  1. The mall has wifi from dtac and true. You need to register, I have no idea how it works. It seems true have the same system as bangkok airport, which was so annoying I gave up.

Just get a dtac SIM card and register to unlimited 3G for 59 baht - 1 week. Total bargain. ask in any dtac shop.

  2. Thank you so much. Can you suggest any affordable guest houses / hotels in any of those towns, or are there likely to be several ?

Alternatively, I can just look online I guess... most places are on the internet these days right.

Here in Udon Thani I noticed the public transport is not the main means of transport for normal Thais - they tend to have their own motorbike. This makes me think I will need to rent one in any town I visit if I want to get about properly, since the tuktuks are bad value.

  3. Can you recommend a Chiang Mai hotel for this price please.

It will be first visit to the city, so it would be welcomed - a bit of advice on nice areas to visit. I like markets, and places not loud where you can talk to people.

  4. I need two teachers. All the applicants so far have not been qualified or native speakers. So, i would say the demand for experienced native speakers is high.

Note: I am of the opinion that a 1 month qualification with no experience is not qualified.

Do you mean to say that all your applicants have been non-native speakers? (As well as having a qualification below what you require?)

If this is the case, then I suspect you might need to hire either a native speaker with a 1 month qualification, or a highly qualified non-native speaker.

Sounds like it wouldn't be too hard for a Brit like myself to find work then.

If I may deviate slightly from the topic, what standard of qualification are you looking for? And how much more will you pay for someone with a better qualification?

I'm asking to figure out the potential return on my potential investment.

  5. I go to the Mall in Bangkapi.....most of the stuff there is reasonable....got some good jeans the other week for 800 Baht.

If you want cheaper try the markets and bargain hard.

    Thanks for your reply!

Is it hard to bargain as a white person? I think they tend to view me as rich and therefore don't want to budge on price much.

I'm from London where the middle eastern influence taught me to bargain but I found it pretty hard in Bangkok especially with the language barrier.

  6. I landed in Bangkok and Thailand on 1st January.

    I'm now in Udon Thani.

I'd like to stay in Thailand until the end of February, possibly March or April, outside chance of staying until May.

Question 1. Can I get a 1 month extension in Udon Thani or Chiang Mai?

    2. If not, the most cost effective way is going to Vientiane? I heard its pretty bad value for hotels and transport, and I don't want to catch bed bugs.

    3. How much would the visas i might go for cost?

    Thank you!!!
