174 baht. http://www.railway.co.th/Ticket/ChackPrice_TrainGo.asp?Sta=นครราชสีมา&Fin=อยุธยา&IdTrain=140&NFee=เร็ว&Ori=Nakhon%20Ratchasima&Dep=Ayutthaya&lenguage=eng
174 Baht !!!!!!!! yes! So why was I charged 400 flicking baht?!
It's not a joke... how are you supposed to deal with this situation? I told her it was too expensive, walked off, then came back in 10 minutes to confirm, she still wanted 400?! What is this bullcrap !?
Railway.co.th link made into a working link:
Can you please give me the start page for checking fares? Because I can't figure out how to do it. The website is horrible.
-
anyone?
-
Please see the timetable. 400 baht is too much in an air conditioned compartment, plus a decent meal?
You must be one of these "quality tourists".
why was I overcharged? how can I prevent it from happening again?
have you ever taken this route? your link mentions nothing of the price, so for all I can tell, 400 might be the correct price!

Thank you v much
I used your suggestion and will go with something more in my budget, seems good if you're not fussy, in case other people are looking at the same route:
Market Motel 350 b / night
105 / 30 - 32 Raduthit Road | (Aran Market), Aranyaprathet -
I am a UK citizen. I am in Thailand now.
I have a 30 day visa exemption, which was extended once. I have to leave by 1st of March. I will do so. I will go to Cambodia for 2 weeks, then back to Thailand, then to Malaysia for a week or so, then back to Thailand again. Is this all legal without visiting any visa offices in advance?

Can you recommend some training centres for a CELTA (tefl) course.

Which border is the one the train from bangkok takes you near?
-
Blimey, so many options. Which one can I do right now without paying more than 500 baht and actually works really well? (Setting up tiresome proxys or hola, that work sometimes, is not a solution.)
I know how torrents work but it's not good at finding stuff you haven't heard of yet.
Kodi looks good. Can someone write a guide on how to use it?
Thats clearly not 'the easy way' !! Posting hardware, multiple accounts, calling people to rest boxes.. Jeez..
Just install hola plug in on a browser.. Or theres a multitude of streaming services are available for small $$..
Or simply learn to install kodi and use add ons like FTV, gemini, etc..

I have been dinged twice at that spot. They are targeting people who cut straight across Changklan Rd on Loi Kroh. Only a right turn is permitted at that intersection. Both times I have been nicked they sent me to the police station for a 200 baht fine. So they are not on the take, unlike the police on Tha Phae just W of the bridge. I have been stopped there twice too, both times for nothing, and both times paid tea money (400 baht each).
I have also cut across instead of turning right as you supposed to. I always looked around for sneaky cops first though. Did you?

I arrived on the scene before midnight on Thursday 12th Feb 2015. The car finished sinking shortly after midnight. All passenger(s) seemed to make it out without serious injury. Hopefully the girl was treated properly for shock and made a full recovery, but I don't know.
A girl from the car is on the left of the picture, on the sidewalk. Poor girl was soaking wet and upset. I did not see how the car got into the moat.

To break up the trip, can you suggest a Thai town with a good cheap place to stay near the boarder? Is it then possible to easily continue into Siem Reap?
-
I actually thought my directions were clear enough as I was thinking as a newbie when I replied. I quite enjoy trying to help people but are not fussed with bottle feeding them.
Sometimes one needs to get off ones backside and do a bit of exploring. It's amazing what one can find and you generally remember the location for next time.
Gd luck in your travels.
yeah right mate totally agree let's delete the damn forums and get the off the internet huh! whats the point in having forums if your replies are crap, oh wait that was just an excuse because you suck at giving directions.
maybe you think the best use of thaivisa is making childish jokes and wasting time, god forbid once in a while someone wants some actual advice about a place!
as it happens I am not as mobile as most people, not that that is any of your business.
-
Thanks. You would think that when I said it was my first day in the city the other posts / directions would have been clearer.
Is there a song tao from Thapae Gate to there?
-
Anyone got a route map?
-
Go towards the big hill....Icon shopping center has a shop called Amorn Electronics. Its on the right as you face Doi Suthep and well before the corner of the moat. Make sure you are on the outside road of the moat. lots of cables there
Thx...... But can you give me something i can use to find it on google maps please?
-
need one for data, 7-11 cable isn't up to it.
i'm near the east gate, first day in Chiang Mai.

I brought a few Aussie mosquito plugs same as yours, except they have angled pins. I overcame your problem by using a small 3-pin power board; also handy when recharging everything else from camera to shaver.
Can you post a picture? Also, Where you buy it?

I never used to use my local McDonald's back home, but started to use the toilet occasionally when in the area. After a while I started ordering food there and became a regular customer.
Businesses spend huge amounts on advertising and promotion to get people in the door, then they do stupid things like treat customers badly. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. There is no greater advertising than treating people well, especially if you don't know them. You never know what recommendation or custom they'll give later.

The ones I've seen, like in 7eleven, are not small. They have excess bulk around the 3 / 4 sockets and around 2m of cable. Not great for a small backpack.
-
I travel very light and the mosquito plug in vapor deterrent /killer, a nice compact heater for 1 inch blue disposable cards.
Only thing is, the heating element is fixed to the plug and when ever used in Thailand, the power socket forces it to be on its side.
I need to find a very small item that will rotate the plug 90 degrees left or right. Any idea?
-
Oh you get a decent meal, that explains the ticket price.
-
It seems the train has no openair carriage and I was given a the worst seat in the carriage, maybe I'm just a grumpy guts. Enjoy the ride. I'll move when the train starts, let's see if I can get away with it. ...

400 seems expensive so is there really no cheaper ticket on that train?
How to check train price?
