  1.  I watched this happen to a guy from UK, he had lung cancer, no insurance, could have paid for hospital stuff but decided to let nature take it's course, so he only lived a few months. I also have no insurance, going back to America wouldn't help any because of not having insurance there either. We all know how expensive health care is in America anyway. So I bicycle about 250 KM a week and try to stay healthy (so far it's working and I'm 62). If I were to come down with cancer I too would most likely let nature take it's course as I've seen too many people go through treatments and get so sick from the treatments and have no quality of life, so basically just suffer and  then die anyway in a short time, why not cut out that sickness from the treatments and maybe last longer without them. At least that's my thoughts maybe I'd change my mind if it happens.

  2.  I have 8 on the back, but usually only use about 4 of them, the 2 on each end)  most of my flat riding I'm in high gear, but climbing hills I need lower gears. I was even thinking of going to a 9 speed on the back for my next bike, why? Beats the hell out of me, just seems like the thing to do because my riding buddy has 9.

everything i order thru amazon i get no extra charges but the shipping is around $10 usd.

I was under the impression that Amazon adds taxes/duty in an estimated (usually high) amount an charge you when you order. Is 10 USD like a flat fee for shipping and no additional duty? If so maybe I need to go back to buying from them again. I haven't used Amazon since I left USA.

  4. I think it depends on the customs officer or something, in my experiences 100 USD seemed to be when I had to pay more "duty" most times. Some things I order get dropped off by the mail man and sometimes he brings a paper and I have to go to the post office and pay more. I asked at the post office and they said loosely translated that it depends on the mood of customs in Bangkok.

Ill health is a concern. Medical services are often expensive here and most retirees hail from places where it is supplied free.

Not for me, In America a person can't afford insurance and can't afford not to have insurance. I know people paying 1500 dollars a month for insurance. I couldn't afford to live there anymore, and wouldn't want to leave here anyway. Maybe I'm still in the "honeymoon phase" since it's only been a year that I'm here but can't see myself leaving.

Oddly, one OTC migraine remedy sold in Singapore and the USA is not available in Thailand: acetominaphen (or other analgesic) with caffeine. It works on my rare, but persistent-when-they-occur, headaches. And, no, drinking coffee or Coke for the caffeine for some reason isn't the same.

I know that usually when I ask for "acetominaphen with caffeine" the pharmacist hears "acetominaphen with codeine," but I've learned that the former simply is not available in Thailand, whereas the latter is, but only by prescription and only from a hospital pharmacy.

I found that some thing, I brought a supply of generic Excedrin with me from America, and found that it is unavailable in Thailand. Currently looking for a substitute.

Ohyesuare, I just checked and here are the numbers.

$5,000 transferred from a debit account at SchwaB to Bangkok Bank via:

Moneywise: B 164,800 deposited into BKK account $1.99 fee

Wise: B 164,654 deposited into BKK account. $36.04 fee.

I don't know enough about interbank finances, so I concede there is possibly a spread in there some place, but I just look at the final amount in Baht deposited and the attendant fees. I'll glad to learn if there is a catch someplace in all of this.

Is Moneywise a Schwab deal? I tried Googling Moneywise and that brought up mention of Charles Schwab. That seems like something I might like to try since it is so much cheaper than wise/transferwise which I normally use.

Feeling energised is a form of feeling high

Yea, I guess it is, just not what I was expecting, based on what other people said. I'm not complaining, it helps with my bicycle rides

  9. I got some from Lazada, dried the leaves, made a tea with 3 leaves for one cup of tea. Everyone says how bad it tastes, I don't find it bad at all, but do notice a numbing sensation of my tongue. I don't feel any type of "buzz" or high, however I do feel a little more energized. Does anyone feel a high from it?

    What is your visa status?

When do you enter Thailand? You quarantined?

I guess you could pretend to be unvaccinated and try to get a single Pfizer as a booster. But your MoPH record would only show partially vaccinated. Not sure if Moderna full dose (single shot) works as a Pfizer 2X booster?

I have the non O visa, Yes, I quarantined when I came in July.  I'd like to get a Pfizer for a booster if I indeed get a booster, that's what I was thinking that if I did get one it would be recorded here as just a single shot, not a booster, unless they use my vaccine card and put it in the system

As far as I know you can't buy it in the food section at Lotus or Big C, but things may have changed. But anyway using it as a garnish or cooking ingredient wouldn't give you any noticeable effect because the quantity would be too small.

Yes it is recommended as a pain-killer, dieting aid, and to reduce anxiety, among other things. A local farmer gave me a big bag of fresh leaves and advised me to make a tea out of 5 or 10 of them (a couple of litres not 1 cup!). It was just an experiment, as I don't have any persistent pain or other issues. I noticed a subtle mood rebalancing and increased alertness, not dissimilar to cbd, but I wasn't what you could call "high" at all.

Its chemistry is interesting as far as I remember from research I did on the internet a couple of months ago. It's a member of the caffeine family (hence the speeding up of metabolism useful for dieting at low doses and increased alertness) but at high doses (which I haven't tried) it's more like an opiate (though it's not addictive, unlike opiates).

You can buy it online at Lazada for example in powdered capsule form.

Thanks for the information, yes, I was planning to make a tea with it.

lotus have it too......  i hope people know what they are buying when they purchase this......

it was in the reduced section the other day, and if some old lady was to add it to her salad cos it looked nice, and it was cheap, she may get quite a shock once digested ????

Is it normally in the food section at Lotus and big C? I'd like to try it for shoulder pain, I read that it helps relieve pain.

They have very good pizza. I would say it is more in the Italian style. Go straight down the Soi about 120 metres. It is in the garden of a house on the left, just before the playground. Not open on Sundays.

Thanks, I think I was looking on the right, I'll surely give it a try!

Just finished one. Delicious as always

I just came from there myself. After reading about it here and not too far from me I decided to try it. Very good, and friendly owner, I'll keep going back again and trying different things. Not cheap like Thai food but for an occasional treat not too out of line.

Very good bread, coffee and croissants too. Super nice people. A little hard to find the first time

I think this is right near my house, I've seen the sign on the road and rode my bicycle in the soi but didn't see it, is it at the very end? Do they have pizza or just breads and croissants? I'd try it since it is so close.

Wondering if they'll stamp the yellow vaccine book when you get the booster or will it be another color book.

I had my Moderna in Walmart in the USA; guess I'll never see a yellow vaccine book of my own.

Yea, I was wondering about that too, I had mine done in USA before coming here. I do have a card showing dates of both shots but not sure how accepted that will be.
