This whole fiasco tells us all we need to know. If you believe this is not a stunt I pity you. They arent tourists, more like volunteers. And the fact they have asked the Chinese rather than any other country to be part of this sham also speaks volumes.

Well well well. I have heard many times about Thais not being the brightest bulbs in the store. But this takes the jaffa cake. We (Thailand) have done really well with containing the virus, so, as we are now virus free, we have decided to open up to all those countries . . . . who aren't!!!

The Chinese will bring Covid to a country that has no Covid.
The tourism industry may be decimated, however, The Kingdom continues to carry on carrying on, the Bhat remains strong and the people that want to work have employment.
I hope that the people at the very top do not allow the Chinese to gain control of Thailand because if Covid.
This is much deeper than a few Chinese tourists spreading Covid on their visits.
Keep them out please.
Anyone agree?
Im not sure how influential allowing chinese tourists in affects how China will end up ruling Thailand. The CCP will dictate Thailand no matter where the Chinese take their holidays. So no, the Chinese will not take control of Thailand because of covid, they would have controlled it with or without covid. The benefit for the CCP releasing the virus has been to slow the worlds economies down while theirs continues to flourish. However, the likes of Japan have withdrawn many companies from China since the outbreak and I hope every other nation on the planet does the same and sanctions China from the map. There are many other countries where mobile phones can be manufactured cheaply. It just requires fresh infrastructure and training. Samsung already have manufacturing plants in Vietnam. We dont need China, their products are pretty substandard anyway.

Any mention of American tourists is conspicuous by its absence. I can only guess that is because of pandering to the Chinese...the most guilty party in the whole pandemic! Doesn't Thailand value the U.S. dollar anymore?
Agree that Thailand pander to the Chinese and I also agree they are the most guilty party in this whole sh*tstorm. But they aren't going to entertain allowing US citizens in when the US is still not in control of the scamdemic itself. Same as the UK. The report says 'some' European countries so probably the likes of Sweden, who, ironically never locked down or wet their pants throughout. I doubt Thailand and its tourism would cut their noses off to spite their faces over China and the US having issues.

Within 2 months all the hospitals will be totally overwhelmed (other patients not able nor want to go)
& the tourist areas could look like parts of India or Indonesia with deaths being excessive
Sometimes you can not have your cake & eat it too.
The whole thing is very sad, but the Government appears to have managed thing pretty wellin particular for a country sharing so many land borders
Take a look at the UK, right now. they are on the edge of the precipice & things could turn really nasty in the next month, unfortunately it looks like France is there already.
My suggestion would be wait, watch & evaluate each week until the New Year then reassess
Hang on a minute . . . . Thailand were accused of not doing enough testing and Isaan amongst other places were a ticking time bomb? The Mochit bus station episodes back when everyone was fleeing from Bangkok was said to be the worst decision at that time as all fleeing were going to spread the virus back in their towns and villages. What people seem to forget is you have to have the virus to spread it. The panic has been monumental but what has Thailand actually been through?? The economy is on its knees for what? 60 deaths? All we see is figures like 1 million deaths or 30 million cases. We rarely see recoveries or death rates which are miniscule. Countries need to open with each other who have no cases for a certain length of time. The virus is not going anywhere, it will now be with us forever like the flu, so what do you want? We never closed the world down for flu so yes, people are gonna die like they do every day. Its up to each individual and their loved ones to take care of each other and decide the best way forward for them. We dont kill every dog on the planet because some carry rabies

There are risk for travelers getting covid in Thailand, they may not have any experience in treating the disease. There maybe a big lock down and tourists are stuck in their rooms for weeks.
Too many "Presumablys" and "Maybes" to take your comment seriously. Stay under your bed

I have cut/pasted from an email I received from NW in May this year, hope it helps
Confirmation of Payee is coming to make sending money more secure Confirmation of Payee (CoP) is a new name-checking service that will help to make sure payments are sent to the right personal or business account.
It will do this by:
• checking that the name of the person or organisation you give us matches the one on the account you want to pay • explaining the risk of sending money when the name doesn’t match • helping you to avoid certain types of payment scam
The changes are coming soon, so keep an eye out and make sure your Banking app is up to date.
A CoP check will only be needed when you pay a person or organisation for the first time, or change their account details. It also applies to payments like one-off bills, standing orders, or each time you make a CHAPS payment. What you need to know: When you’re transferring money, whether it’s online, via the Banking app, by phone, or in a branch, it’s important to have the correct details that appear on the account for the person you’re paying.
You’ll need their:
• full first name – for example ‘Thomas’ not ‘Tom’ • last name • sort code • account number (and account reference if needed) • account type
For payments into a business account, you’ll need the full business or organisation’s name, and to specify that it’s a business account.
If you’re expecting a payment from someone, they’ll need those same details from you – although you only need to give details of one account holder if it’s a joint account.
More information on how it works is available here, including what to do if CoP is unsuccessful.
These changes will help keep you and your money safe online – it’s all part of our Digital Banking Promise.- 1

He could have worded the reasons for wearing one a little more conspicuously couldnt he? I mean blatantly saying your movements will/can be closely monitored is admitting they intend watching you!! Maybe if he would have said they will be necessary in tracking previous movements/whereabouts in the unfortunate event you should become ill might have been better advised.

Of course they wont and rationally should not need quarantining if from a similar COVID successfully managed country as Thailand. Will be no point in any quarantine if say we allow tourism to and from say New Zealand or China which we can sensibly tourism twin with and where there is currently no Covid case much like Thailand. But of course badly Governed countries like USA and UK (my own now sad homeland) would and must still need full quarantine for those that are essential travellers into Thialand, like husbands returning here to their Thai wives, and especially those with children.
Way too much cynicism and negativity is expressed here on TVF, as I honestly think that the Thai Governmetn have handled this COVID crisis surprisingly very well, even if a little over the top at times (like the pointless alcohol ban for example). However, I believe that a little too much precaution is far better than not enough as we see so stupidly in the USA and UK for example. I personally am very glad I live here in Thailand where i feel far safer than if I still lived in the badly governed UK where COVID is truly still rife and a big problem.
I have some positive hope for this hopefully soon to be available Sputnik 5 COVID 19 vaccine from Russia, which is one of the few places along with China that I trust these days to produce a safe vaccine and not for profit but for true care of people and public health. I say that logically and evidence based rationally, rather than politically. I hope Thailand do the right thng and welcome this new very promiosing Russian vaccine too so it is soon readily available here and at low cost. Apparently I understand that it should be supplied at not much, if any, more than development + produiction + distribution costs. I would certainly trust a COVID virus from Russia once it has been passed by them as safe for distribution, and as a cowrad after a few weeks for it to show there is no unexpected side effects of course. I certainly will never trust anything from the corrupt western greedy profits first rip off big pharma as we have enough evidence of their failures before putting greed before people.
But you trust China? Wow........ just WOW!!!

But if he’s using 400,000 baht in the bank method, then he has enough money to pay his hospital bill.
That 400,000 doesnt have to or need to be his. Many visa agents deposit that and then take it back once the visa is 'live'

Opening up to countries that have minimal risk still has risk. Im not one of these panicky poo 2nd wave goons who hides under the bed with a mask tattooed on my face, but, should the country not open up to individuals who dont have the virus and not countries? A month ago, Vietnam was probably the safest country to 'twin' with but a new very small outbreak has put everyone on the back foot again. Everyone looks at the US and UK and mentions how high the numbers are there, which makes it seem to anyone that their thought bubble will be re-enacting the black death!! The percentage of any country (or the world) who have the virus in miniscule compared to the population.
The economies should have been back running months ago, possibly never even suspended. But here we are.
I hope China is way down the list for twinning. But TiT so I doubt that. Laos and Cambodia would be good starting points. Although, lets say TH has a twin with both these countries and they in turn have a twin with Vietnam, then one could travel from Vietnam to TH and vice versa without being twinned
Opening at any time is gonna be a risk because of those asymptomatic cases. Herd immunity from the off was the way to go but the authorities scared the worriers enough for that not to happen!!- 2

Id like to think he has learned a lesson from this escapade which should have come to him earlier in life. Perhaps it did and he didnt learn. Either way, his show off attitude cost him dearly

What a sad bunch on TV criticizing the victim. Maybe he haven't been here so long that he know the country to well and that robbing is nearly acceptable unless the perpetrator can be seen/ recognized and arrested and by that losing face.
Felt.
I think a 72 year old farang married to Thai living on 30k a month isnt fresh off the boat do you? He should know better than to a) wear expensive items that will be noticed and b) chase down the thief.
Doubly foolish for someone of such years -

I'm from an other planet. The Dutch PM regularly cycles to work (parliament is just a few km away from his house), can occasionally be spotted walking outside parliament on his own (My late wife found it absolutely facanating when she saw the PM walking a meter or so past her, that wouldn't happen in TH she said). If the PM or ministers do go buy car it's generally just 1 chauffeured audi. No escorts. Our head if state (king) may get a 2 motorcycle escort to accompany his car but he has also been seen cycling around on his own.
As for Prayuth: If a driver flashing his lights and honking upsets him and his security escort... 555
I doubt that would be the case if Geert Wilders was PM

This is partly my point about them having to 'stick to their guns'. As you say the whole world was watching, so can you imagine how ridiculous they would look if they released the 2 and then were under pressure to find someone else to stitch up? Then the new stitch up goes wrong and they lose even more face? Nah, was much easier to frame these 2 and stick to whatever they needed to to make it happen.

1 minute ago, Dene16 said:Actually it's not about outweighing an inevitable outcome, it's about they didn't even try. Are you then saying that the defence were paid off also
No, Im saying the defence lost because it was set up for the prosecution to win. The reasons they needed to win are quite apparent.
1) The police are not as powerful as the people responsible for the murders
2) They were never going to frame Thais
3) They made it clear that the 2 Burmese were 100% responsible for the murders, thus meaning, any u turn on their guilt would make the police and judicial system look like the useless organisation they are.
As said previously, why would they waste time on pretending to look for someone NOT responsible after freeing the 2 Burmese? This is why they had to find them guilty, to save face from looking foolish, all the while knowing who really committed double murder
Its my opinion how things have played out and also the opinion of most. I/we could be wrong, but I doubt it. The most shameful things about this whole debacle are that the families of the victims have not received justice, the 2 Burmese guys have basically lost anything they might have had and the real killers have got away with it, all because it was easier to 'blame someone else'- 3

I think you are very naive to think good defence lawyers can outweigh an inevitable outcome. They had to find these 2 guys guilty otherwise they would have had to release them and start bumbling around looking stupid trying to pin it on someone else, all the while knowing who did it.
Its like saying the prosecution in the OJ case might as well not have bothered- 2

With a lot of people losing their jobs here in Thailand due to COVID. Both Thais and foreigners. I am surprised that there is such a demand for schoolteachers as surely a lot of people won't be able to afford the international school fees this coming year
1) Not everyone in Thailand is poor and are on the scrapheap. Those in well paid jobs will not have been affected by covid. Not all jobs for Thais rely on tourism
2) Maybe many school teachers got into new jobs when the schools closed because of covid and have decided to remain in those new jobs -

Filipino teachers are too poor to pay for the insurance, they are too stupid and barely can speak or teach English, etc.
Its laughable.
Or maybe they are just stating facts? Its getting a tad tiresome reading about anything said about non white people in a negative way MUST be racist. Please grow up and stop getting your panties in a twist for nothing

On better torrent sites, the more intelligent and experienced but otherwise average user will come up with the HEVCs first and simply grab those for better quality/filesize/download time.
I gave benefit of doubt to the OP’s friend, but as the OP gave no real info about the files, and nobody here got any from him, it’s of course anyone’s guess.
Coming in late, I then threw out a shotgun approach to “try.” May not work, but it’s fast & easy for a naïve user. Having that codec on his machine could be useful anyway.
Now that I’ve some interest in the issue, if the OP would respond more, I’d drill down. I have some questions and other things to try. Guess he's busy watching another series.????Yup. What have you determined for the specs of his device, BTW? Does it have an SSD?????
OP's TV may be one that can't do it. I have a solution for that.
Overly simplistic. A sample, as with other files, may suggest how much of the device’s capability is being used at the time of accessing the sample with the program then being used to access it. Finding out the true capability of OP's device and then taking full advantage of it when desired is what’s at issue.
Hi Ive been offline so not picked up the responses. To be honest, its easier nailing custard to the ceiling than trying to explain tech stuff to me! Im worse than useless. My friend is 73 and he knows more than me so thats where we are at. I gave it up as a bad job and decided to catch up on S3 at a later date because S4 isnt due out until next year anyway. I will find a way to view S3 in that interim period
Thanks for all who have contributed I do appreciate your help and advice.
The only subject matter I can add is that we both have USB sticks which we swap as his wifi is fixed where mine is from a myfi device, so his signal is stronger and he downloads for me at his place and passes the stick back to me. He uses Pirate Bay for the loads and the torrent we use is uTorrent. We download onto the laptop then use 'drag n drop' to get it onto the stick but on the S3 occasion it didnt work. I did notice later that in the subject line on PB it said MP4 so maybe it was only compatible with that ?
