  1. For what it is worth I am fighting in court to prevent my son going to a Sarasas School near the Airport.

I do not consider a Thai school will give my son any chance of making it up to IB later.

International school curriculum only for me.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is IB?

  2. We bought one of those Thai style electric kettles. It has a 60 degree setting which is the correct temp for baby formula. Bought it in Tesco.

Still use it every day 2 years on! Just set it to boiling and use it for tea.

  3. Storm Damage

    Nong Hoi:

    Power out until 16:40

Many tree branches down on side roads and a big branch in our garden

Roof blown off the swimming pool at Varee SchoolMotorcycle parking area at Asia Technical College destroyed

Has anyone been on the Saraphee Road? I'd be surprised if all those trees stood up to the gusts.

Apparently the one at Varee was!

  4. 2nd largest German airline (after Lufthansa) - established 30 years. I've flown with them years ago London-Berlin, but they've expanded enormously since then.

Nothing in their current timetable for flights to/from CNX - only BKK-Berlin/Munich/Duesseldorf - but it might be added later (next "high" season?). Given the runway limitations at CNX, I doubt Europe-bound flights could use it direct. If the Germany-CNX link does happen, might well be a feed from their BKK flights? Shame if that's all it is..........

Didnt they land an Airbus A380 at Chiang Mai in 2007??

  5. Quote ...When my 1 year was up and I changed it to the 5 year I did not have to do the test again. You license has to be near to expiration before they will give you the new one.

Just been to try and get a 5 year license as mine expires tomorrow. The woman explained that your 1 year license must have expired before a 5 year one will be issued. She said come back Tuesday (closed Monday). I asked if there was a 'grace' period as my license expires tomorrow, she said no, drive very very carefully!!!

  6. It is time to renew my Thai driving license.

I understand that I require either a residency letter from my Consul or a statement from Chiang Mai Immigration. The difference being cost.

Can anyone tell me if Immigration will issue a statement if I am on a 'Non Immigrat "O"' type visa? Obviously I have no dealings with Chiang Mai Immigration on this type of visa.

    Thanks for any help

  7. I have enjoyed the Fish n Chips from the place not serving free water over the last 8 years!

Just asked the Mrs, she prefers the Sizzlers Fish n Chips. I must admit if we eat there, and I havent brought my own mustard for the burgers or steak, then it is the Fish n Chips for me.

  8. The rules they play are...

*ball in hand after a foul (1 shot)

*call shots (play passes to the opponent in the case of a fluke, or loss of game on the black)

    * at least one ball must hit a cushion if a ball is not potted.

*jump shots are allowed, but only from above.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

I'm sure the rules will be explained on the night.

    cheers.

P.S. Dotcom, it's not my venture, just promoting it for a friend.

how would you play a jump shot if not from above? Are the tables insured against cloth tears or is the punter responsible?

  9. The most important thing can be where you are applying FROM.

We went to Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Austria on a road trip last year. The Mrs needed a Schengen visa, and as we are in Chiang Mai, the only one of those countries issuing Schengen visas in Chiang Mai was the German consulate, so we went with them to avoid having to go to Bangkok for the application.

Travel insuance is required, and the consulate will list acceptable insurers on their website. This was easy to obtain in CM as the insurers are used to the requirement.

  10. Dont really want to get drawn into this, but under what rules are you going to play your 8 ball?

I have encountered Thai and British rules here in CM, and since the opening of your bar and reading your threads have encountered US rules, usually described as 'International Rules'.

  11. Being British, and obviously not interested in US politics, can I put a British slant on this thread?

I am assuming that this inaugration takes place on West Coast US time, so CM plus 12 hours? Is it an evening do in the US?

Does this imply an all night piss in Chiang Mai? That could be of far more interest!
