  1. I don't love how people often repeat "tuktuks are cheap" when they are the single most expensive form of transport per km in the whole of Thailand !

How much should a 1km trip in a tuk cost? How about a 2km trip and 3km? Same question for 2 wheel motorbike taxi, if they exist. If you happen to know the Thai price and the ferang price, please quote both.

  2. DP25 i agree with you. Great post.

however... Yes there are bar girls in Pattaya, and lots of foreigners think that because the bars are famous, that's the the only thing in Pattaya! That's ludicrous!! Pattaya has a significant economy that has nothing to do with sex. There are a lot of normal girls nearby pattaya, many of which put pattaya as their location.

Some tourists to Asia are f***ing paranoid. Unless you have no judgement on how to spot bad people, in such case you should be worried.

  3. Hi, I live 10 km South of Khorat, there's. A new resort name Tokio, I km from me, rate about 350' it's new and plush, a little quiet, but on the baht taxi run, 8 Bht to the Mall, about every hour. If you mean in the city, they are 600 to 900 Bht

Why not rent a room in city, my pal got one for 2k a month, a couple of years ago. It was only a short walk from the Mall

I live on rungnirun. 8 nr Saranari university. I am British by the way, retired, and spend the winters here, and summers in UK.

    Hope this helps.

    Les

Nice. So why did you pick korat?

Can you recommend some western owned restaurants in the city?

  4. Can you recommend a cheap place to stay? Lower the better as my trip is 5 months long and I prefer not to blow the budget in expensive hotels.

Trolling posts will be reported and removed. Thank you!

  5. I used to get mice in my home in winter. I bought an electrical "pestbay" deterrent and they have never returned. It's a much nicer way to get rid of vermin than poison, which potentially leaves rotting rats hidden near your home. It cost me £26 delivered to UK.

  6. First regardless of what some posters say KK and Isaan is not necessarilly cheap for many items. Case in point you can rent a new Honda Click in Pattaya for instance for 100 baht per day but in KK you will pay 300 per day. Tuktuks will charge more for you if they can get away with it.

Hotels are actually better value in Phuket than in KK.

There are some nice things about KK but don't believe all the bullocks about it being cheaper than elsewhere.

Speaking of <deleted>, let's look at what you said about hotels. I'm staying in a great room in khon Kaen for 250 per day with TV and my own bathroom.

Just up the road is a room for 300 a day with hot shower and aircon, TV etc.

As for motorbike rental in Pattaya, where and when did you rent for 100? In 2015 most places want 200 a day.

All my prices assume 1 day, not monthly rates.

  7. So is it more expensive than Udon Thani ?

Also how do the other cities in Isaan compare?

Any tips for arriving at the Khon Kaen bus station would be helpful.........

I think so, not as much Competition, Hotels are more expensive in KK

I do not agree at all. I found a Thai hotel for 300 with hot shower aircon, TV, big bed. And another place for 250 where I'm now staying.

  8. Plenty of tuk tuks in KK cheap as chips last time i was there i got the number of driver when i needed a lift just gave him a bell especially at off peak times

Depends what you mean... EG. 60 baht for a 1km trip... if you take 4 a day that's 240 on transport... that's as much as I would spend in an expensive city in europe on a train card. However, if he takes 20 baht for 1km... that seems about right.

So can you expand... how much are you paying tuktuks?

  9. I'm looking for a room for 400 per night, with coin laundry and if possible motorbike rental.

Will i need a motorbike to get around in kk?

Any info on motorcycle rental actually would be good, then I can just drive around the city and find a place to stay.

  10. ^ Yeah.. but it's pretty ghetto. I get the feeling that the OP is more of a traveller / backpacker type, and if that's the case then any of the small guesthouses will work better.

Yea but such a fun and friendly ghetto, I would choose it for it's local CM funkiness, access to everywhere, .... depends on the op , you may be right , he may prefer the GHs of the farang ghetto.

I'm definitely a light traveller. I'm not a backpacker since backpacks are not good for my back. Capeche?

I'll try that thai ghetto and see what the farange ghetto looks like while I'm in the city. Then I can move if I like the other better. ;)

A tesco nearby is great. Any place with a salad bar... that's also a plus. But I don't wear hemp sandals or have dreadlocks. I just happen to like salad! ;) And girls.

  11. So I tried Thailovelines. Because hey why not? Guess what? It feels like it has not been updated since 1998.

Search is clunky and misses crucial info like "weight". Pictures are too small. There is no photo viewer. And worst of all? There are far fewer girls on it than other sites.
