It's hard to even offer a further comment on this article since I think all the posters have exhausted all the points of ridicule. Long live Soi 6! Expats rule!

The smart play would be for Bangkok Airways to have 3 flights a week from Utapao to Hua Hin. This would give Pattaya, Rayong,  and Chantaburi residents a quick and economical way to travel there without the hassle of driving around Bangkok. I know I would take those flights 2 or 3 times a year. Even 2 flights a week would probably work since most people would go for a 3 or 4 day holiday. There is also the possibility of connecting with train service to the Southern provinces if they create a favorable scheduling connection.

Thank you everyone. The website TATnews was especially helpful. I should be able to keep tabs on the restrictions. It seems as long as we take major roads: 7; 9; 37; 35; and 4, we should be able have no problems. We'll just make sure we have enough petrol to not stop in Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon. 

What are the current restrictions when driving from Pattaya to Hua Hin. Are there checkpoints on the major roads? What documentation (if any) is needed? The wife and I would like to go for a 4 day holiday in late February.

Is it possible to drive a private car from Pattaya to Hua Hin and back once they lift the travel restrictions in Chonburi?

When (if) travel restrictions are lifted, does that mean a person can drive from Pattaya to Hua Hin and back for a one week holiday? I believe one must travel through Samut Sakhon to go to Hua Hin. Are there restrictions to travel through Samut Sakhon?
