สุขสันต์วันคริสต์มาสทุก ๆ คน!

better to sit on your roof for a few hours than visit one of those thermonuclear tanning shops.
the unregulated and untested machines they use will leatherise and cancerise your skin before you can say chernobyl.
stay away.
Agreed. Thailand doesn't have the hole in the ozone layer hovering over it - why not play some sport like footy or rollerblading in the condo's car park or go swimming.

Bambi is going for the brownie points!

The cool thing about being a American is that you can be any color or have any cultural back ground and you are still American. Unlike say England for example, you can have a British passport but unless your Anglo Saxon you will never be a Englishman.
Where did you get that from? I'm English even though I am not pasty pale and don't have any of the sharp features of an Anglo-Saxon.
Your kiddo will certainly look good. I found a picture of a famous Thai African American (Joey of Bazoo) but as you can see from the pic, the only Thai bits are the eyes and nose! And look at the Morris k book cover - it's a bit small, but you can't see any thai in him from that pic!
I was reading a book entitled Multiethnic Japan, which outlined that Japanese luk kreungs are referred to as hafu (half!), but the more PC term is daburu (underscoring the double heritage).

But the literal translation is half child. There's nothing derogatory about that.

It's really a question to ask those who are Eurasians. Parents of Eurasians are in no real position to classify their children but simply observe the mixed lifestyle that comes with being brought up in a 2 culture household.
Similarly myself I can't answer the question with any accuracy but if I was to guess, a Thai Eurasian brought up in Thai society is more likely to feel Thai, a Thai Eurasian brought up in an expat society in Thailand can feel either - or really confused - and a Thai Eurasian brought up in Western society will feel more Western. Whether people in either societies agree with them is a different kettle of fish and has caused many Eurasians anguish! For example, Morris K and Joey from Bazoo.. can you imagine what these guys went through at school... they just look black, not half anything.

She likes Paula, but that won't work with the rest of the family.
Anything to do with Paula Taylor perchance? Maybe they don't like the crazy lakorn she was in at the beginning of this year...

That's hilarious. What about koogle?

I think you scare too easily.

Roll those eyes if you must, but who would want to bring up a child up in Thai society with a name used by a falang minority that is marginalised and looked down on? Personally, Russian names are awesome. Natasha is a lovely name. And don't <deleted> me with the individualism thing... there is nothing nice about being called something equivalent to Pornsuk in the UK/US/NZ/AU.

What's wrong with the Brits teeth? Isn't everybody born with a full set of 26?
Watching too many Austin Powers films I'm afraid.
Us Brits can't deny the fact that the majority of our population's teeth are pretty awful. Mercury bunged in every cavity, teeth ripped out left, right and centre, and chronic sensitivity resulting in the remaining teeth being brown/black/yellow with a hint of pearly grey... thank goodness I spent my formative tooth filling years in Thailand But I ate too many Hello Pandas and Pocky to totally escape the chair!

Yep, Post Laser Disc...One down from The Pubb, yet one-up! Do they still have those 30-baht a beer happy hour days from 09:00 to 21:00?
They do indeed

Thai kids have been addicted to Ragnarok for at least 3 years already. Where have you been?
-
Ooo like Katia - Russian, but lovely name.
Hmm, I'd have to be pretty brave to give my kid a Russian name in Thailand

Er, nobody was dressed in swimwear in any of the places I mentioned... even Body Glove is so 90s . And I'm pretty sure the tourists were ethnic Malays as they looked neither of Indian extract nor Chinese... and there were heaps of them.
kekekekeke,
the picture on the left and centre is Kiss Channel and on the right is Paragon. All taken recently meaning what you see, is now what you can get.
As for the races, well, even Singaporean and Malaysian Chinese look different from Chinese from China as many of us are not "fair skin". In fact, we make be also mistaken to be Thais by the unsuspecting.
I have just remembered the name of the place I'd forgotten - it's the Post. Unforgettable night.

How about "Somchai" ?
'Somchai' seems to be a name that's thrown around a lot. Does it have particular connotations to be called 'Somchai'?
It means 'to be a man'. Kind of like Adam.

I always enjoyed Outlook, What's On, and the reviews of film/places to go/restaurants.

I couldn't stand having a nickname in Thailand, but as mine's so similar to my real name it was just convenient - มะลิ (jasmine). Sometimes people used to joke about my name as it was pretty similar to the fruit drink brand Malee. My sister was only known by her real name as her nickname is Dot, which in Thai is pronounced as... ตด

Okay, you can be Phloi (gem/jewel)... if you have kids, your daughter can be Praphai (Ai), and your sons can be Praphan (An), Praphot (Ot) or Praphon (On). Okay... I like Sii Paendin too much.

I think it takes balls for a Westerner to live in Thailand longer than a year, single or married, male or female. But it's an even gutsier thing to do when it's a single woman. It's also easier for a single woman to live in Thailand this century than in the 90s as the working world is no longer as dominated by males, Thai or farang.
Now I see farang men and women, and Thai women in a wider range of skilled occupations as opposed to the stock standard selection in the 90s: engineers, teachers, airline industry employees, Embassy staff and aid workers.

"Ethiopian restaurant"
The only Ethiopian people I have ever seen were on TV and starving, its hard to imagine what you could find on a Ethiopian restaurant menu.
From what I know of the country I doubt any Ethiopian could identify food on that menu with their daily diet
Ignorant fool. Ethopian food is counted amongst the best in Africa. Addis Ababa is a great city with fantastic restaurants and nightlife.
Only a great city for food if you're not one of 87% of the country living in shanty towns or slums. Besides it's pretty well recognised that most of the best Ethiopian chefs have long left the Country for pastures new. Perhaps a total lack of sanitation being the reason
But not all Ethiopians are poor, just like not all farang have money to freely spend. I blame 'charities' like World Vision Australia for propagating TVCs that feature skinny black children with flies hovering around them.

A Vietnamese dog barking is 'wo wo'. It's true, too... my partner's dog doesn't woof, it says wo wo And it doesn't understand any English.

I am skylar wherever I go and have been using the same for nearly a decade online. I took it from a character in one of the many Baby Sitter Club books I read when I lived in Bangkok. Strangely, a lot of people think it's a male name...

Seonai, have you considered training up your son for a scholarship? A few international schools in Thailand hold scholarship examinations. The United World Colleges also have scholarship examinations. Maybe even local Thai private schools and catholic schools have scholarships.
Why Did You Come To Thailand The First Time?

Hey Mark, I had no choice at all, but I made the best of it and don't regret it one bit. At least you can leave if you really want to!
