  1. I appologize for starting a new thread but felt it was a different question and people who have read my original will not always read again. To answer your question we used a copy of the Divorce certificate which was in Thai as were many documents submitted for that visa ie Tambien Ban etc.The ILR form asks for original divorce documents I have mine but my wife only has a copy further more is there going to be anyone in UKBA who will be able to read Thai as they have not asked for a translation. Thanks

  2. We are just about to apply for ILR in the uk but we cant find my wifes divorce document, she seems to think it was retained at the Amphur when they issued us our Marriage certificate.Has this happened to anyone else?Do you think UKBA will accept this in a written explanation or should we try and get a copy from Thailand. This would not be easy as we are both in the UK and Thai govt. offices are always reluctant to issue documents to anyone other than ID holder.Any help would be appreciated.

  3. My wife travelled to the UK on 22nd march 2011 on a visit visa and returned to Thailand on the1st june 2011 (73 days). She then applied for her settlement visa which was granted on 5th aug 2011 and she travelled back to the UK on the 12th aug 2011.My question is can she apply for ILR after 22nd march 2013 as she would have been in the UK for 2 years partly a visit visa and now a settlement visa. Thanks for any replies.

  4. We have a 7 year old Shitzu which is living with my wifes mother at present. The rules changed on 1st Jan 2012 regarding Quaranteen. The new rules seem to be Have the dog microchipped and vacinated for rabies, wait 30 days and have a blood test which I believe has to be sent to the UK for analysis if OK wait 3 months and up to 5 days before flying have tape worm injection then can travel to UK with approved airline (Thai and Eva are not on the list).

Please has anyone done this yet and which Vet or animal hospital was used ?

Which airline will carry Shitzu as some airlines refuse to carry snub nosed dogs because they can suffer with respiratory problems under stress.

Are there any Agents who will handle every thing ?

Any idea of the cost of microchip and vacinations etc.

Any idea of the cost of air freight as it is a condition of entry to the uk that the Dog arrives as cargo not Excess baggage.

I have posted this here as the pets forum is more about animals in Thailand rather than Dog migration.Any help would be most appreciated.

  5. If you had done a search you would have found that this was covered only a short while ago. The proposed change is opposite from what you are advocating. This is in response to the growing disquiet over drivers being unfamiliar with road signs and other issues. Whatever the reasons, you are swimming against the tide, the mood in the UK is to make people use English more, not less. Rightly so in my opinion.

My post was for information purposes and if you had a wife who wanted to try the theory test I am sure she would welcome the assistance of being able to listen to the questions in Thai.

    The languages available are:

    Albanian

    Arabic

    Bengali

    Dari

    Spanish-Castilian

    Farsi

    Gujurati

    Hindu

    Kashmiri

    Kurdish

    Mirpuri

    Punjabi

    Polish

    Portuguese

    Pushto

    Tamil

    Turkish

    Urdu

    Cantonaese

I feel there is no reason why Thai cannot be made available when any Thai migrating to the UK is sponsered by a UK resident but if you reserch some of the above languages you will find that many are Afghan dialects used by refuges in this Country and being supported by you and me.So why not stop being so negative in your posts and think before you use the keyboard !!!

  6. Any Thai arriving in the UK can drive on their Thai licence for 1 year but has to take the UK test within the year to carry on driving. The theory driving test has 21 languages supported but Thai is not included.I contacted the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and asked what the criteria was for supporting a language. They replied as need and demand and were not very forthcoming.I then requested under the freedom of information act the numbers and Nationalities of people who have taken the theory test with voice over support in their Language in the last 2 years.

The results are highlighted by the Kashmiri language which has only had 5 individuals using the voice over feature in the last 2 years. My wife has now managed to pass her theory test in English after the 3rd attempt at £31 a time. The reason for this post is to offer this information to the forum and if enough people request a voice over in Thai ie a lot more than 5 then under the Race Discrimination Act I think that the DSA would be obliged to offer Thai voice over which would help all taking a Theory Test.Below are the details of the DSA and if someone wants to start a campaign to lobby the DSA please feel free.

  7. Its 4 am in the UK now and I cant sleep,My wife had a long phone call from the Embassy on Friday morning asking lots of questions I think because we made the 3 applications for my wife and her twin daughters. She was asked how often the daughters father saw the children which was birthdays and fathers day so about twice a year also where we met when we met, where my wife lives ,does she work,do I support her.My wife answered all the questions no problem because she was able to give honest answers as we have recently sold our house and she and the children have moved in with her Mother which she explained to the Embassy, then they wanted to know how many people lived at her mothers house as it happens her mother lives alone her husband (wifes Father died about 3 years ago). Then the Embassy asked for my wifes mothers phone no. and they rang her and basically asked the same questions which again she was able to answer honestly and the same as my wife.I have just checked the British Embassy web site half an hour ago and their passports are ready to be collected,I rang the wife and she had not had the sms message yet so she will set off to Regent House to pick up the passports about 3pm.I dont think I can sleep again until we know !!!!

  8. Those that have BULATS certificates, double check that the test report form provides scores in all the skill areas: reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Why?...surely the minimum 'A1' requirement is Speaking & listening?...and sufficient for visa purposes?...or are you saying that if you undertake the BULATS test you have to score in all 4 elements to gain a pass that satisfies visa requirements?

You are absolutely correct in that when my wife took the test in march at Corporate english Consulting They insisted she took a 4 part test including Writing And reading which is not required for a UK settlement Visa.As it happens my wife is very proficient at english and easily passed the test but I find it very annoying that the test requirement is not properly specified by the UK Border Agency and yet again Visa Applicants are struggling with very poor UK agency guidelines.!!!

  9. My wife is currently in the UK on a visit visa with her twin daughters aged 14,she is returning to Thailand next month and will be applying for a settlement visa to return to the UK.My question is, is there any way she could bring her niece as well, whom she has brought up as her own child and would like to give her the chance of what could be a better life in the UK.Her niece is 11 years old could she come as a student?Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

  10. My wife has recently arrived in the UK on a 6 month family visit visa with her 2 children,we were not in a financial position to apply for a settlement visa at the time as I am awaiting the outcome of a large High Court settlement.Assuming my financial circumstances change soon can we apply for a settlement visa whilst she is here on a family visit visa or must she return to Thailand to apply. She has already passed the new English test and presumably they can get a TB test done in the UK.Any help would be much appreciated.

  11. Just to update my wife has several bank accounts with different Thai banks in Ayutthaya but they all seemed reluctant to transfer money to the UK so I told her to speak to Bangkok Bank and they were happy to do a swift transfer. My wife duly opened an account with a cahiers cheque for the full amont and transfered it on Tuesday and it was in my bank the following day no questions asked.

  12. My wife went to get a family visit visa today for her and her twin 14 year old daughters to visit me in the UK.Firstly we forgot that the children need to accompany her to Regent House for Biometric checks to be done, but we are still unsure whether the children need to fill out a Family visitor form VAF1B each or is the declaration on my wifes form stating that the children are traveling with her enough? So in other words do we need to apply for 3 separate visas? There is very little information to help on UK visas site so any help with documentation requirements would be greatly appreciated.

  13. We did not sign a thai language contract the contract was in english and thai law will enforce that contract as it is the only contract that exists !!

Lets keep it with a simple question...................how much can you scratch from a bare rock?

Or how much blood can you get from a turnip?

Sometimes a contract just isn't worth the paper it is written on.

But keep believing and good luck in collecting! TIT :whistling:

You may have to settle for far less. I have been down that road before and I sympathize. ;)

Turnips and bare rock !!! have either of you been to Suan Sawarn I very much doubt it or you would know how much materials are already on site to complete this project why dont you both go to the ladies in Thailand forum you can fight over Hand bags there and you would both be far more at home.

  14. The 1000 baht a day penalty comes off the final balance so we as buyers will only pay the reduced amount after deducting the penalty. There is a huge chance of getting the buyers together to take on the developer as you say there are over 200 appartments in this development so a small donation into a fund is quite possible if needed.

There is no payment due until the project is completed so I dont think he will be using our money to fight his corner as we have only paid half and I think development costs will be more than that.

I am a realist and we have contracts to buy these properties which are legally binding both ways,it was the developer who drew up the contracts and the penalty clause is now a problem they did not foresee with the world wide recession having a massive effect on most markets.

It would be good to have views from other buyers?
