  1. Thinking of doing this trip myself..........Getting into Malaysia is very easy. I haven't tried getting into Singapore yet......so let us know how you get on.......

If you need to you can get the number plates stuck on at the border. Don't get them from the DoLT Thailand.

It isn't that far to Singapore about 900 km

Diesel was about 30% cheaper than in Thailand last year........

Malaysia, not for Singapore. Singapore diesel current priced at SGD1.4/liter. So remember to fully fill up before entering SG.

  2. Yup... I agreed that me and many others here have no slightest clue of what Hi-so mean. Whether it is the family name, up-bringing, influential in the region, etc. Maybe we have mixed up the difference of high profile and Hi-so.

I wonder who is fashionable, influential or what you have describe doesn't have loads of money in that category.

The thread title stated as such - we typed along. In this case, we are talking about this particular girl Hi-so status. As your knowledge in this topic, do you evaluate the possibilities of this girl's Hi-so status? I guess you would say that the OP did not give enough information for evaluation. So, same for us. Money is taken as the criterion for this particular case.

If you are referring to the post I have made earlier about 108 million wedding, please advise your view as is the groom considered high profile or Hi-so?

You obviously did not read all the replies to the post (nor even read beyond the OP) ....which is understandable (over 186 posts)...BUT I did comment on the OP's refering to his new daughter in law to be as being Hi so.

Yup... my bad... post number #3 and #6 you did ask a question about sin sot and 2 million baht doesn't seem Hi-so to you. Got it.

    Thanks.

Reading back, I still feel funny that "beach" is one of the first in this thread to take money as a measurement for this girl's Hi-so status but instead say we are a joke to do that. Making claim that money is NOT the requirement for Hi-so. He didn't really answer any of my questions too.

  3. Thank you ubonjoe! Since I'm a Singaporean and stay most of my time in northern LOS, going to Laos is equally as costly as going home(thanks to the budget flight). Currently I have been visiting LOS at least once every 2 months for the pass 1 and half year and planning to switch to staying in LOS and visiting SG once every 2 months. Getting a single entry from Laos(60 days) and a 30 days extension(which I dont need) is tiring process. If I can get away with this kind of "soft" back to back, that will be perfect!

  4. Please elaborate... Do you mean that people insisting to marry for 2 million sin sot can be HI-SO too?

Can a low income family be of the HI-SO category too? If load of money is not the first condition to be regards as HI-SO, then is there other requirements?

Can Mr. Chalermchai Kositpipat the famous builder of Wat Rong Khun considered as HI-SO?

Old money or new money makes for class or crass but in the end money is still money. Great Gatsby was on Thai TV last night. Hi class people of all countries understand Great Gatsby. Lo so people have never seen it.

It is like speaking Latin. Hi so people always speak Latin and lo so people don't, of course that's in addition to having money.

So money is still in the equation?

Never mind... let the thread dies. Even the OP is no longer in the discussion and my SO SO status will have nothing to do with Hi-so

  7. Better to look for a job.

It's not that easy for everybody. Even if he can find a job, is he willing to make a 15k salary package and still fall in love with Thailand?

Agreed with you Austin, 15k baht is way to low to survive! Of course I gotta look for better pay.

The competition is strong for foreigner vacancy.

Come on edw... there are ways to do it. Making a comfortable amount (but not luxurious) to stay in Thai is possible. Just that going by setting up company and apply work permit is the wrong foot to start. Visa runs are unavoidable unless you take up Thai Elite. But then if you can afford a TE comfortably then a small business is not appealing to you.

  8. Back to the main topic

Edw, as long that you are trying to open a small shop, being a foreigner is a disadvantage.

    1) most thai small business don't register thus no tax

    2) cap is 2 million baht which is about RM200k. You could open a coffee shop in area like muar or nilai (I don't know which part of Malaysia you are in) and make more money.

    3) Your business is subject to tax and so are you (work permit).

Let's say you have a modest small business making 120k baht in sales a month. After rental/utilities, 4 employees and product cost, you left about 35k nett profit. After annual tax and personal income tax, you are looking at 20k baht. It is not comfortable with this money in neither bbk or phuket.

  9. Don't know about Thai cars, but for a Malaysia registered vehicle you will need to have the vehicle log card to purchase the "AutoPass" card. That card is needed to top up with cash and raise the barrier once your passport is stamped. If you have insufficient funds or faulty card, you will be asked to go in the office and pay the fees.

In Malaysia, you will need the "Touch & Go" card for the highway. If you calculate the cost and time, it is really not worth the trouble.

  10. After reading these posts, I personally envy the TE holders. I have the 500k but I'm yet to afford to be 500k poorer at this point. The value of 500k is different for individuals. I have yet to afford it but I hope I can apply for it in 3 years time.

*finger cross - provided the price is still 500k in 2018.
