  1. How about for Dental procedures? I'm planning to have some dental work done in Thailand around March.

I'm not a dentist but for small dental procedures such as tooth or plaque removal, dental filling or orthodontic anchorage, any street dental clinics will give a very reasonable price, probably 5 times cheaper than what you pay for in usa or australia.

Unless you want extreme quality where you are ensured to get big money in law suit, then you'll need to go to Bumrungraj or bangkok hospital.

  2. Now I suddenly understand Thai-men much better! They are just doing like Buddha.

Of couse, not only you understand them, you are talking like a typical Thai. The questions that have been raised here can be found in any Thai forum, be it pantip.com guru.google.co.th. If you can read any of it, you'll be please to know that general Thai also ask the same questions.

These are not the kind of question any farangs foreign to Thai environment would care to raise. They are raised by a concerned Thai so that people become aware of some bad habits they themselves practice.

So welcome to being Thai. cheesy.gif

  3. Why do Thai blokes flush the urinal before taking a piss?

Funny man, I was curious also so I have asked one friendly Thai guy in tennis court's toilet.

He answered he doesn't know why he does it but he remembered this came in his primary school, where the school teacher told to pupils, they have to do this reason their own health and hygiene.

This is a huge wasting of water cause in "man" section all of them do it.

Thai kids are taught at primary school that a typical Thai squat toilet must have water poured before a crap. (It helps prevent the crap sticking to the porcelain when it is flushed).

Because this is inculcated from an early age it sticks in their mind to do it, but the reason for doing it has been forgotten. Hence they often will be seen flushing the urinal before use.

This is a prime example of just how effective brainwashing is when started at an early age. It becomes automatic throughout life. The Roman Catholic Church used this technique to great effect. "Give us a child until it is 8yrs of age and we will have it for life", was their mantra.

You flush the urinal because sometimes other people forgot to flush after they finish their business. If you pee, don't you worry that sometimes the splashe would cause other people residul urine to come in contact with your genital. If you don't know that and think it's a brain washed thing, you'll be please to know that might be how you've gotten that blisters on your genital.

  4. Uhm...hate to comment on this one, because I also work part time at BKK hospital. Btw for imaging study, if you don't want to pay farang price, prachchuen imaging center is a good candidate for you. They have many branches throughout Thailand. I also work there and at the moment of this writing, I'm in my office. I can assure you that there is no farang price. You pay the same rate thai people without any form of insurrance pay.

  5. Grace => the free and unmerited favor of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings

I'm a Buddhist not a christian but I takes it's the opposite of sin. We have a clear definition of sin in Thai, I'm sure you can find the translation somewhere. If not, it's บาป.

Now all you need to do is ask Thai people what the antonym of sin is in Thai and that would be your definition of grace (according to the Buddhist belief).

If you really want to know grace according to the christian bible, you can't ask any Thai. You need to go to church and ask people there.

Thanks, but I don't think 'Grace is the opposite of 'sin'.

I'd really like to translate it using สิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ .

Uhm..as a native speaker, สิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ would sound wierd. I don't know. Why don't you write down your complete translation first? And we'll see if it's alright.

Thai language is closely tied to buddhism but not christianity. From reading the meaning of grace as described by many native english speakers here, I doubt we Thai have a special word made for grace in the context of christianity. You'll probably need to combine different words in Thai in order to appropriately convey the true meaning of grace.

  6. ดิฉัน ไม่ใช่ คนไทย

    Dee-shan mai-chai kon-Thai

    ดิฉัน เป็น คนฟิลิปปินส์
    Dee-shan pen kon-philipine.

    เธอ ไม่ใช่ คนไทย

    Ter mai-chai kon-Thai

    เธอเป็นคนฟิลิปปินส์

    Ter pen kon-philipine

  7. All adult umbilical hernia should be repaired due to high risk of complication. Not sure why those hospitals will not accept your insurrance but it probably a good idea to find places to have it repaired.

If you dont mind the wait and long line, saundok hospital aka maharaj hospital will definitely resolve your problem. It might be helpful to ask your thai friend to call them up to see if they will accept your insurrance. I can garantee you that most if not all surgeons in all private hospitals in chiangmai used to work or currently work there.

  9. All I want to say is questions can sometimes reflex the inner thought of the person who raises them.

I laughed not because I found they are made by stupid (farang) people but because these questions show me what they are made of.

In the eyes of pessimists, laughing means an insult instead of a genuine friendly expression.

I don't know why but series of negative questions arose after I made one or two sentences and those were "you guys are cracking me up...please keep it coming."

Anyway, please keep it coming - so that I could be sure some of you are here because you're not wanted or couldn't make it in your country. cheesy.gif

  10. If I want to know about cheap beer, bars, hamburgers etc I ask farangs.

White people pay 100bht for a small beer.

Thais pay 130bht for 3 large beers.

Best not to ask white people about anything, they are foolish with their money.

What I would like to ask Thai people.

Why are so many of your women hookers? ...... never dared though.

    5555 cheesy.gif

Dude, it's call 7/11. From what you are saying, you probably don't have 7/11 in your country.

Beers served in strip bar and whore house in the US and europe are more expensive than those you find in any regular stores.

I often laugh as they ask me how long I've been here then after I tell them 20 years, they ask, "do you like it"?

I could ask myself on Panthip but if you really want to post a question - "why do nearly all Thais I ask not like Indians when Lord Buddha was from India?"

I am sure people in jeruzalem 2000 years ago are the same group of people you find there today. cheesy.gif

  11. Only thing I never understood about some Thai-parents, is how they can live with sending their daughters work in GoGo bars - and call them constantly for to have them send more and more money (even after they have built the house and bought the pick-up truck).

How they as parents can do that and live with themselves, I will never understand... Maybe you can ask that? Personally, I would rather work myself to death, than send my daughter into prostitution. But I guess these parents will not be members of that site anyway...

Most of the time they don't know, as it entails massive loss of face in the village. Those who do find out usually fall out with their kids.

No parents in Thailand send their kids to sell their body in order to support them - that's a myth (that I've seen twice conveyed in Western documentaries about the country, shockingly enough).

And may I also add that please don't forget to tell what you did today to your daughter, khunpa? I'm sure it'll make her feel really proud of you.

  12. Then you are living in a la la land. You probably think parents hate their own children when you see the kids get punished.

When I see parents hitting their children here in Thailand (which I sometimes see), then I think that the parents are stupid, under-educated and should never had had children... They for sure do not get my respect.

I'm sure many Thai parents hit their own children in public place....for you to see 555.

I'm sure that the terms "get punished" only means hitting spanking for you -- which tells me the kind of a person you are.

  13. I respect all people on this planet, no matter culture, skin color and religions etc... And I do this, until they show me disrespect. If e.g. a Thai thinks I am a naive and stupid Farang, then I will think the same of him/her.

For me, Thai people are very different and all are unique in their own personal way. (just like all other people in this world) I always judge and respect people based on their personality - not their nationality.

You get very far with just using common sense, when it comes to integrating into another culture.

What you are saying doesn't help if you have low self esteem. How do you know what other people think, unless you can read their mind? Not too many people will say out right you are stupid.

  14. Why is it okay to point your feet directly at the face of somebody, when having a foot massage - while in all other situations it is considered to be very disrespectful?

I'm sure you point your feet directly at your mother's face all the time. And she probably loves it when you do. 555

  15. For me, as a Thai, I would like to the see the old and wise farangs (expats) provide their extensive knowledge about what democracy really is to Thai people. It's not true that just because you don't have a right to vote, you can't change anything. And by promoting the correct idea of how liberty and freedom could be the result of democracy, you'd be doing yourself lots of goods in the long run. No more stupid idea like foreign business act, which doesn't really work because the use of nominee. You can own lands or any piece of properties with your name on it.

No Thais I know have any interest in politics. They vote for whoever pays them and that's it.

You are entitled to your opinion and things that you say tell something about the kind of person you are. 555

  16. I live for money of course. And the fun of making it.

I suggest if you get bored, why not try putting 50% of your life saving into one football match. I can assure you that match will definitely turn your thinking around 360 degrees.
