Makes me wonder how many Thais are seething with this level of anger under the surface.
Unfortunately there are a lot of them like this. You see it everyday caught on camera. How many do we NOT see which are NOT caught on camera. There is so little regard for life in this country and this includes the government with their total disregard for traffic deaths. All they do is talk about doing something, but they never do.
How about the story of the old man who stomped his 40 something lover to death at a party the other day because she wouldn't give him 100 baht she had earned that day for helping wash dishes or something and not one person lifted a hand to help her. This is a very sick country and I can't wait to leave as soon as a few lose ends are tied up.
Agreed..process of selling my bikes--tixs booked--out in 10 days--check bin krup!

Leave the poor bastard alone and get used to it. I have what sounds like a very large one in the garden a few feet from my window. It's the same with soi dogs barking at night. Nothing can be done about it so learn not to dwell on it and it just becomes part of the night sounds of living in Chiang Mai. Like the tuk tuks that delivers some working girls home to the apartment block opposite my place about 3 am. Sometimes I'm not sure what is louder - the tuk tuk or the girls. As I said, it is just part of the night sounds of Chiang Mai.
Yep....And THATS why im leaving..ive reached my limit...im done..tixs booked--2 weeks to go...
Can keep your dogs...geckos...tuk tuks..loud bargirls..noisy clubs..yada..yada...enough..check bin krup..
(saved a few of you the usual "then leave..etc..." "ill send a taxi"..go home farang...done and done)
Its part of the "night sounds" cos ppl allow it to be..im sure my neighbors and thier noisy dogs will be glad.

Its so easy to draw conclusions:
for example I have never had food poisoning or anything like it in the 7yr I have been in Thailand.
I eat street food regularly; and cheaper end restaurants; I cook at home in an outside kitchen with moths, flying ants, jingjok poo where you cant see it, I shop at the market, tesco and makro.
I never shop at Rimping; Tops nor do I care to eat at mid to high price range restaurants.
I am a habitual fingernail biter and pretty much hands on diy and gardening.
conclusion: (from the above) I have a pretty good tolerance to bugs OR dont shop or eat at upmarket places!!!!
Yes of course thats a ridiculous conclusion...............................................and so is putting Rimping on the chopping block; completely unfair and unfounded OP
I can attest that they DO in fact need to be on the chopping block as i was a CHEF there--years ago
I was the one to launch the now seen prepared foods dept--and yep my items are still there as they promised not to sell..anyway..i personally witnessed unsafe handling--flies(which they gave me a FLY SWATTER) and improper storage(frozen fish on the walk in floors) I also sold food at unsafe temps
and refused to serve seafood until it was fixed--it wasnt..the cooling unit leaked water as well...
LEK is the manager and a nasty man indeed, or can try to go above him and track down Pairoj..one of the bosses...needless to say i quit after 5 months...IMO it was just about $$$ never about safety there...

Sometimes I do have a laugh with some of the Nation's articles.
What has to do the Thais income with elections this year?
I do understand that they are in trouble as they have no sense of financial responsibilities and they borrow money as there is no tomorrow,
but elections or not elections will not help them.
Some education could help them, but this is also too late.
Hard to manage finances on less than 15k a month.
And that's the Thais with educations.
Without education less than 300bht/day,
I think I would give up too.
There is an old saying, "You should cut your coat according to your cloth".
Many Thai people survive on 15K or less per month, but it gives them little leeway if they insist on having the latest smartphone or the biggest widescreen TV. As a farang, I would find it almost impossible to manage on that amount, but there are many on this forum who have said they have done so, and good for them.
As long as people are conned into buying the latest whatever by borrowing money, they will be in debt.
H.M. the King advocated a sufficiency economy and many rural Thais try and follow his wisdom.
I live on 300 a day or at least strive to...my fan room is 2500 and try to keep my power bills within 500 so my monthly cost is 3000---thats 100 a day
I bought a used honda and will resell it when i go-this allows 100 per day with gas
then food...3x35 baht meals on street........my room has tv and cable so alot of movie watching
and used book reading--also have internet to cehck in with the TV crowds.....
and give or take a little but its basically 300 a day--i live a very simple boring life
but i buy used clothes--own nothing new--but i have no debt and have my freedom
i sleep well at night.....debt is slavery--limits your freedoms--but thats just me....

to all you morons who like thai bashing you are a guest in their country try to understand the thai mentality and live by the rules and last but not least do not try and impose your self on them.
Morons?..ouch...I havent bashed anyone but i will respond...Thai mentality?..Ive been trying very hard
for over 5 yrs to "understand" thai mentality...maybe YOU can explain it to US , or at least maybe ME...
So yes today im sure i will once again try and understand as i make a simple gesture to go find food.
And how i have to look around as if it were like one of the laser tag games in a amusement park,
or paint ball if you prefer. Wonder if my phone will get fried or do i need to wrap it 10x in plastic bags?
I wondered last year as well as thais hid on top of a building, like cowards(thais?) as they threw water
on me riding my bike as i certainly dont want freezing filthy moat water thrown on my hot mbike engine...
Anyway, yes my bike and the fact i had in earphones and ipod...which was fried btw....did i get a "SOLLY"
or asked if i was ok, or if my ipod worked...nope...just drunk cowardly thais hiding and being drunk/laughing
So yep, maybe i am the moron, as you say, forever trying to understand "THAI mentality"..rules?? huh??

Rain
in Chiang Mai
Last night after 1 am, I heard the pitter-patter of rain on the windows in the Huey Kaew/KSK area. Stuck my head out the condo window and sure enough there was a light rain going and the smell of a damp city. But the city didn't really look damp, just slightly moist. It was too early for the after-bar crowd to be out on their motorcycles, so couldn't judge what it was doing to driving. Didn't want to stay up to find out. Went to bed and left the cats in charge of staring out the window, but they aren't talking this morning. Certainly hasn't improved the view of Doi Suthep much.
The night was..........moist? (Throw mama from the train)
As far as those cats...im sure a little catnip can loosen those tongues up.....
Are you sure it was a pitter--patter?....im not far from you and i swore i heard a patter--pitter....
As far as doi shutep..agreed...**cough**

As described, this is a serious clinical depression with real risk of suicide. Monks and an understanding listener are nto sufficient. he urgently needs professional treatment.
If OP finds 800 baht consultation fee too high, as a Thai he can likely receive free treatment at Suanprong.
Moved to the health forum.
With all due respect, i told Dr Kittiwan i had a problem and was NOT offered free counsel.
Secondly not sure if you read my first post but i am a survivor of many previous attempts,
so i am quite aware of what helped me as i have taken the pills, cut, and been admitted, many times.

Can't understand how a man in Chiang Mai is alone for any length of time with all the hungry women up there
For god sakes man, shut off the computer and go get a 2 hour massage
You went there to live, you said.
Get to it already
What are you suggesting?....Paying for "love"?..wouldnt say these are
quality educated women, albeit some may be, but would seem they
would be working all the time if it were a shady or legit massage....
Im going on year 6 here and am single and alone, not lonely
as my only rule is dont ask for money, ever..im not working
and can support myself, i dont have women flocking on me
that i would want to know but sure have many hookers
cat-calling me and clapping hands like im a dog......
IMO suckers pay...i have plenty of time to invest and
am open to talk to anyone--except scammy hookers...
im always open and welcome a quality women to "flock"..

There are many single women over age 40 in the expats club. I suggest you come to the Breakfast Club social gatherings on the first and third Friday mornings from 9:30 - 11:30 am. The very active Bridge Club would be another good place to meet single women over age 40. They can teach you to play bridge if you don't now: http://www.bridgewebs.com/chiangmai/
Oh did you want to meet Thai women over age 40? I can't give you much advice there, but I do know there are some fantastic western women over age 40 who absolutely love living in Chiang Mai and would be open to socializing with guys. Seems most western guys, however, are interested in socializing "with the locals", either female or male. The single western women I know here tell me you either have to bring your own guy with you or resign yourself to being single. It's a pity because some of these gals are good-looking for their age, are financially independent and have their act together. I think they'd be much better partners and more fun to be around than most of the local women.
Wow..might be time for me to start learning bridge....or pinochle,
will the Mckenzies be coming?.. Dont use the good hand towels!!!

First off, good luck.
And be patient, you dont want to appear desperate.
Numerically, you have a much much wider choice of course, if you seek a thai rather than farang partner. And despite what you may read on here, they can make excellent partners.
Take time to get to know them-really know them, and you will soon know if you are being scammed. Dont be put off if they are giving cash to their families. It's the norm as there is no social security net. it doesnt mean you are being played if you feel you should help a little. Just a little!.
And do buy a book called Thailand Fever. Left hand page in thai for your GF to learn about farang, right hand page in English for you to learn about thai family, culture et al. If my gf and I hadnt got this book we may not have got through the first 3 months-mostly because of our suspicion of each other from what we had read and heard!!
In the same way that you hear about thai women scamming farang, thai families also hear about farang taking their young women abroad to be sold into slavery. Seriously. But if you are looking at 40 plus, less of a problem!
Any female TV readers (you there nancyL??) will probably scream at me, but whereas western women are brought up to be self-sufficient, independent, and feminist etc- and nothing wrong with that, thai girls seem to be brought up to enjoy taking care of others-their family and their man. In small ways that may seem pathetic, but are caring.
I feel I am on dangerous ground so will say no more other than at least look beyond the few western women you may meet.
Dangerous ground----haha--funny--but indeed! 1000 eyes on you in LOS and the forum too!

Well i just use Wetv for the movie stream really---cost me 80 a month in my building
So 20 baht a week to be able to watch endless movies is worth it...after all TiT....
Nothing beats odd couple reruns on youtube....oscar..oscar..oscar!!!! ohh felix!!!
just wish the damn english movies they play in thai had ENG subtitles--NOT thai
