  1. If they were not breaking the law...why were they evicted?

Bribing a crooked city official doesn't give you the right to exploit the beach and force tourists into using the service.

According to Mr.Chaowalit Saeng-u-tai-deputy chief of Chonburi 50% were illegal and the rest were operating outside their designated area.

    Can't you read?

  2. 5% isn't great, but not terrible either.

I'm not sure the Thai guarantor will work - it might. Would def. work if in the Thai person's name, e.g. they buy it.... generally as a foreigner they want to see you have a work permit and job.

Its terrible! Remember this is a flat calculation which is the equivalent of 10% calculated on principal owed. Also paying off in advance does not forgive interest due.

Yep. No early pay off on the loan.

I guess that is why you see some second hand bikes advertised for more than new!

These guys want to recover the interest on the loan + all the needless accessories they bought.

  3. Btw, you just pulled a boner, there was nothing illegal about the agreements, licensing and regulations signed with the City.

    Nonsense.

According to Mr.Chaowalit Saeng-u-tai-deputy chief of Chonburi, Pattaya officials are now evicting beach operators that didn’t have legal permission.

In addition almost all operators had broken the rules by operating out of their permitted area, exploiting the public area, preventing tourists from enjoying the beach.

  4. My brief survey can be verified by taking a look for yourself. The new open areas were crowded and the adjacent chair areas had very few when I inspected.

Those 'poor individuals' were evicted because they made illegal deals with criminals from city hall and stole the public beach.

Still there are too many umbrella concessions in my view but if people enjoy sitting on those filthy stinking chairs drenched in dogpiss ... Up to them.

  5. Are you considering Naklua? Some places right on the beach over there and a nicer ambiance I think.

    Had not thought about it

Look for ease to get there

Want to use Bell service to get there from Suvarnabhumi

Bus into Pattaya North then Van directly to hotel

I like Naklua better for families. Jomtien is OK but the place is a bit rundown & more sleaze.

The hotels in Naklua have their own beaches that are kept cleaner.

The amazing Mirage may be out of the budget but GOOGLE Naklua Agoda to see what else is available.

Should be easy to arrange airport pickup.

    Mirage Naklua

  6. The vote is in!

    Yesterday I surveyed the beach.

There was a nice 100 meter stretch with NO UMBRELLAS and a quik count, about 75 people.

An adjacent area WITH UMBRELLAS had around 6 or 8 people.

A vast majority of tourists prefer the open areas.

  7. Thailand is a common destination for oil field workers. Immigration hasn't figured that out?

I could agree, but how is an Immigration Officer supposed to recognize a "oil worker"

from a guy who lives 1 month Thailand, 1 month Cambodia, 1 month Thailand, ... ?

"About 1 month in every 2 months" is not enough to know how they live and work.

Immigration needs to put on their thinking cap and do something for these people from the oil fields.

Rub 2 brain cells together, just for 10 minutes or so.

Make some criteria so these "quality tourists" that they love so much ...don't get harassed by some moody Immigration cop.

As ubonjoe mentioned "As long as you can show 10,000 baht in cash and other proof that you are not working here they do not have any basis for denying entry."

  8. The number are right on. Quit denying empirical evidence. This aint FOX news here.whistling.gif

Lets look at them one at a time.

Reagan: There was a small national debt before President Reagan but it was during his term that the national debt began its explosion.

The Reagan ‘miracle’ was simply due to fact that his administration got the first-mover advantage in the debt super cycle.

The Gipper was the perfect front man for the banksters scheme. Reagan, was one of the most corrupt in history, remember arms for hostages, funding terrorists, giving amnesty to 3 million illegal aliens, unemployment 11%, raising taxes on middle class, tripling debt.... A disaster

Bush Sr. Got us into wars, ran up the debt. 1 term president. Remember his campaign promise NO NEW TAXES... well he raised taxes on middle class.

Clinton balance the budget and ran a surplus. The national debt still accumulated during his term.

Bush Jr. Don't try to outFOX us and rationalize the 8 years of destruction that Bush Jr wrought on this once great nation. Nuff said.

To be REALLY fair, we should point out that Bush — who was a giant clusterf*** — inherited an economy that was running a surplus, and turned it into a deficit.

Obama inherited a giant shit show, just as the collapse was in full throat he turned the economy around & is knocking down the deficit. Around 40 days after he took office, The USA began the greatest economic expansion in history.

  9. 66.4% of the debt belongs to the Bushes and Reagan. + The burden they put on Clinton.

    13.2% Reagan

    10.5% Bush Sr.

    9.8% Clinton

    42.7% Bush Jr.

    16,8% Obama

+ 7% to all combined presidents prior to Reagan.

NOTE: Clinton balance the budget but the Reagan/Bush debt accumulated 9.8% during Clintons term.

Obama was forced into debt to bail out the GW Bush banking fiasco and finish 2 Bush wars.

Give us a link. I would like to see where this rubbish is coming from.

    A link?

Google it. These are the numbers. Read em and weep.

The FOX viewers always pop a vessel when presented with the numbers.

It's like they live in a separate universe.

  11. If you like "character", there is always the Florida Hotel on Suk. Soi 2, near Ploen Chit BTS.

Used as a location for many movies because of it's unaltered '70's exterior,

Aggressively "un-friendly" to accompanying Thai ladies; sometimes refuse entry to westerners legitimate wives. Desk staff not know for warmth and hospitality.

Reportedly, if pre-paid on a booking site, they will still demand an extra $10 or so on check-in. (report on Trip-Advisor)

    How's that for a recommendation?

It is The Atlanta Hotel on Soi 2.

"The Atlanta is not interested in dissenting public opinion or what the business world calls 'customer feedback'.

The Atlanta does not ask for or listen to explanations or excuses, and does not apologise for the manner in which miscreants are thrown out.cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

    From their website.

    BANGKOK'S HISTORIC HOTEL & INSTITUTION

BASTION OF WHOLESOME, CULTURALLY SENSITIVE & ECO-AWARE TOURISM

    SEX TOURISTS NOT WELCOM

    ZERO TOLERANCE OF

TROUBLE-MAKERS, ALL ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES INCLUDING POSSESSION OR USE OF ILLICIT DRUGS

FAMILIES ARE VERY WELCOME ONLY IF CHILDREN ARE KEPT UNDER CONTROL

THE ATLANTA IS NOT A CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND: CHILDREN MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO DISTURB OTHER GUESTS

The Atlanta is run on conservative principles and fosters traditional values.

The Atlanta does not hesitate to refuse rooms to persons unsuited to the prevailing ethos of The Atlanta – even if they have a confirmed reservation.

1/ The Atlanta does not welcome SEX TOURISTS, and does not try to be polite about it.

Borderline cases are not given the benefit of the doubt, but are treated as sex tourists.

Those who are borderline cases should stay elsewhere.

Guests who attempt to bring in bargirls, catamites and their like will be told in plain language to settle their bills and leave.

Remaining on the premises after being told to leave will be treated as a police matter.

The Atlanta does not ask for or listen to explanations or excuses, and does not apologise for the manner in which miscreants are thrown out.

The Atlanta also does not apologise for any mistakes it may be accused of having made with regard to the identification of sex tourists.

To keep The Atlanta private, secure, wholesome and sleaze-free for the kind of guests we welcome, room guests are not permitted to take visitors / outsiders upstairs into the building and their rooms, or into the garden and pool area.

Exceptions may be made in appropriate circumstances at the management's discretion.

Suitable visitors / outsiders may be entertained in the restaurant.

2/ The Atlanta operates a "ZERO TOLERANCE " policy regarding

    • TROUBLE-MAKERS,
    • POSSESSORS AND USERS OF ILLICIT DRUGS and
    • ALL OTHER ILLEGAL AND NEFARIOUS ACTIVITIES

3/ The Atlanta also does NOT WELCOME

    • UNDOMESTICATED PEOPLE – the sort of people whose conduct and appearance give tourists in general and their compatriots in particular a bad name.

When The Atlanta states 'NOT WELCOME', The Atlanta means it. There will be no politeness about it.

4/ The Atlanta welcomes FAMILIES and prides itself on its child-friendly staff, but families are welcome only if CHILDREN are KEPT UNDER REASONABLE CONTROL.

The Atlanta is not a playground for children: children must not be allowed to disturb other guests. Families that do not keep their children under control will be told to settle their bill and leave in no uncertain manner.

5/ The Atlanta particularly welcome guests who like PETS and ANIMALS.

The Atlanta is home to many rescued cats, terrapins and one dog, all of which are well cared for. The garden of The Atlanta is also home to many squirrels, birds, etc. However, guests are not allowed to bring in pets or other rescued animals. The Atlanta already has too many rescued animals on the premises.

Visitors who object to any of The Atlanta's policies or who intend to spend their time in Thailand whoring, behaving badly, indulging in alcohol abuse and illicit drugs should stay elsewhere. The Atlanta is not that kind of place.

Tourism is not about going on a rampage through other people's country: those who cannot travel abroad without behaving badly should stay home.

On these policies, The Atlanta is not interested in dissenting public opinion or what the business world calls 'customer feedback'.

The Atlanta caters to a certain kind of clientele and that is the end of the matter.

    No discussion. No compromise.
