Dhammakaya Temple just tried to street view it. google car cant get anywhere near it. looks more secure than a CIA rendition and torture center.
Do you know for sure it is not?
Watch what you do not know it can be true
Some will think you are a spy
just as long as you are not accusing me of driving a google streetview car

o promote monks due to seniority rather than rank is absolute nonsense - imagine if the government of anywhere was run by the country's oldest people ??? NUTS. Ecclesiastical rank is not a great yardstick either, but at least presumably you need to show some kind of ability to receive such a rank.
the ability to achieve nirvana that wouldnt be a criteria would it?

something about tax not paid, import tax if i recall.

have stayed in many places in SEA and singapore is the only place where thefts have occurred from other residents in the place i was staying at while i was staying there. perhaps 4 different places years appart if i recallI rank personal safety very high on my priority list. I feel a thousand times safer in Singapore than in Thailand. And, if something were to happen, I trust Singaporean police about a million times more than Thai police.
What area in Singapore were you living?
bugis- little india region also one in chinatown-outram park

when you catch the train to penang you can see the setup they have there on many houses in malaysia. it is just a large black container/tank sat up at roof level. cant be too expensive. the houses are custom made to have it there on being built.

used to have one of those solar hot water heaters on the roof. abundant hot water, lasted for years and years saved us dollars and dollars in electricity cost.
While living in NSW, I priced one. Even if I illegally installed it myself, the cost of the unit invested would return more than the cost of off-peak electricity for a storage unit supplying a family of 4 (3 females). Or if you like, the savings from a solar water heater would never pay off the loan to buy it.
In Thailand, because 'cold' water is quite warm, the running cost of an instantaneous heater is quite small. That's why they are so common.
now i think back i dont think we actually paid for. we got it installed free too as part of a promotion deal. no idea how much it would have cost.

All they need to do it talk to the United States and see how much money has been wasted on this crap . They tried back in the 80's and now trying again.
Does the company Solindra ring a bell ? I think I misspelled it. Took the tax payers for 9 billion dollars.
Sad the seppo's (America) can't get it right, sorry about that mate, as for the aussie's well yeah doing just fine thanks, solar panels on the roof and pushing back into the grid and getting a pay cheque each month not that hard man really,
The big question is getting the right type of panel for tropical region and then ya got a fighting chance with the best type batteries.
Yeah right. Solar produced energy being bought back at 3 - 4 times its actual value because stupid politicians want to push an agenda. Billion dollar solar power stations that will produce the most expensive energy ever generated in oz. And with all this 'free' energy, how much has the price dropped?

Singapore is a lot older than 50. It's 50 years since its independence from the UK but it's been a major world trading spot for a lot longer than that.
usedto be part of malaysia

not knowing what a loris was i thought this was a new version of finger pointing with sock puppet
Loris is the common name for the strepsirrhine primates of the subfamily Lorisinae in the family Lorisidae.%5B2%5D Loris is one genus in this subfamily and includes the slender lorises, while Nycticebus is the genus containing the slow lorises.
Lorises are nocturnal. They are found in tropical and woodland forests of India, Sri Lanka, and parts of southeast Asia. Loris locomotion is a slow and cautious climbing form of quadrupedalism. Some lorises are almost entirely insectivorous, while others also include fruits, gums, leaves, and slugs in their diet.%5B3%5D
Female lorises practice infant parking, leaving their young infants behind in nests. Before they do this, they bathe their young with allergenic saliva that is acquired by licking patches on the insides of their elbows, which produce a mild toxin that discourages most predators,%5B3%5D though orangutans occasionally eat lorises.%5B4%5D

"with a capacity of 5,000 megawatts per household. As for the next 20 years, Mr Alongkorn expects the capacity to reach 10,000 megawatts per household."
It's been 8 years since I got my qualification in electro technology - renewable energy...but I don't think solar cells have developed that much!
But if they have, I'll have one, thanks very much.
you havent factored in global warming

This is a good idea.
I am currently working in South Sudan were the street lights are run off solar power. The traffic lights are run off solar power and the rich folk have solar power on there roofs which run their 3 light bulbs and fan at night. Obviously this is all on a micro scale.
The system work well and once installed are essentially maintenance free and maintenance free in Thailand is critical to longevity.
Good luck in introducing this. I must concede that the chairman of the NRC subcommittee should leave the maths to the electrical engineers though!
they have no theft problem in south sudan?
while we are there whats the long term expat visa situation like?

Yeah...went to China.....stayed in 5☆ hotels - like talking to a stone wall if you speak English.....walking around there aren't very many attractive women.....smiles were hard to come by from the general public.....armed - non smiling guards everywhere. . Only engaging people are the ones trying to sell something = super aggressive......
china is a big place, where did you go?

I have been here for 18 months not that long compare to many. But unlike many that have been here far longer than me, I have my eyes open.
LOS land of smiles ..... what a joke that is. I don't like Thai people. Used to think they were wonderful, but the rose tinted glasses fell off.
Show the dollar bill and you are special. Keep it in your pocket, you are scum.
show respect ,live a normal life ,be kind ,helpful ,in your village ,your get it back ,don't need to show one $
Yes I live in a small village called Bangkok. It takes me 15-20 minutes to walk to the supermarket.
In that 15-20 minutes I have to walk often in the road because the sidewalk is full of food stalls.
I have to zig zag along what parts of the pavements I can use to avoid parked cars and motorbikes.
I went to the shop a while ago. A mother was trying to cross the road with her daughter who was about 6. Now there was a car at the front of the road trying to turn right and was slowly edging out. This person behind who could have stopped and let the mother and daughter cross didn't because he didn't want the gap to get any bigger than 2cm from the car in front.
Pure ignorance and it is a trait of Thai people. No one has time for anyone else. It may well be a big city thing. But I really would have little interest living in a village.

i go for the sparkling bubbly from the center of the refrigerated glass case. no doubt you have seen it in its elegantly crafted red and white clear glass bottle. sometimes i have been known to pay in excess of 8 baht a bottle as one has to shell out for real quality. it gets put in a environmentally friendly puulastic baggie for the short trip home, then its quickly drawn towards the antique metal opener and voila it's mine:)
