Samila Beach in Songkhla... ew. Not exactly up to the standard of Phuket with a seaport and liners dumping their waste into the area. Anyway, thre's plenty of farang in Hat Yai, but it's not touristy at all. There's decent nightlife and it's cheap. A breath of fresh air.

I think it's for either a tattoo or a bumper sticker.

I rang the Embassy today and they said that with one of these visas there is no need for a work permit and that full time study can also be done on this visa. The visa type is B-A and valid for a year, reporting every 90 days to Immigration. The contact couldn't answer if I was allowed to work at the same employer in 3 month break periods, though!

My father is 60 this year, as I approach my quarter life. I was only thinking the other day that it's a good thing my partner and I are the same age, as neither one of us will be too old for a child. It scares me to think that my father could pass away in a maximum of 20 years - I'll only be 45! A good age for a female is 30, whereas the maximum age for a male should be 35 for the first child. I'd like to have one earlier, but career choices are restraining me at the moment. Australia doesn't have very good maternity leave laws, and I'm banking on being in more demand the higher up the tree I am.

Oh, it's from The Sun. Content: 100% false.

Flew Nok to Hat Yai. Not a full flight, as the flights are a little more expensive than those of the other budget carriers (but this is to your advantage as there wasn't enough people to congest the entryways), however they left and arrived on time, are clean, comfortable, and have pre-booked seating arrangements. Food is nice. Nothing to complain about!

Does anyone know what happened to the good old Taurus / La Lunar place, right next to the Four Wings hotel on Suk 26(?)?
It used to be my fave place with a really good live band in one room, then a big club next door. Funky pool tables and huge screen TV in a cafe type area for the football as well
It shut about a year ago, and when I was there last month, the whole building has been demolished! Yikes - what a shame.
It was always packed, and wasn't cheap so must have been raking it in
Interested if anyone knows what happened?!

There was a shootout there years ago between some wealthy Thai guy's son and someone he didn't like. Nobody went there for ages and although it was hugely popular in the past, I don't think it quite got over that one. I'm suprised it didn't die sooner.

.....'international' and 'modern' translate to Tata Young and Bird Tongchai.
That is way harsh.

I've seen the bags on http://www.islanddreamcatcher.com/ and they are awesome.

Nothing about it on Pravda's website or English language forums. There is a Russian language newspaper based in Pattaya... http://members.tripod.com/~bs_news/ but using the online translator http://translation.imtranslator.net/translation.asp it says nothing useful really.

It could be sort of translated as filial piety in respect to the relationship a son/daughter has with their parent(s). But it sounds like it can apply to other relationships too and means more than that. Hmm.

There are many similarities between Thailand and the UK, not just the housing estates

7 acts for a maximum of 3,000 baht on the first day? What a rip off. And three of the acts on Day 1 are local. And I thought Australia's Big Day Out was expensive. I won't complain anymore!
-
And on this day I am running a project at SOH - anyone who has a chance to get down there will find an Australian Open event there for the next three days! It's where I'm spending this Sunday...

I'm going to Sydney's Big Day Out. Hurrah!

In Bangkok, most Thais try to cut down on living expenses in order to splurge on material goods. This is why you'll see someone with a new car/laptop/great clothes/new phone living in a hole of a house with their landline cut. I'm suprised none of you have picked this up. So yes, they are frugal with everyday expenses and not so much with luxuries.
-
That Thais look at actions and situations rather than words and make judgements based upon them - they "read into" a lot of signs. For example, in Bangkok if you walk around in hideous velcro sandals with 2 or more pieces of adidas clothing, you are most likely to be a British tourist. If you walk around town wearing a bikini/bikini like top or without a shirt you are a tourist as well as being easy. If you wear closed toe shoes in an area where everyone wears flip flops/thongs, you are not from there (and vice versa). They look at the details, whereas Westerners only see, really.
Oh, and that Thailand is a multicultural society, just not in the same way it is in the UK, Australia or the States.

What is quote? And ballpark quote? Anyone?

Thai Airways ends Sydney to Phuket flights
...and 11 Bangkok-Melbourne flights plus Bangkok-Melbourne flights.

Heaps of Japanese sat for that test... although I shouldn't be suprised.

When I lived in Thailand it was outrageous when the baht to the pound jumped from 34 to mid-60s during the Asian Economic Crisis.
-
The difference between mine and VNA is that it's return, not one way. You missed that detail. Wouldn't want you booking my flight :b
-
That is one way... if you are on a budget, you can do it return through Singapore for at least 10,000 baht easily using a combination of Tiger Airways (Singapore - HCMC) and Air Asia (Bangkok - Singapore).

should be easy if a) doesn't have any tab-running drinking buddies and does not drink alcohol himself. Break the rules and pay the price
