  1. Hypothetically complicated and in need of professional advice. Much more info needed.

    I know...that's why I posted :D

Basically, I could work remotely in Thailand (hence the need for a WP)...But all my clients, bank account into which I'm paid by money tansfers (BACS) and the occasional cheque, are in the UK.

If I spent over 183 abroad in a tax year (6th April to 5th April), for UK purposes I am classed as a non-UK tax-payer, but I understand I would need to pay some tax on UK income.

If for tax purposes I was classed as a Thai resident, I would be liable to income tax on the income which was remitted to Thailand, but I may apply for liability on each particular £ of income to be reduced by any uk income tax paid on that £. I would not receive a refund if the uk tax rate exceeds the thai tax rate.

If however, I spent less than 180 days in Thailand I wouldn't be classed as a resident for tax purposes... :D

Before anyone gets on their high-horse...What I'm trying to do is MINIMISE my tax liablities, not AVOID paying tax altogether :o

There is a UK tax helpline on: 0845 0700 040. But I dread phoning it :D

    Many thanks.

  2. Yeah when I collected my ticket on TG Biz bought with ROP airmiles the cash I hadto pay was more than first quoted.

I was told it because the 700THB is now incorporated and nothing to pay upon leaving.

It was actually cheaper than 700THB though is converted to Singapore Dollars ;-)))

When I booked my ticket on Thai, the UK travel agent said the tax was paid, at BKK airport they said it wasn't on the ticket...But can't be bothered to chase up 1400 baht for me and my mate..I think more aggro than it's worth :o

  3. Anybody else?

My mum is being quoted £1,400 to fly from Spain to Thailand so she's also looking at the possibility of flying to the UK then on to Thailand which seems the cheaper but potentially more risky option given the terrorist/snow/delay problems...

I've got to go to a wedding in Rome in June and wanted to travel onwards to Bangkok...

Phoned around this week and even the travel agent at E-Bookers suggested by far the cheapest way would be to get a "cheapo" return and then another ticket to Bangkok...via Rome was about £1600...

I believe your Mum will find it MUCH less expensive that way...(by about a £1000...which isn't so much money in the UK these days but is a hel_l of a lot of baht :o )

By the way..to answer the original post...recently paid about £575, direct flight on Thai, (including cc charge and full Thai miles) from WesteastTravel...came back to the UK 3 days ago.

  4. A hypothetical situation:

A UK national runs a business, with a WP in Thailand, working for UK-based companies. The money earned is paid into a UK bank account and remitted to Thailand...But you spend less than 180 days in Thailand...And less than 183 days in the UK...

What would your tax situation be? :o

  5. I've seen a few adverts for houses in Koh Samui...which are "sort of" what you're after...will have a look for the links...

They might be able to help you out with contractors etc:

    http://www.real-samui-properties.com/detail.php?id=260

Thanks for that RAZZELL, as stunning as this property is I have to agree with turnip when he says how he likes these styles but can't help but keep going back to the more pure Bauhaus styles - the price of that first house in the link is ludicrous don't you think?? B18,000,000!!! That is a heck of a lot of money!

Yeah...a joke...but I reckon you could build one (not including land) for about 3 or 4 million.

  6. Yeah, where is the arse wallpaper ??

How much did that house cost to build ?

Would you be able to repeat that same success in your home country?

Or you flex your muscles in the places where people work for 160-220 baht a day?

Are you insulting me for building a home? For wanting to spend my money in the place I intend to retire and support my Thai family? The workers who I've supported for over a year are friends of the family (and make better wages than you seem to think is fair). They were delighted I decided to "flex my muscles" in their village. The bedroom I added for my ailing father in law seemed to go over well also.

    So go fukc yourself.

Well said :o And nice house :D

  7. highdiver tks four your posts, what do you mean exactly with :

"if you look at samui you understand why this loop hole must be changed."

My personal point of view and suggestion to close once for all the Co.Ltd

set up with nominee would be to legalize the land ownership (free market)

to individual single investor (no developer or real estate company) till 1 rai (or Half Rai)

and allow to put the name of the person on Land title.

You eventually pay a new add. ownership tax on it

and foreign could buy only 1 property under their name no more.

    (avoid or minimize the speculation)

    OR

Allow to buy as per above criteria only in certain

    commercial / tourist place.

Sound much easier and good tax benefit for the Govt.

The question is IF the Govt. wants clear up and make it easier....

or they prefer keep all in the grey area to turn the rules as they want

when they want, which is typical unfair....

What's wrong with a free-market? Works in most places in the rest of the world? :o
