  1. Is it possible for me to transfer £100,000 from my UK bank to my Bangkok Bank in Thailand in 1 transaction for a condo purchase as I am coming to Thailand to live when I am permitted to do so.

The large amount will be from the sale of my property in the UK.

I don't really want to go back to the UK once I come over to live to transfer small amounts e.g £25-30,000 I just want to do it in 1 lump sum ????

  2. 200 to 500 bahts for Thai bank charges is not true, each bank charge whatever they want to charge on the day, I've never been charged 200 to 500 bahts for transferring from the UK.

They never show the transfer charge they just show the total per transaction available in the account, mine is always £40 (1700 bahts) less than expected & that's allowing for a lower bahts rate than showing in currency index.

  3. Hi all, I've read some interesting comments on this topic especially bkk 6060.

I will be facing what he says about my uk family sticking me in a rest home just staring at a t.v & getting no visitors.

I've got a dream Thai girlfriend which we have been hoping to get married since Covid started (we should have got married years ago), she & her family would help & really look after me as I enter into aLL sorts of probable ailments.

How much more difficult is it to quit a country like the UK to live permanently in Thailand now that the Covid situation has changed everything or are the procedures similar to pre Covid?????

  4. Thanks Dr Jack 54 & Ubonjoe for the advice.

I think the tourist visa 60 days but how many 30 day extensions are permitted ? I aim to stay 6 months.

Yes I have been vaccinated 2 times+ I will be due a booster Pfizer in September,

I am 75 yrs old with a monthly pension of 30k bahts but I don't have the amount required in my Bangkok Bank account to apply for a retirement visa so the 60day tourist visa is my only option unless anyone can tell me of any other options?

  5. I am desperate to get to Thailand to see my long relationship girlfriend as we haven't seen each other for nigh on 18 months, if I arrive on a 60 days tourist visa but then overstay 90 days will I just get 4,000 bahts fine ? but then will I be barred for 3 years ?

  6. Thanks to everyone for your replies & great advice.

Ha ha I did make a year error, it's not 21 yrs since I last left Thailand & my girlfriend it was March 2020.

I think it will be better if I do get a 60 days tourist visa with a plan to extend for a retirement visa, I aim to stay in Thailand for 4 to 6 months hopefully from November 2021, I am fully vaccinated but I know Thailand is way behind so that could be a problem ?

I will be looking for a Condo around 2 ml bahts, I really don't mind if it's put in joint name as we've been together for 8 yrs & I'm an aging old <deleted> so at least she will have some security in money.

    Thanks again guys.

  7. Up until the Covid took us all by devastating life changes my Thai girlfriend & I had made plans to get married & buy a condo in Thailand, we have a genuine loving relationship of 8 years but now I have not seen my girlfriend since March 2000 can I send her money to buy a condo whilst prices for property is low & the British £ is very good, if I could place the purchase of a condo in my name would it give me a better chance to get to Thailand around Xmas time & we can carry out our wedding plans.

    Any suggestions welcomed. Thank you

  8. I opened a Bangkok Bank account in Jomtien ,I simply went to the bank & the cashier told me to go to soi 5 immigration for a letter of approval which cost 400 bahts ( nothing is free in Thailand) I then went back to the bank & they processed a book the next morning with debit card etc.

    I only deposited 2,000 bahts.

All this was prior to Covid, but I'm just stating that it was simple to do alone.

  9. It would be a waste of time & lots of money coming back to uk for treatment.

The NHS is not what it used to be, the treatment is dire with massive waiting lists unless you pay private e.g Bupa etc.

This guy & his family would be better asking his close friends in Thailand to fund for the treatment in Thailand which would be much cheaper for him & much better treatment than uk NHS.

  10. Thanks to Superal & others, most appear to understand my reasons to get out of uk.

I've probably left it too late to make the move to Thailand permanently because of state pension red tape & health insurance is available at my age for what I can afford is a max of 180 days so based on your advice I will go when I can go & stay 90 + days non o visa & get the quality time to spend with my beloved thai lady.

Regarding the passport discussion, I already got a new one 1 month ago so I'm set & ready to go when I'm allowed.

  11. Also going out to meet a friend in the pub here is a thing of the past, it's not safe to venture out after dark here so people now of 60 yrs up are totally shut away in our homes where as where we mostly stay away from Korat in Jomtien Beach I can safely walk out to my local bar on my own at 11.30 pm with no problem.

So the main issues to me remaining in uk are. Un safe, lonleyness, & most important Bloody freezing weather for 5 months of a year.

  12. Thanks Guys for all your replies.

Where I live in uk it's all crime related with drugs, stabbings, even shootings so some of you haven't been back for a long time?

I've got a great long term genuine loving relationship of 10 years over in Thailand with my girlfriend who is 50 yrs old.

I would use an agent to get through the immigration paperwork to live there probably in Korat.

I'm very lonely on my own in uk & I would maybe have just 5 years left to live if I'm lucky & dodge getting stabbed but I maybe live more happy for 10 years in Korat with my beautiful girlfriend & her family.

So it will really be a no brainer to pack up in uk or I suppose I could consider having 6 months in each country.???

  13. Hi.

I've had 2 Pfizer jabs, I read today that I can now go from UK to Thailand as of from 1st April with proof of the 2 vaccine jabs, the Thai news report today says I will only have to quarantine for 7 days ??

Also how do I get a COE application form if the embassy/Consolates in uk don't open until May, I am wanting to go 25th April.

    Any advice please???

    P.s I am over 75 yrs retired.
