Good news for who exactly?

There are varying estimates for death rates related to the coronavirus, depending on the country, population etc.
But if Thailand did nothing and just let the virus spread at will, that could mean a very large CV death toll in a country of 70 million people.
If Thailand ended up with the same death rate thus far as the U.S.. (now 575,000+ and counting out of 300 million), that would be about 140,000 deaths in Thailand. (0.2% of the population), if I did my math right.
Im not sure what your point is?
You wrote 3 paragraphs and the first mentions "varying estimates for different countries" which can be used for any subject to be honest
The other 2 paragraphs start with "if . . . "
Also I am not suggesting ANY country "do nothing", Im asking for all countries to treat its citizens as grown ups and not put ALL people into a group where they are automatically thought of as high risk
The fact that you used "ifs and variants" shows how differentiating the subject matter and opinion is on this topic.
Im not attacking what you say at all, just highlighting that we are still no nearer to any kind of end to this yet the powers that be are still doing what they were doing from the beginning, they need to try another approach

Obviously!! Then all this will happen again and again keep going round in circles. This will go on for years if a change in dealing with this is not implemented. I wont hold my breath though as getting any govt to admit they got it wrong and change tact is like pushing water uphill

I like to make my judgements on what I see too and over the past year I have seen over reactions everywhere I look. Not just over reactions, but totally contradictory messages in dealing with it, and some ridiculous and conflicting decisions based on nothing.
1) 10pm curfews - ridiculous2) Allowed in restaurants and markets but not bars - contradictory and ridiculous
3) Over reactions to a small outbreak of cases (in the grand scheme)
4) A killer disease so bad that we are only advised to wear a mask and hand gel
5) Locking down the world and killing economies and jobs all for a virus that has around a 1% death rate - ridiculous
6) Always a spike when there is a holiday due with the possibility of people finally enjoying themselves - dubious at best

Yes...higher. So what? Let's look at cold hard reality. Simple math from World-o-meter shows mortality rate of 2.16%. Global population approx 7.8 billion would = approx 234 million deaths...many/most very old and infirm. A drop in the proverbial bucket.
The elderly, sick, those with underlying conditions, obese, the afraid, etc, of course should take any and all precautions which make themselves feel safe. Lock themselves away, shutter businesses, lose jobs. While the remaining 90% of the world should be able to carry on living.
We're all dying anyway, from the moment we are born. Life is short. My preference is to live life...not let life (and government) live me. People should be free to make their own choices and decisions. Every death is a family tragedy...not national and international news.
I wonder how many stopped reading when you said "cold hard reality". ????

Now just close the borders & Airports.....then only it can work to control the outbreak ...as it helped before
Not sure where it helped before? Seeing as we are no nearer normality? We are in exactly the same place as we were last April

Deadly virus with a 99.7% survival rate?
And a virus so deadly we are only advised to wear a thin layer of cloth over our faces and squirt a bit of gel in our hands haha - I wish people would wake up. Dont get me wrong, the at risk are well, at risk and should take the necessary precautions. Everyone else however is being treated as if they are also in the at risk group. Its about control and funnily enough, seems to happen everytime there is some kind of holiday afoot!!
A year on and we are doing all the same things we already have. Keep accepting it and they will continue to control. Maybe herd was the way to go.Mochit bus station last year was being touted as the end of the world and the same thing is happening now!! People talking about 'waves' yet again. Thailand has not had any waves, only spikes here and there but we are still seeing over reactions to this virus.

Anyone for herd immunity now?
Dithering never solved anything, as seen across the globe for the last 12 months
This will continue for years unless a change in direction is administered
A killer disease that you can catch without even knowing you have it? A killer disease that is obstructed by a thin piece of cloth and/or hand washing? A killer disease that is more deadly if the clock strikes 10pm? A killer disease that is more dangerous to one who frequents a bar rather than a reataurant?A year on and people are still falling for this? Funny how all this happens at times when people are looking forward to enjoying a holiday of some kind ????♂️

"And blind acceptance is a sign, of stupid fools who stand in line"
Enjoy lying in your beds that you have not only made for yourselves, but everyone else. Some people only realise when its too late, the rest of us can see whats coming yet get accused of being CT's haha- 1

So I did some more research.
An enclave is not what the shetlands would be, as an enclave is a territory (or a part of one) that is entirely surrounded by the territory of one other state. The Shetlands woould become either a Crown dependency, a British overseas territory, or an independent nation.
Seeing as only 8% of Shetlanders want complete independence, a movement called Wir Shetland was launched in October 2015 to secede from the rest of Scotland in favour of becoming either a Crown Dependency or a British Overseas Territory, as a means of achieving greater autonomy for the Shetland Isles.
The SNP only holds one seat on the council - the other 21 are independents. So it wasn't the SNP that gave the greenlight, it was led by independents.
The channel islands have 2 islands which are 'Crown dependencies' - self governing islands that are possessed by the UK. Internationally, the dependencies are considered "territories for which the United Kingdom is responsible", rather than sovereign states.
As the Crown dependencies are not sovereign states, the power to pass legislation affecting the islands ultimately rests with the government of the United Kingdom (though this is rarely done without the consent of the dependencies, and the right to do so is disputed). However, they each have their own legislative assembly, with the power to legislate on many local matters with the assent of the Crown.
The territorial waters were purchased by the Isle of Man Government from the United Kingdom Government in 1991. The Territorial Sea Committee (TSC) is a cross-governmental committee which was set up to manage the Isle of Man's interests following the purchase. Purchased for £800,000, the ownership of the Territorial Sea has resulted in the Island collecting more than £2 million in capital fees and currently receives approximately £350,000 annually for cables and pipelines passing through the area and also from oil and gas exploration licences.
To summarize, The waters would belong to the Crown, and the oil and gas reserves would be lost to an independent Scotland.
Love it, nice one.

Yes thats right.
I hate my English family members.
I hate my English friends.
I hate my English neighbours.
See this is where all you uninformed Brexiteers English Nationalists go wrong.
You think you know why Scots want independence but you dont.
How about taking back control.
How about Scottish fishing waters
How about sovereignty.
How about getting away from an unelected House of Lords and beaurocrates in Westminster.
How about securing our own borders.
How about not being dictated to by a corrupt and unaccountable government in a foreign country.
Any of that stuff ring any bells?
Or how about we just become the same as every other independent country.
We dont want special treatment.
We just want to be the same as everyone else.
Crikey you nearly had me in tears then

Walter, mate - you would have been incorrect had you said that in 2014; you are SO wide of the mark now though.
Am I? Any factual evidence in the form a questionaire filled in by every Scot old enough to vote? Thought not. You do know polls arent with wiping your slope with right?
-
12 minutes ago, RuamRudy said:
Because the franchise was extended to English, Welsh and NI residing in Scotland, plus EU nationals who were told by Project Fear that they would lose their right to remain in an independent Scotland if they voted for independence. This group was sufficient to tilt the balance in favour of No.
BTW this is not fanciful speculation but the result of academic research.
So you lost because of Scots living in the other Yoon countries voted against? So what, theyre Scots and can vote from anywhere. How many of those Scots voted who went 1 way to Argentina in 78 haha, honestly you 2 are a right double act, hilarious

You really need to read the rest of the thread before you turned up.
Just making yourself look silly now.
Still nothing to debate on your independence? Just more petty insults? Come on please tell us how your whisky sales are gonna make your GDP soar

13 minutes ago, RuamRudy said:
The majority of Scots voted for independence in 2014. The majority of Scots and Scottish residents support independence now.
So why are you still attached to the Yoon then if that was the case?

Problem is the devil we know.
If you think I want to be ruled by English nationalist Brexiteers then I got news for you.
Its that English exceptionalism that gets you guys every time aint it.
The majority of Scotland dont care what you think or want.
Its no longer about you.
Thats the bit that really hurts aint it?
Suddenly England is diminished because Scotland left ????
I love it when angry commenters put a laughing emoji at the end of their angry rants haha, keep em coming
No hurt here rookie, Im in the union and so are the scots, like it, lump it, read it and weep. Oh and the majority of Scotland do care what we think . . . the 55% majority - BOOM -

When it comes down to something as fundamentally against my principles, there is now way I would ever support Brexit. If a referendum to bring back the death penalty ever passed, should I throw out my objections and support the concept because it was 'the will of the people'?
No, all we ask is that you grow up and accept defeat. You should be used to it by now
-

I thought the same until I read more, and then gave it more thought.
1) They voted to remain as part of the UK, which was a part of the EU; the largest single market.
2) Now the UK has left the EU, even though Scotland overwhelmingly supported remaining in the single market
3) Scotland does not wish to join a new union - It wants to remain a part of the bigger union that it was a member of just one year ago.
I have known this ever since I read it was about Brexit. Brexit won and the Indys wanted another ref as the goalposts moved after Brexit. I get that. But they aint getting a ref, no means no unless you're a wee Kranky who cant accept the word no. Like I said, if they get it and win, good luck to them but the EU will screw them into the ground just like they have done recently with the small fish. Ireland came back to the UK cap in hand and we obliged. I would have told them where to go and the same goes for Scotland, the EU will finish Scotland

Easy there Walter, you are dealing with a rookie Scot so don't expect the arguments to be overly complex.
He hasnt brought 1 debate about the referendum yet, just simple insults and wild guesses. It seems people like this are more interested in personalities and how racist or fascist 1 iss so they can keep using them. Youre right, The English dont hate the Scots and many Scots dont hate the English, but the haters hate because they are jealous we create the wealth for our union and drip feed them the scraps

Really? According to NanLaew we are all bigots and racists. Seems pretty evident that he dislikes Scots.
Oh hold on. Are you saying Brexiteers like NanLaew like racists and bigots?
There you go again putting words in peoples mouths, you should apply for a job at C4News. Oh no, wait, they have enough like that already! BBC perhaps hahaha what a large cup
