadequacy, with other breeds probably just like a big dog to play with, I've had labs and collies and crosses, some little dogs are big dogs in a small body others are too yappy for me. Big dogs can be a deterrent, pitbulls are just a liabilty and when the first falang is lynched after one kills a Thai kid, God help the other pitbull owners. 70% plus, attacks on people are by pitbulls in states and they have killed hundreds of people. Why anyone would want to keep one except for a very small todger that doesnt work is beyond me, wannabe Mike Tysons or Michael Vicks I suppose. I remember reading about a boxer in the states who bought his pitbull a present after he won a national championship: a labrador with its mouth taped shut. Now that is truly sick, but that's the kind of people who like those dogs.

  17. Yes, Central has them. I remember when I was looking last year, however, that they were a bit pricey (the ones I saw there started around 6,000 baht).

I ended up going with one from the baby/child store at Samitivej Hospital - Sukhumvit Branch on Sukhumvit 49 (on the ground floor of the main building). At this little shop they had the standard monitor which I went with for 2,100 baht (comprable to what I saw at Central) and they also had a video monitor for 6,000 baht. I've been using it now for a while and have no complaints.

Also agree that you'll probably need to get to a bigger city to get this type of item. Or can check the online classifieds to see if some farang family is selling theirs (the BAMBI website has them every so often in their classifieds, and you can usually negotiate with sellers to mail you reasonably small items if you're outside of BKK).

    keeping lizards is cruel

  18. Just today in the Uk a grandmother was aquited of negligence re. allowing a pit bull to savage and kill her baby/toddler grand daughter. The dog belonged to her tracksuit and baseball hat wearing, unemployed low life son. The dog ripped of the little girls face. Although the dog had attacked people in the past it had never turned on its family - not that the dog understood the little girl was family :o
This is where the law is an ass,..first politician to ban these breeds would get my vote for sure, absolutly disgusting, as a father of a youngster i feel if it happened to me it would nt get to court, :D

Youre absolutely right, they should be banned and with kids you are right to be alarmed, In the states the majority of attacks on people about 70+ % are by pitbulls and they have killed hundreds of people. <edit>

  19. Was informed last night by a university professor of mine that several well to do wives in town, have gone through an extensive selection process for the mia nois of their old men. The reason being to make sure that the wife can keep the mia noi under control.

This was a new one on me

    :o

He finished by saying (we had had a few by then), "If you are lucky, your wife will make sure she gets you a good one too!"

    :D

    Anyone heard of this before?

If any wife is staying with a man that takes the piss by telling or worse still asking for help selecting a mia noy she is with him strictly for money and herself is no better than a whore,.and as for the man he is at best a selfish bastard, and im not usually known for my feminine side !.. :D

There are more things in heaven and earth....

The depth of your ignorance about how other people might lead their lives is breathtaking, out of all the billions of people and multitude of religions and modes of life you can reduce it to; "taking the piss...no better than a whore" If that's the level of your understanding I would keep quiet if I were you. Get out more, get a life, open your mind and try thinking. One size doesnt fit all.

  20. Who says understanding that someone may have had a bad day is taking their side? Who says there needs to be a side taken? There are two people involved in this interaction and one bystander who assumed that the bad behavior was caused because the foreign woman was rude.

Who knows what the history is between the two? Nobody. I just prefer not to leap in judgment of either party involved since I don't know anything at all about the situation except what the OP chose to infer.

Bad behaviour is bad behaviour and when you excuse it you side with the aggressor not the victim. As long as you keep looking for reasons to justify rudeness people will keep being rude and abusing others.

  21. Canned bamboo shoots are known to cause botulism in Thailand, when the sterilization hasn't been done thoroughly enough, or if the cans where re-contaminated before sealing. The culprit for botulism is Clostridium botulinum, a bacteria that can survive prolonged cooking at 100 Celsius and is then able to grow and prosper under the low-oxygen conditions inside the sealed cans.

There was a big outbreak in Nan province last year: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=63726

Meat is the likeliest source though not absolutely certain. Its easier to contaminate chicken than bamboo
