Hate to disappoint you but we do use A/C units. One in the front room for about an hour or so in the evening then the big bedroom one for about 3 hours as a rule. Longer if really warm.

The highest bill I have ever had this year was 672 baht in May/June. Never been anywhere near 1000 baht in the 4 years I have lived in our house.

We only have 1 small aircon and our bill is normally around 1800 baht per month. Seems high compared to yours.

  2. Based on my experience over the last 10 years, i've come to the conclusion that the government has no real effective control over the boys in brown.

On one hand i feel the police should be paid far more money but the corruption should not go unpunished which is currently the case because they are simply "transferred to an inactive post". What a joke!

They really are the mafia as they collect payments from bars, road blocks and other money generating schemes not unlike the mafia.

Recently the government released figures stating 45% of money collected from on the spot fines goes directly in the police mans pockets.

To make things worse, laws are not enforced because payments are made including :

    1. Bars who allow smoking

    2. Construction companies burning off hazardous materials at night ( so you can't take clear videos/photos ) The World Health Organization reports, 25% of the entire countries population die prematurely due to pollution including long term expats.

    3. Vehicle pollution. Recently the police in Bangkok found over 10,000 vehicles producing pollution however none where removed from the road and only a handful fined.

The government and police clearly DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYONES HEALTH.

Do it the California way. If people smoke in the bar grab the fire extinguisher and extinguish all burning cigarettes. Then call the police (Please let us know what happened afterwards).

Good idea. I was thinking about taking video and images and sending them to http://www.1111.go.th/ but not sure they would do anything.

Does anyone have experience with http://www.1111.go.th/

The government intends to promote a peaceful society.

To contribute to the stability and health benefits of the Thai people

Either way, i think i would get banned from the bar.

Same, starting at 1,500thb per month for a small bar.

I think the reason they allow smoking is because they don't lose customers and get away with it because they pay police however, i think the police may be forced to act if an official complaint is made.

  5. Is it legal to smoke in bars in Phuket?

I noticed in some Bangkok bars, they have a designated outdoor area for smoking however in Phuket it seems there's no such law or many bars aren't respecting this law.

As said if you have a yellow house book it works.

Thais have a blue house book.

    Nothing discriminatory.

How do i get a Yellow House book if i'm renting on a retirement visa?

I find it odd that i have to pay to transfer registration on a brand new motorbike???

I think the problem here is that the shop was supposed to do this for me so i need to take the paperwork back to them so they can complete the transfer.

  7. I would like to register my new motorbike in my own name rather than my Thai partners.

Phuket town immigration are requesting 600 baht.

Does anyone know the correct process as i thought it was done at the Department of Transportation and was supposed to be a free service.

I find this a bit discriminatory as Thais don't pay this extra registration fee.

So this must be brief trip your planning? Given that you only have about 3 weeks left on your permission of stay till Aug 28.

5 day trip. Normally i apply for 1 year visa a week before expiry as it normally only takes 1 day to process.

I phoned Phuket Int airport and they told me the visa desk is located after border control so i guess its o.k to get the re-entry permit after being stamped out.

Do not forget that if you want to buy a re-entry permit at the airport, you need to get it before going to Immigration desk. After you are stamped out of Thailand , it is too late !

I was told the visa desk is located after immigration at Phuket airport thats why i'm checking here. I was told you need to get it before you leave, not before you get stamped out/

There have been reports of good things happening when calling the 1111 hot line which is for english speakers in precisely such conditions. People who do nothing in the face of having their rights trampled on are cowards. Why don't you give them a call and tell what happens.

What worked very effectively for me was standing on the property border with a video camera recording the fire, as well as the people around the fire and vehicles/motorbikes on the property. This stopped the fires. Now i have proof, i can take it to the authorities and see if anyone will charge them. Regardless, it worked.

  11. Is it legal to light fires and burn off in residential areas?

There's a lot of development of villas in my area and they burn off waste on a regular basis, normally on weekends creating toxic smoke.

I spoke to my doctor about this and he told me its illegal however the police don't enforce the law if you make a complaint.
