If you want to live in a rural area of Thailand you must build your own world, a home and garden that you want to live in with a family you love. If you can do this you will not live in paradise but it will make life in  Phuket, Pattaya and Bangkok a poor second.

I live in a beautiful house surrounded by trees and friendly people. I cook my own food, watch any TV I want and go swimming every day. life in rural Thailand is what you make it.

I love a trip to Phuket or Pattaya but after a week I long to go home. Bangkok/London is my idea of hell.

London is not in Thailand. ?

I did visa extension twice in the last couple of months. Also travelling around before make extensions.

When i checked in at hotel, i told please to inform immigration, because the following day i would go to apply for visa extension. One hotel in Ayutthaya did it soon on my check in day and everything at immi goes without any problems. The other hotel in Kanchanaburi dont registered me and the Kan immi phoned to the hotel to confirm my stay, and i had to wait, till they registered me online. All in all extra wasted waiting time about 30 minuts more.

Wow wasted 30 mins more waiting time.

    Wot a disaster for u.

A reirement visa extension or an annual  renewal can be done without an agent by a person of average inteligence, even an American.

I am not being sarcastic, as i am an American living in Bangkok, and betwen 2010 and 2013 I did 3 of them.

Why pay an agent 30K Baht for something you can handle yourself at the cost of a 200 Baht taxi fee to immigrtion?

Just neet the financial requireents, take half  a day in immigration and do it once a year.

The fact that your friend gas not yet heard anything from the Agency is like a red waening flag to me.

i hope i am wrong about that.

He prob used the agent coz he couldn't meet the 800,000b  financial requirement.

Your question can't be answered unless you give the full story.  The full, honest story.  But I'm pretty sure that you're going to leave out the important details.  In my home country, the term is "accomplice" or perhaps, "accessory to the crime."  And what the heck is this "friend" doing with a gun in the first place?

Owning or having guns is no big thing nowadays in this world.

Are you joking ? The Thais will love you as they drain every last baht out of your pocket. You are what they call a two week millionare. Do you plan to flash your money around? Your the type of guy i tend to keep a safe distance from.

Criticize where it is deserved.  The current Thai government deserves little praise as does Clinton or Trump.   Leadership world wide is not less than exciting.  The current leader of Hong Kong is gawd awful, but the women running Korea, Taiwan and Burma probably deserve some praise.

Feel lucky to work with Thais in and outside of Thailand.  They are patient, talented, and hardworking.  Thailand has great potential, but highly placed, influential people are holding it back.

Haha Thais are patient?Do U not drive on Thai roads?I ??

How nice to hear honest, positive comments about Thai officials. I have just come back from a week in Phuket Old Town and received kindness from complete strangers in the form of lifts and offers off help.

Coz the sun is bac with us.  ?????

Years ago I applied for a retirement visa in Los Angeles. Everything was going well until it came to the medical letter. They wanted tests for all sorts of diseases. I took the form to my regular doctor and she refused to sign it until all the tests were actually performed. Some were very expensive and my insurance refused to pay for them. Instead of the retirement visa the embassy gave me a multiple entry six month visa. The airline would not allow me to buy a one way flight without a visa. Thai immigration would not give me a retirement visa until the six month visa was used up. Everything finally went smoothly so no complaints from me. That was quite a few years ago.

    U call that smoothly?

In most countries it's legal to record noice of others that you hear in your house and your property as long as y out don't invade their space to record. The only restriction is phone conversations that's not approved by both parties except in no fault states where only one party "you" have to agree and you don't have to tell the other party you record. New York State is one of them

We're in Thailand, Don't give a monkey's bout New York

  11. Personally, I have only seen the increase in anger in the newspapers and in video captures. I think its reporting, but I have no real proof. In my life in BKK I personally have not encountered more violence. That of course does not say much as I am just 1 person.

But with all those new phones and dashcams a lot more gets reported.

Agree. Not sure why the OP has to ask the question--just freakin walk outside. What do you see? I haven't seen any evidence of increase in violence, at least not in Chiang Mai.

Coz he wants to see other people's views on it that's why.

  12. Never sure what I might do these days in such a situation... but good for you for helping out and what a jerk for stealing the purse. I hope this is not a local gas station for you... If it was my local station, I probably would have said something about giving it back, but they are usually pretty nice there.

Yes it was a local station that we use quite regularly, but I live in the city, so there are plenty of alternatives. The guy, who was not more than say 18 will have been clever to give it up in the end and just lost face rather than try to bluff it out till the police got there and searched the booth.

Not to worry these workers stay there weeks at most

    Then gone

The Burmese girls at the stations are actually better workers IMHO

Not true, the 4 fuel stations that I know an use in my area are Burmese an 90% of them hav been working there over 6mths. An we also near the Burmese border.

  13. The simplest of Google searches would have given you all the information you needed to visit the ship.

"HTMS Chakri Naruebet (เรือรบหลวงจักรีนฤเบศร) is an offshore Patrol Helicopter Carrier anchored at the Chuk Samet Deep Seaport. The king named the ship Chakri Naruebet meaning "Sovereign of the Chakri Dynasty". It was constructed in Spain in 1994. It is an 11-storey ship measuring 182 m in length and 30.5 m in width. It is equipped with modern weapons, as well as long-range surveillance radar. The important missions during wartime are the flagship of the fleet, controlling and commanding the fleet in the sea, as well as the aircraft carrier and air defence mission. It is open daily from 08:00-16:00. It is closed only on Wednesdays from 08:00-12:00. Admission free. International visitors seeking admission must write a letter to the Commander of the Royal Thai Fleet, Sattahip, Chonburi, 20180. For more information, Tel. +66 38 438 547-62 ext. HTMS Chakri Naruebet."

I think it really is a case of inadequate prior planning and preparation.

How the hell would he know that he would have to write a poxy letter to the commander of the Royal Thai Fleet to gain admission?

  14. 1. One of my friends has the same problem that not enough time for 800k in his account. When he went to immigration to renew his retirement visa, the officer discovery the problem but said to him that if he is willing to pay extra fee, his problem can be fixed.

    2. Once I visited a visa company named "Bxxs" at Central Pattaya Road. The manager said, I don't need any money at the bank if I want to apply retirement visa thru him with the charges of THB25,000. I talked to a friend of mine how can it be possible, he said because the visa company acts as a guarantor of the applicant.

25,000b ?? you were robbed all the agents that provide this service charge 15,000b max. And a friend's wife I know only charges 12,000b.

    An that's in Pattaya too.
